In the 27th century, an anomaly causes the moon to gradually set itself on a collision course with Earth, destroying all life on Earth. Predicting this catastrophe, Humankind prepares itself to leave the Earth in a genesis ark, a city sized spacecraft capable of holding life forever, to look for a new home. Only the most deserving and useful were brought on board, however.
The exodus, as it became known, went well for two centuries-since then, most of the first generation have died out, though a few still remain (Human lifespans increased dramatically in the third millenium), along with many of the second and third generations. Reproduction has been heavily regulated-the population of the genesis ark has never been more than three thousand. As such, there have only been five generations so far, though the age differences within each of those generations can be anything up to one hundred years.
However, on the 217th year of the Exodus, people have started dying for no apparent reason. Numbers of deaths were low at first, but they have been increasing. At the current death rate, the genesis ark will be devoid of life long before it reaches its first potential new home.
Panicking, many passengers have come up with a number of theories about the deaths. One group blame the deaths on an undetectable virus, and have locked themselves away from the rest of the ship, rationing their supplies and stealing food from the rest of the ship when their stock runs low. Another group believes that someone is attempting to end the Human race by murdering the passengers, one by one. They have grown suspicious of every one, and carry weapons where ever they go.
These two factions, known respectively as Uppers (after the area of the ship they have taken over) and Guns (after their tendency to carry weapons around where ever they go) make up the majority of the ship's population, with only the few police aboard the ship keeping them from turning the last hope of Humanity into a battleground. It is only a matter of time, however, before they break the rules.
And the mysterious deaths are becoming more and more frequent...
No more than two characters each please, keep this sensible! No magic is allowed here. You can be creative when thinking about future technologies which your character might possess, but try not to go over the top-think, is it feasible? If so, why would the character possess this technology?
Most importantly, keep this PG-13!
Name: try to choose something similar to a modern day name, but warped slightly due to the changing times.
Gender: obvious
Generation: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th. Remember that only the 1st generation were born on Earth-the rest have spent their entire lives on the ship.
Age: Maximum age is 300. If you are first generation you must be at least 217 years old.
Appearance: Provide a picture if you wish, or use your awesome descriptive skills to conjure the exact same image in everyone's head to that in your head. Or, if you're like me, you can give a vague description and let the others use their vast imagination to best effect.
Personality: muckle
History: What has your character been doing up until the deaths? If s/he is first generation, what did they do before the exodus, and how were they worthy of being accepted onto the ship?
Allegiance: Upper, Gun, Authorities (usually a member of the ship's crew) or Other (if Other please state and explain)
Other: Anything else of interest
So, to start off, my character, the ship's Captain:
Name: Jamis Evon Junior
Gender: Male
Generation: 2nd
Age: 93 years old.
Appearance: Has the appearance of a thirty year old man with long(ish) blonde hair, blue eyes and fair, slightly freckly skin. His hands and head are nearly as much machine as they are organic, with special sockets implanted so that he can perform the countless tasks a space captain of the late third millenium has to perform. Apart from that, he has insisted on keeping a natural appearance, though he has undergone several surgical operations to keep his youthful appearance, like most people of his age and over.
Personality: Friendly and well-wishing, many wonder if he is perhaps too kind and carefree to be the ship's highest authority. He does show a serious side at times, however, and has been known to be merciless to those who would be hostile towards him. Since becoming captain, he has taken his job very seriously, rapidly drifting away from his old friends. He tends to think in terms of "what is right" rather than "what can be done".
History: Jamis, the son of Captain Jamis Senior, was raised from birth to be his father's successor as Captain, and highest authority, of the genesis ark. As such, he was well prepared to lead the ship in the search for a new home twenty three years ago, when Jamis Senior died of a stroke. Since then, he has received mixed criticisms from the passengers and crew of his ship-some admire his friendly nature, while others think he is too carefree to be leading the remainders of Humanity.
With the rising number of deaths, Jamis has made it the ship's crew's priority to discover the cause of the deaths, and then to prevent the deaths from continuing. He is also looking for a successor for the post of Captain.
Allegiance: Authority (he is the authority!)
Other: up for love, his cybernetic implants in his hands give him a powerful punch, though some particularly strong Humans can throw much stronger punches. As Captain, he has access to the ship's armoury, and rarely goes anywhere without a pistol.
