I flew directly above the running hyenas. They were following me. I'd already tried to lead them off course, but that didn't work out too well--I momentarily became a rock.
Riding the thermals, I barely had to flap and, when I forgot about the evil people following me, I enjoyed the flight. In the city, it was so noisy and I couldn't hear anything. Now, in the wilderness, I found that birds of prey could hear better as well as see better.
Feeling a slight buzz, I flapped and picked up my speed. They were relentless.

Trent smiled as he heard the stream when they got closer. He walked right into it dunking his head. He made sure he was down stream of where anyone woudl be drinking. He shifted and ambled down the stream a little more where he could find some fish or something. He rolled around in the water, then snatched a fish and walked back to the shore. He sniffed, there was another bear near. He finished the fish then went back to the others shifting.
"We might want to move. There's a momma bear down the stream with her cubs, and they get pretty mean." He said smiling and shaking his wet hair. He felt better.
"So we just keep heading south. No big deal," said Ballow.
"Yeah, but they're in the way. I don't know about you but I really don't want to fight a bear with cubs. They tend to kill and ask questions later," said Trent.
"Yeah, but so do those hyenas," said Jason. Great, we're stuck.
***It's hte mamma they should be worried about, not the cubs.***
Trent smield. "THat's a thought."
"What?"
"What would happen if the heynas had a run in with momma?" He smiled. "WE can avoid her, but sense the wind is going south, momma will know about the heyenas, but they won't know about her. Trust me, bears get nasty when they protect their young. I'm sure she could take out that whole pack, if they were smart the second they saw her they'd high tail it. Give us some time."
"That's gonna be a little more fun. You see momma bears don't like anything around their cubs, even other bears, so I figured maybe I could distract her while you guys slip by sense your faster then me, then I"ll just slip off easy as anything after your past, she'll stick where she was, and we'll be good." He smiled as he stood up. "See the threat she'll see in me would be me eating her babies."
"What?"
"The male bears will eat the cubs, but normally odn't try sense momma isn't fun to mess with. THat's why daddy's never around after the kids are made." Trent smiled.
He looked sideways at Carmen, grinning, "Well, Trent knows what he's doing. So all we've got to do is give them a wide berth. The hyenas might notice that our scent turns a bit, but they'll think we're just deviating for a bit, and they'll probably stay on the same path." He cracked his knuckles, starting to stretch a little, "And then they'll come face to face with the bears."
It brought a smile to his face imagining the looks on the hunters' faces when they found out they'd been tricked. Especially since they'd hurt Carmen.
Jason tried to smooth his hair down, but to no avail. Sleeping in a tree hadn't worked out so well for him, he was starting to think he should have shifted before doing so. And he was amazingly tired, since he had no chance of grabbing his morning coffee. He pressed his fingers against his eyes and rubbed them a bit, "Does anyone know if there's a town nearby?" He hadn't forgotten any of the many threats around them, but coffee wasn't something he liked to go without.

Personality: well…think Hammie except evil. And he can pull this off because of his hot British accent.
History: He grew up with the scientists and never felt what they were doing was wrong. Then he found a gun. He found his calling was to shoot people and, maybe in his spare time, take over the world
Other:
~kind of a comic relief, but he can be serious every once in a while
~I don’t know what would happen if he fell in love…but I’m for it…*gulp*

"I can find out," I said, finally being able to do something and shifted. I flew up high and looked for any towns, but the closest town looked really far. I came back down and shifted again.
"I'm sorry Jason, there's only one town and that is really far."
"What do you need to go to a town for?" Carmen asked him
"Um... coffee." He frowned at the 'Are you serious?' looks. "I'm sorry. I need the boost in the mornings."
"You do know that going into town would not only endanger us but a lot of innocents," Shade said. "Coffee is something we'll all have to learn to do without."
"You guys better be ready to shift and go. I'm going to distract the mama bear," said Trent before he shifted into a bear. I shifted and flew across with Ballow. The hard part was having the others be able to get across.
I was excited to cross the rivier, though. I missed not being able to swim much in New York. I shifted and swam through the current, relishing the feel of the water through my fur. I took a little extra time to get to the other side, because I wasn't sure when the next time I would be able to swim again. I felt more alive in the water.
On the shore, I shook out my fur and shifted back into a human.
Trent slowly walked towards the smell of the mamma bear and her cubs. He waited five minutes before ambling out next to where she was. She noticed him immediatly and got up on her hind feet roaring. She jumped at him and he didn't move fast enough before her claws dug deep into his sides. He backed up a little and ran towards where the group used to be. She followed at a run and he picked up his pace, at this rate he could lead her right to the hienas. He smiled when he didn't see his group, but could hear the hienas. He took off towards where they were until he was fully out of her site and then he doubled back and headed towards where the others were.
He let out a long sigh, then rubbed at his eyes again. He knew how they probably looked, bags under them, partially bloodshot and a little watery. He was almost having trouble staying on his feet.
And then Carmen was shifting as she hurled herself forward into the water, plunging in in her otter form and swimming around playfully before making her way to the other side. The others followed suit, although he and Shade hung back, looking at the water somewhat fearfully as the instincts of their other forms kicked in.
"Oh, come on!" Carmen laughed, "What are you two, fearless jungle cats or a pair of household kittens?" The others cracked up, and Shade seemed to bristle a little. Jason himself was still smarting from the earlier criticism, and suddenly lunged forward, shifting into his ocelot form. He didn’t swim much, and the river was wide, so he knew it would take the ocelot’s power to swim across.
The big cat was clearly uncomfortable as he paddled across, shaking himself vehemently when he reached the other side, Shade right behind him. He shifted back hair plastered against his head. Jason scowled a little, although there was a playful element to it now that he was properly awake. “I don’t do rivers, and I don’t do mornings.”

We were all laughing until I heard the roar. "Trent found the mama bear." There was also an animal type laughing. "And the hyenas are coming."
Everyone got quiet. Shade shifted and looked serious. "We need to go."
"What about Trent?" I asked.
Shade was quiet. "I-I don't know." I knew what he was thinking. He was choosing whether to leave him behind or go and help him. I saw that look in many New Yorkers faces.
"Let's go get him," Ballow said and shifted before anyone could stop him. For once I agreed with him. I shifted too, though I didn't know what two birds were going to do against a pack of hyenas and a mama bear.
