Playing with Light

Here are a few pictures I took of inanimate objects found at home. What do you think of it?

Also, can you give me tips on getting good pictures of humans (lighting and poses and stuff)

It's actually my jump rope:)

Light from my room. I know it's slightly tilted but my hands started to hurt after a while because I had to hold them up high to get a nice shot.

The first is a little creepy.. what is it? But you may want to crop it down so it's just the paper and the ... object. The background kind of takes away from the effectiveness.

The second, is interesting. Maybe do a close up on the rings? Or zoom away and have more of it filling the space, because it's not very balanced... just a thought.
The lighting is brighter for the ringed bit and darker for the other, so maybe step back and use zoom rather than macro (did you use macro?) because the camera is focused more on the rings than the other end, and it's unbalanced lighting.

The third: try to centre it because the top is just brushing the very edge of the image, with plenty of blankness around it. So bring the light down in the image and have more of the space across the top to have the light in the centre.

As for the lighting, maybe fiddle with editing and have background darker so the risen-post thing at the top of the light is less noticeable. It holds the cables or something right? Well, it detracts from the image, maybe there's another light without that sort of distraction?

These are nice pictures.

1st- I suggest you zoom out a little bit. Are those sizzors (Can't spell v_V)? It would be kinda cool if the light focuses on the blades and slowly around them it gets dimmer the farther away.

2nd- Just as Niccy said focus on the rings they look cool!

3rd- Make the light the center of the picture. So it looks like it is in a ring of light.

These aren't too bad. I like the idea behind them a lot.

1. The concept of this picture is great, but the fact that you have it zoomed in so far makes it hard to tell what the picture is, and thus makes the message you're trying to get across harder to focus on. You're spending more time of trying to figure out what the picture is. If you zoom out just a tad, it would make it a whole lot better.

2. The rings are amazingly cool, but there is too much dead space around them. Crop the picture so that your main focus is the rings themselves, not all the dead space around them. And this is just my suggestion, but why not throw in a different colored ring? To make the picture more interesting. But that's just a suggestion and the picture is fine without it.

3. For this one, I'm going to pretty much be echoing Niccy and Maki. Crop the picture so that the light is the center of the picture and not brushing the top of the frame. It will cut out a lot of the dead space as well if you do this.

Overall, these are pretty good pictures with a great idea behind them. I really like the first one.

I really like the first and second one. The first is a pair of scissors cutting a piece of wrapping paper. Am I right? Heheh lol

I agree with Maki-Chan that you should zoom out a tad, they would look great.

The second is really interesting, and I like the loops xD

Overall, they were good. I'm no photographic genius, and I'm certainly not good at photgraphy. I really like your way of thinking, it's interesting to photograph these objects. Not many would think to do so. Creative

Very interesting. I love the first one, I can honestly say that is something I have not seen before. The shadow play on the paper and scissors really makes it pop, and having them cutting through the paper is ingenious. Not to mention the end of the blade is dirty. a very awesome effect.

The second one doesn't strike me as much. The shadow isn't very strong and there is a lot of open space. Not to mention the color of the rope doesn't go well with the background. It might have worked better if the background was darker, having a bright green rope on a dark background would help the subject pop. I do like the rings though, and that they are cut off on the sides so you can't tell where it starts and where it ends.

The third one reminds of flowers a bit. And it is funny that the two are moving away from the light source which is usually not the case since flowers move towards the sun. The organic shape of a non organic object and then the heavy play on light and shadow make it well received I think. I quite like it.

All of your pictures are well thought out, I like your subject matter and always experiment with it. Photography has a lot of unexplored possibilities.

Wow! The first one is brilliant! I love it! My sister thinks that if you had some blood on the scissors it would be good. (Pay no attention to her morbid thoughts I personally think it's great as it is).

The second is cool! I had no idea it was a jumprope, but the green is like... so pretty .

The last is neat! I like it alot . The angle was kind of off, but it was still decent. Maybe if you darkened the surrounding area then it would make the light stand out a bit more. Good job on all of them though

Those are very random but in a good way. It's sorta abstract and I love abstract random things haha.

First shot: I love this photo. It is very good!!

Second shot: I like this one but it needs a better background. Maybe just a theory here since it is a jump rope what if you set it on pavement or the road or something creative like that.

Third shot: I like this photo. I like how the light shines upon the picture.

I really like the one with scissors.
I don't know if it's because I have a secret obsession with them, or that fact that the picture itself is clear and detailed. I like the lighting also. I don't know, something about that picture screams "more than just some scissors". And I like that the scissors aren't all emo either. You've given them new light.
