Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder
because it is one of those books that honestly does change your life. A lot of books get hype for 'changing your life' when they really do nothing, but this is one of the few that actually does change your life. Or at least changes your perspective on life. I also love it for introducing me to so many great philosophers, many of which I now adore
So basically, it's a great book xD

A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink

The second one made me jump up and down in delight. The "smart" jobs are all being transfered to foreigners who can do it more cheaply, and computers are doing a lot, too, so the right-brainers are going to be more important now. YAY!

Hands down the best.

I won't list them all, but I read a bunch of Robin McKinley's books this year, and I absolutely love them.

Only read about half so far, but Ovid's Metamorphoses! Started for a class, and I left it up at school, so I have something to read when I go back, at least!

Penguin Anthology of WW1 poetry

Utopia, Sir Thomas Moore.

A bunch of John Donne's poetry (because yes, it totally counts)

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay - Michael Chabon. Just brilliant.

Fire From Heaven - Mary Renault

A Song of Ice and Fire Series - George R. R. Martin - Read the first and thought it was outstanding, so quickly bought the rest over the summer and smashed through them. Fairly disappointed with the fourth book, however, so my interest slowed. But overall a great fantasy series.

The Sirens of Titan - Kurt Vonnegut

Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair - Pablo Neruda. Some gorgeous poetry.

The Yiddish Policemen's Union - Michael Chabon. Amazing book. Can't wait for the film adaptation.

Coraline - Neil Gaiman - they were both brilliant. And the movie is coming soon!

Gardens of the Moon and the whole series of the Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen == long series, but probably the best fantasy series of all time.

The Name of the Wind --can't remember the author's name XD and I leant it to a friend so I can't check up on it.

Watchmen - Alan Moore. Awesomeness. (can't wait for the movie)

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Alan Moore. Great stuff.
