Dialect

I'm writing a novel set in Conneticut, but I live in Michigan, so people have told me some of the slang is wrong. So, for anyone who lives in New England, what dialect do you have? Like is it soda, pop, or sodapop?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I live in New York, but I have family friends living in Connecticut and as far I can tell it's soda.

I live in New York, so New England. Everyone I know says "pop", and the people who say "soda" tend to have families who come from out of state. All New Englanders who have families that have been in the area for a long time that I know say "pop".
