We've currently got three authorities, two uppers and six guns. Which leave the uppers a bit outnumbered, but nevermind. Seeing as I've currently only got one character, an authority, I'll produce another with allegiance to the uppers to help balance things out a bit:

Name: Ande Nighteen
Gender: Male
Generation: 4th
Age: 123
Appearance: Ande is a naturist, a rare sight on a spaceship, and as such has refused all but the most necessary medical and surgical treatments. He is as healthy as most other eighty year olds of his time, but his appearance has aged almost as fast as he would without healthcare. By today's standards, most would guess he was in his fifties or sixties.
Personality: Ande tends to dislike others, particularly those who have had robotic replacements. He hates technology, and believes that Humankind should have stayed on Earth and died with it. Now that the Human race is in deep space, however, Ande accepts that they may as well attempt to survive. He is obsessed with his health.
History: Ande was brought up to be a biologist by his father, though his mother was an artist. His mother showed him ancient pictures from Earth, handed down through the generations. When he grew up he tended to the artificial gardens on the ship, but he was saddened by the lack of a natural sky in the gardens - the closest thing to the blue sky of day on Earth being the continuous night of outer space. When the deaths began, he consulted his parents on the matter, his father telling him that it was most likely a disease. His mother became one of the first victims of the deaths, and his father committed suicide. Though filled with grief, Ande became determined to live so that he, or a future generation, might live in a natural world once again. That was when he entered the upper sector, the namesake of the Upper faction.
Allegiance: Upper
Other: Up for love, though your character would have to have very strange tastes.

Hey Selene, can I claim Jamie for my character?
I came into this world wrinkled and ugly. And no matter how much I accumulate here, it's a short journey. I will go out of this world wrinkled and ugly. So I enjoy life.

Name: Ben Dascomb

Gender: Male

Generation: 5th

Age: 22

Appearance: http://joecool42.deviantart.com/art/Ste ... -106160127 - Without the weird stubbly stuff.

Personality: He's paranoid and does his best to keep himself away from as many people as possible, thinking that just about everyone is contaminated.

History: He started training as a medic shortly before the virus hit, but when both his parents died as a result of what he believes to be a virus, he immediately retreated to the upper levels of the spacecraft with the rest of the Uppers, before he sealed himself in his room. He ventures out for supplies from time to time, but mostly keeps to himself. He always keeps his medic's gauntlet with him - it tells him if anyone is injured or suffering from a known condition. It doesn't identify what he thinks is the mystery virus, though.

Allegiance: Uppers

Other: Up for love.

***

Name: Seth Wilkerson

Gender: Male

Generation: 3rd

Age: 75

Appearance: Tall and lanky, looking about 30 and almost always decked out in his uniform. His uniform consists of grey military fatigues and a flak jacket with combat webbing, although that usually stores little more than a packet of cigarettes, some caffeine pills and a little spare ammo. He carries a pistol at all times, almost exclusively set to stun. He has short black hair and grey-blue eyes.

Personality: He's dedicated to his job, as his parents raised him to be, and acts according to the orders of his superiors. When off-duty, which isn't as often after the virus hit, he can be friendly to those he hasn't had much cause to deal with before, but to repeat offenders it can be difficult to distinguish between Seth's two different sides.

History: Like his father before him, Seth was raised as one of the few police officers on board the ship, and always took his job very seriously. He didn't truly come to understand the importance until the passengers and crew broke apart into factions after the deaths began.

Allegiance: Authority, police.

Name: Kerry Hill
Gender: Male
Generation: 5th
Age: 80
Appearance: http://www.gameater.com/wp-content/uplo ... _snake.jpg (without the camo)
Allegiance: Loner
History: Kerry was born sometime around the time the death's started, and his family split up and his father became a gun, his mother an upper. Kerry lived for a while with his father, but couldn't take the paronia. Kerry ran off, and now spends most of his days trying to keep the peace, being a messenger, along with running odd jobs for doctors. Kerry believes that the death's are caused by a virus. Kerry is a crack shot with all weapons, and is a master at stealth warfare. Kerry weakness is his softness and willingness to trust.
He would never actually put a weapon on kill mode, and if he needs to fight, almost always uses unarmed combat. Kerry is one of the most knowledgeable people concerning the ship, and knows all the shortcuts, and passageways.

Other: Up for love.

*Hey Face Engine, mind if I claim the Captain for my female character, Yumi?*
Writing once a day keeps the voices away, and I've created a blog all about it: Daily Dose.
...and I'm now trying to create a user group based on the idea! Tell me if you're interested!

Ohh! I will!
I've never done a storybook before. I hope I do this right.

"Christ!" murmured Kerry, a saying he picked up from some 1st generation's, but had no idea what meant.
"That's the third death these past two weeks". Kerry was walking down an old service hall, looking at his TeleScreen, which had just sent him information on another death. Kerry was just returning from a meeting with one of the Guns leaders. This past meeting was decidedly less then pleasant. The paroina of the guns was affecting even him.
"I've lived my first 15 years with them, have a father there, and tried to help mediate with them so many times, but they still act like I'm there to arrest them." Kerry had developed the odd characteristic of talking to himself. It helped get his head in place. Kerry reached the end of the corridor, and knocked 3 times at the seemingly normal wall to the right. The door slid open and Kerry went in to his room.
"It's getting worse and worse"..
Right as he was about to sit down, the call to meeting alarm sounded.
Speakers all over the ship blared "Please, all summon to the main boulevard. There are several important announcements to make."

I'm leaving it here for someone else to tell us what it is, and whether or not they go.

[Me too, lukas. *worries*]

"Please, all summon to the main boulevard. There are several important announcements to make."
When the announcement sounded, Cael almost fell from his ladder in the canteen. He was repairing one of the speakers on the ceiling, and evidently had been successful. Cursing, he carefully descended and gathered up his tool bag.

He dropped it off in his apartment. It was not very spacious-the really nice rooms used to be reserved for the ship captains and other high-ranking Authorities but were now part of the Upper territory. Still, Cael was just glad for a space to call his own.

On his way to the main boulevard, he saw and nodded to Seth Wilkerson.
"Going to the meeting?" Seth asked.
"Yeah, on my way," Cael replied.

When he got to the meeting, Jamis Evon Junior was preparing to make his announcement.

Great start!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jamis ascended the stairs on to the central platform. Standing there in the main boulevard, his father used to comment on how it reminded him of Earth - its size and layout gave a sense of scale almost comparable to that of environments found only on natural planets. It was for this reason that Jamis' father had a simulated sky on the ceiling, with clouds, sun and moon, and the walls were made to look like rows of skyscrapers. Jamis observed the crowd around him-most of the ship's population had assembled in the boulevard. As if the responsibility of guiding humanity through space wasn't bad enough, for the next few minutes Jamis would have to worry about the slight possibility of a disaster taking place inside the boulevard, risking the lives of every remaining human.

Of course, Jamis was fully aware that many remained elsewhere. He had little doubt that most of the Uppers were still locked away in the Upper Sector, fearing that the mass congregation would result in the spread of disease. A risk Jamis was willing to take. And a number of Guns probably predicted that whoever was killing everyone would use the meeting as an opportunity to take the whole ship out in one go.

Jamis sometimes wondered if it was his laid back attitude which had resulted in the competition for power. He wondered what his father would have done. He would probably have "liberated" the Upper Sector by force, and declared the Guns outlaws. Jamis considered doing this himself, but decided against it.

"Not my style..."

The bumbling crowd below him fell silent. Jamis realised he had accidentally talked into the microphones.

"Ah," Jamis stammered, thinking about how to turn his private comment into the beginning of his speech, "it's not my style...to allow the ship, the last remnant of Humanity, fall into chaos."

"Nice work," the bodyguard next to him muttered. Jamis turned to him and winked, before turning back to the mic.

"But that is where we are headed, it seems," he continued, "with every passing day the death toll grows, and with every passing day the authorities lose power over the ship and lose respect from the people. To our knowledge, there are two factions which oppose the power of my colleagues and I. Those who have claimed the Upper Sector, who have refused to allow even police into their territory, and the so-called Guns, who threaten safety and order by carrying dangerous weapons where ever they go."

Jamis paused, making eye contact with a few random members of the audience. Some smiled, some fake-smiled. Others scowled.

"I am a tolerant man. I have allowed the Uppers to rule the Upper Sector seperately. I have allowed the Guns to carry their namesake for self-defence. But it has come to my attention that they have been committing unacceptable crimes recently. Five days ago, at least seven Uppers and five Guns, possibly more, engaged in a brutal fight, two blocks away from the reactor. All twelve of them died."

The crowd murmured, a surprisingly loud noise. This was not the first time violent fights had taken place between the major factions, but usually there were only one or two deaths, and perhaps thrice as many participants.

"Police investigations suggest that there was a third party involved. Regardless of who was involved, and why they were involved, this is an unacceptable crime. Particularly seeing as it was so close to the reactor. Without it, we would be without energy in a matter of weeks, and then we would be dead. Not to mention what that much plutonium could do to the ship if..."

Jamis realised he had started ranting, and decided to get to the point before he let out too much information - he may have done so already.

"If you have any information regarding this matter, it would be appreciated if you shared what you know with an authority figure. Furthermore, I will be stepping up security throughout the ship. Until the the hostilities, and the deaths stop. On a final note, I regret to say that we still have not determined the cause of the deaths. Thank you for your time."

"More crap", thought Kerry, as he shuffled out the with the rest of the crowd. He scanned the faces. He only saw some guns, none of the Uppers would be brave enough to come, what with the disease. Even though he believed in the disease, it really couldn't be a massive problem at this point. More death's had been caused by the fighting then by the disease. The real problem would be if the disease evolved into a more infectious variety. Kerry suddenly remembered to report to Jamis and walked towards the announcement platform. "Hello Jamis." said Kerry.
"Hello, Kerry." Jamis responded. "How are the guns doing"? "Fine" Kerry responded. "The guns seem to be more paranoid. Their leaders want to express their extreme sorriness about the incidents. They said that it was a bunch of youth's that were out of their command.. He said that all of their survivors are going to life in prison."
"That's funny.. we found some adult bodies. Could you check if they're backing up what they say?" Jamis asked.
"No. Even though they trust me, they know that I work for you. They wouldn't divulge that information to me.". Kerry said.
"Goodbye." Jamis said.
"Goodbye"..
Kerry walked back home, even more worried then before.

Seth Wilkerson

More worrying news from the captain, just as Seth had expected. And right next to the reactor, too! Christ, I might not know much about that thing, but I've heard enough from the first-gens to know that they shouldn't be getting near that thing.

He nodded to Cael as they began making their way back to their respective posts, "What d'you think of that? I mean, you're a mechanic, you'd know better than anyone what would've happened if things had gone too badly there."

Cael nodded grimly, "Yeah. Do you know anything about all this, though?"

Seth shrugged, "No more that the captain told us, I've only got access to police files. But we're working on finding out what's behind the killings, and this could help. I mean, twelve people don't just die like that. No all of them even had wounds!"

Ben Dascomb

He hit the on button on the wall-mounted shipcom unit, the viewing screen blurring a little before showing him a picture of the captain, announcing the deaths of a group of Uppers and Guns.

He turned around and checked the supplies he was keeping in his room. It was big, there was plenty of room for more in the former cabin of the head of security, but Ben wasn't sure he wanted to go out. Then again, if the virus was getting more contagious, perhaps it would be a good idea to stock up now.

Growling his hatred at his own good logic, Ben strapped on his gauntlet and locked the door behind him, checking both ways to make sure no one was nearby before starting towards the Upper's storage rooms.
