"Whoa. Guys, look at these." Rhianna slowly lifted the lid of an old wooden box. The group turned and gazed at the box. Rhianna lifted a very old looking book. It's binding was falling apart and its pages yellowed. Calley took it out of her hands and flipped through the pages.

"Hey, Mrs. Hammontree, where did these books come from?" Calley asked, still flipping the pages. Rhianna took another out of the mahogany box. This one had a black leather cover and back unlike Calley's brown one.

"I don't know, " she replied, "They were here when I started working here. That was...oh I don't know. A while ago."

"There's this strange writing in them. I can't read it," Calley said while squinting at the picture on the front page. It depicted a forest but not a forest of trees but of mushrooms. Under the picture was a symbol. It was shaped like a rose.

"I know. I tried to read them when I found them, but I can't," Mrs. Hammontree said.

"Found something!" The two of them turned towards Rhianna who had found a stamp at the bottom of the box. The stamp had the same symbol as the one in Calley's book. Calley walked over to the kneeling Rhianna whose dark brown hair had fallen into her eyes. Calley opened the book and took the stamp from Rhianna's hand.

"Maybe these two fit," she said while pressing the stamp to the sybol. A red light flooded from the bottom of the stamp and the picture in the book started to move. It swept across the forest to show a small village in the middle. Then, it moved to a massive tree that had windows covering its foliage.

Calley dropped the book and gasped, "It moved!"

The picture continued to move and show the same series of images. The forest, the village, then the tree. Rhianna opened her book and a picture was moving on her front page. This time, the picture was of the school library.

"What in the hell..." Rhianna dropped her book to the floor and ran to join Calley on the other side of the cramped store room. The three of them heard a knock at the door.

"Hey, can I come in? I've got some new books to be checked in."

"It's Chris, let him in," Mrs. Hammontree said. Rhianna opened the door and yanked him in.

"Look! What are these books?"

Chris eyed the moving pictures and smiled, "These are freakin' awesome! How did you find them?"

"You know what they are?" Rhianna asked while glaring at Chris. Calley and Mrs. Hammontree stood watching.

"Of course not. I've only heard rumors. Although, we all know I love history, and in the books I have there's this story that keeps popping up of a family that had created books. There was something about the books that made them very valuable. In the story, it says that these books were able to transport a person to a new world," Chris explained while sitting up.

"So?! What does that have to do with these?" Rhianna glared at them.

"Why are you freaking out? They're harmless..I hope, " Chris said as he picked a book up. The picture of the forest continued to move.

"Wanna try them to see if they work?"
"So, I was thinking, I've always wanted to ride a TaunTaun."
"Ummmm....I asked you answer the math problem on the board."
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did."
"Yeah well, that's your opinion."...............A conversation between my teacher and I.

Hey there. I'm not going to talk about trivial comments here. Instead, I'll view this piece on the whole.

1)Where is this taking place?

Where is this scenario taking place? There is hardly any description in this piece to help us picture where this is taking place. Is it up in the attic somewhere? Is it in some secret room? This would also make it feasible for the audience to believe that this is some sort of secret book that has to be hidden away somewhere discreet to avoid it falling in the wrong hands. The attic would be a good place for this.

2)How exactly did they find this book?

This follows closely with my above point. This is a secret book no? So how exactly did they managed to know the whereabouts of it? Show to us this. I am not entirely convinced that some meddling kids would be able to find something like that book so easily.

3)Who exactly are these kids?

Characterize them more. Who exactly are they? Are they magic students? Are they rebels? Show to us as to who they are. Make them seem like actual people. What did each of them felt when they found the book? What were they thinking? All you have right now is them talking about the book at hand. There's very little to search for from just stating what they observe.

And why would they need to try the book? Why do they need to find this book? Elaborate.

Good luck.

Andy.
