Never can seem to finish ):

It always seems like every story I start I just don't finish. Be it I'm uninterested, I'm stuck, or I just really can't stand the story anymore.

This has been a problem for me for quite some time now, at least a year or two

Does anyone have any suggestions as to break this habit?

I have the same problem. Try your best to keep motivated, post your stuff online and get people's opinions. You can get a lot of motivation from just a couple of good reviews ^_^ I'd be happy to review your stuff to keep you motivated, and you can help me out too.

Another thing to try is to either (Only if it works for you )
1. work on a lot of different stories at once so you can never get sick of just doing one at a time
2. Dedicate your entire time to one (Like me ^_^)
3. you can make a schedule. Decide when you should write and when you should just relax and have fun ^_^
4. or.... you can make a ground effort. Have someone write with you so you can each help each other out. (Just make sure that this person will actually put effort into it!)

Why not try writing back to front? Or write the beginning and ending first and then the middle? You don't have to write the story in the order it will be read; you can always edit or chop and change later.

I've faced this countless times as well, but the farthest I've ever gotten through a novel is about one chapter from the end. I'm very proud of myself. xD And it's all because of NaNoWriMo.

What NaNo does is force you to write your novel in a short amount of time. So try to force words out of you despite how much you hate it. I'm in that situation right now, but even writing a paragraph at a time is getting me closer to the end. Whenever you're on the computer or in front of your writing, force the words out of you. Just one paragraph is better than nothing! =D

Working on multiple projects can help you as well. You'll feel refreshed when you return to the other project and not terribly worn down.

Whatever works for you. ^_^ Just find a system that helps you finish the project. Once it's finished, you'll be so utterly proud of yourself, and you would have earned the right to never look at it again... for a while, anyway. xD

It isn't pleasant, but when it really comes down to it, the only way to combat this when it gets really ingrained is to force yourself to write. Really. Just sit down and write, even if you don't want to. Eventually, something will loosen up and you'll want to be doing it again, or you'll hit inspiration, or something.

Having multiple stories helps sometimes, as it gives you something to work on when you don't want to work on your main project, but it can also lead to never getting anything done. If you have five stories, it's easy to keep jumping around and leaving others hanging until you finally drop all of them in disgust and frustration. Believe me, I've been there.

So, the only good advice I can give you is to keep at it. Keep writing, even when you don't really feel like it or when you feel like you've hit a block. Just keep swimming!

JabberHut: This actually is my first NaNo Novel, but I didn't really get very far because I'd started one and got so bored with it that I started this one. NaNoWriMo is so amazing though!
