Ballow

Ballow watched as a brgith light surrounded the person and he laughed to himself. Ballow inwardly chose the memory the guy would get back. Maybe something bad . . . and something to make him want more. Yes, that's looks good.

He clicked his eyes back to the ohhers as they stared at the white light once again stunned. Ballow smiled at the man still encompassed by the white light. The memory would hurt when it came back and it would give him a spitting head ache.

But . . . it was going to be like a drug, he would want more. Ballow watched as he writhed in pain as Ballow sent the memory and it entered the guys mind. Ballow held back a laugh and waited to see the guys expression.

*Now, this may not sound clear in the storybook, cause I am very vague at the best on how to put this into words. I will give you a few words and you will have a detailed memory.

I'm not sure if anyone ever got that . . . So I will tell you what you get back and you will have to make a memory out of it. ^^ This goes out to everyone.*

Jason cried out with pain, still staring blankly as he watched the images.

An older man, crying, a glass with amber liquid in one hand, tipped so a slow stream of droplets hit the carpet...father? Jason could see the image grow bigger, as if he was walking towards him, and a hand....his hand? reached out and touched his father's (he was sure that he was his father now) shoulder. His father looked up, a look of drunken terror on his face, and screamed. Jason stumbled back, screaming too, as his father's face was overlaid with another....Rachel.

Jason fell to the ground, clutching his head, moaning under his breath.
"What's he saying?" Someone asked.
The dark haired girl bent down. "Rachel. He's just saying Rachel, over and over." She shook him. "Oi! Snap out of it!" she looked at the others for help. "What did he say his name was?"
"Um...Josh? James? No... it was Jason, I think."
She turned back to the cowering Jason. "Jason, what happened?"

Eventually Jason stopped shivering, and his breathing slowed to a more normal rate. "It... was... images. My father... Rachel." He sat up, staring at the crumpled note in his hand. "I want to know more!"
What had happened? Was his father always a gibbering drunk? Who was Rachel? I must know.
"Can I try?" The girl asked.
Jason glared at her. What if she takes all the memories? He sighed, and decided to let her have it, and passed it over. Nothing happened.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Ballow

Ballow laughed as the memory took Jason. Ahh, the wonderful bliss of watching another get memories back, and also the pain was amusing.

He had to smother a chuckle as a girl tried to do it as well. They would learn notes would only worked once and for the person who touched them first. Yet, it was always fun watching them scramble over the meanings.

Ballow had written this first clue explicitly to confuse them all. And it always did. He remember the note he had placed on the tree and wondered if they would ever figure it out.

"Time to play some craeg. Who's up for it?"

How very simple for those who knew what craeg was, but probably no one did. As always Ballow would then appear again and help them a touch. And then they would get it and run off to the next note.

Ballow waited patiently in the tree, for them to react to the note.

Aaren Cook

So that guy, whoever he was, had got some memories...but the girl hadn't?...were these notes enchanted?
Don't be foolish, things like enchantment don't exist I told myself. But still, that was the most likely answer...Hmmm thd girl was now shaking the note as if some magic or memories might just fall out of it if she shook hard enough. This was all too much at once and I doubted any of us could be expected to cope with it rationally.
I was still getting over the shock of complete amnesia, not to mention suddenly knowing my name, before this new note. I had so many questions: Why were we here? Where had we been before? Who brought us here? What did these notes do and how did they do it? But the most pressing question on my mind at that moment was: What the hell was Craeg?!
"This is my plan of attack"

"Hmmm, looks more like a pin to me"

"No, it's definitely a tac"

Jason noticed one guy who looked confused and turned to him. "Hey. The name's Jason. I would tell you more, but I don't know myself."
"Aaren." He replied. "Um, what was that light thing? Was it some kind of trick?"
Jason shrugged. "I saw...things. Things from my old life maybe. I can't tell you much more then it sure as hell wasn't here."
Aaron sighed. "What do we do? What the hell does creag mean?"
Jason shrugged. "Beats me." I don't care. I need more memories. "We could either stand here and do nothing, or keep moving."
As long as I touch the next note first...
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

*sorry but I am out of town for a couple of days. Now here is my part.

Jack

Jack leaned on a tree trunk. His back pressed on the scruffy and peeling bark. They pricked and itched his skin but Jack appeared to be oblivious of the constant nagging unpleasant sensation. Through the dirty lenses glasses that perched on his nose bridge, Jack stared off into the empty space.

"I am Jack? But who is Jack? What is Jack?"

Questions after question shot up in his head like a chain reaction from rows of fuel tanks set alight, demanding answers right here and now. He dug deeper inside his thoughts but could not find anything save for a vast empty black space but he refused to give up. A hint of desperation sparked inside his heart. Something whispers of a distant memory, a dying memory and it seemed that whatever this place was or what he meant to do have a lot of searching for himself.

Jack let out a long, dragging sigh. The sounds of the others lingered in his ears but sounded distant. At that moment he felt a great burden rested on his heart and weighing him down.

Craeg? Notes? Light? Memory?

Sticking his hand inside the pocket of brown khakis he wore, Jack approached the others. There were busy arguing with each other. Not that he knew what to do or even how to handle the situation but Jack felt the need to intervene. Without his memories there was nothing to guide him save for instincts and that was what he was currently running on - Jack decided to let his heart guide him and he would listen to the slightest of impulse in his body. That was a weird thing to do for a man who reached the age of mature rational thinking. But to Jack, waking up in a middle of a forest with nine total strangers without knowing who you were except for your name, there was nothing rational about that.

Jack scanned the faces of the people around him one by one. They were all foreign to him but normal nonetheless. Most are of youths and from the look of it he was the oldest of the lot. And then there was the kid with the red eyes. He looked innocent enough, but his eyes disturbed Jack.

The guy who had been whimpering on the ground after touching the note engaged in a conversation with a stolid looking kid with long brown hair that extended to his shoulder. The girl with smudged make up, stood still, eyes glued to the ground with solemn look painted on her face. Jack paced to the girl, the piece of note dangled from her hands. He tapped the girl's shoulder and said,

"Excuse me, I am Jack. May I?"

Jack pointed to the piece of paper. The girl looked reluctant to hand it over. maybe she was waiting for another burst of light to happen. Jack did not blame her. He knew she felt the desperation of filling in the emptiness before it got too overwhelming, before the void of not knowing who their were consumed them completely.

"Don't worry, I just need to borrow it for a couple of seconds," he said and produced his best smile in hope of gaining the girl's trust.

Ballow

Ballow stared at the idiots. Had they no idea what Craeg was? He let out a sigh and stumbled out of the bushes blindly yelling, "GUYS! Where'd you go?"

He bumped into someone holding the note and Ballow leant over the guys shoulder to read it. He didn't need to, he already knew it, but he had to keep the act down pat. He stared at the clue for a second and then scratched his head.

"Any of you guys use to read history books?" he asked curiously.

"If we had we wouldn't remember them anyway." Someone pointed out.

Ballow nodded and continued, "I think these notes are attached to history. I can't remember anything about it, but the way it's written puts me in the mind of that its some type of ancient sport."

People started mouthing off, "Soccer?"

Ballow shook his head and then rubbed his temple as if in deep concentration, "No, more of a field game. I don't know I'm wracking my brain just trying to remember my general knowledge."

He let out a sigh, "Why don't we just go looking for a field or some sort? It could help."

Inwardly Ballow was laughing, but outwardly he looked concerned. One person spoke up, "That's as good idea as any I've heard today."

Some more people agreed and Ballow smiled dumbly, then said, "Can anyone see any way out of this forest?"

Ballow knew everything about this land, but as they turned to look he slipped away unnoticed and back into the bushes he had come from. There he continued to watch.

"No." I said, but still walked in the most random direction I could think of.

"Then where are you going?" One asked, though I didn't see who it was.

"If you walk one direction long enough, your sure to get out at SOME point." I said, not really caring. I got some wierd looks but continued walked, not exactly caring at this point.

If I go the wrong way, I go the wrong way. I just needed to get out of the woods-there are too many places to hide in this place. Too many places for an ambush.

Why am I so paranoid? Was I afraid of the woods or something? I wish I could remember.

I woke up and looked around. The first thing i did was yawn, although it was not dark yet. I looked around and found a small note stuck on the tree in front of me.

Good morning. I see you have awoken. Your quest to find your memories begins. If you win, you can leave. You lose, you stay. Start the game.

It was only then that i realized that i did not remember anything of my life. I turned the note around and as i found nothing i started to think. All i could remember was getting hit by someone. I touched my head and felt a small bump, so that much was right.

I started to run but after a few minutes started to walk as i knew running would do no good. That's when i heard voices. I gleam of hope drove me towards the place where i heard the sounds from. Maybe they could help me I thought as i started running towards the voice.

*Now could anyone add me in????*

I'd barely walked a few feet when someone ran straight into me. I fell to the ground with an, "ouch!"

I looked up and saw a man with green eyes and black hair looking down at me.

"Sorry." he said, bending down with his hand outstreched. I took in and, with a groan, stood up. Then, I finally looked at the man again.

"No prob," I said, smiling, "I'm Emma."

Ballow

Ballow let out a mournful sigh, were the people he had chosen all dimwits? He walked back towards them and sat down, "There's a grass field to the north-west of us. I saw it from the distance, but I think that's where we need t be heading."

Someone agreed. Ballow let out a fake yawn, "You guys can go ahead, I've been running through these trees all day. I'll catch up."

He pointed and said, "Its over there. Be careful I heard some weird noses as well. Now, to some peaceful R'n'R."

Someone mumbled, "Should we go check it out?"

Ballow smiled inwardly, FINALLY! Someone with brains; he let one of his eyes crack open to see who it was and then he yawned, "Who are you?"

Maybe this person would win. He gave the impression that he was drifting off as the person answered, . . .

Jack

"Well he is right," Jack said to the person who had suggested that they move on to the open grass field.

Meanwhile, he kept on studying the kid with the red eyes. Something still don't feel quite right about him but he shook his head and pushed the thought away.

What could be possibly wrong with the kid? Wasn't he lost his memories as well? But...Quit it Jack, questions can wait and it is impossible to answer all of them by just merely standing here.

Jack gave the note back to the girl with the smudged make up and asked her to come along. He led her toward another girl, a blond girl was talking with a guy that possessed a deep jet black hair. They greeted each other and Jack rallied with the rest.

"What do we do now?" someone said while Jack was cleaning his glasses lenses with his shirt.

"I don't know," another person answered.

"For one, stick together. I don't think this is some kind of tour we are having here. Let us move on to the grass land. Maybe we can find another clue or perhaps several clues."

"What make you so sure?"

Jack folded his arms and sighed, "I don't know and i bet any of us really know what to do for that matter. So shall we proceed? Or do we need to discuss this matter thoroughly. I don't want anybody to be pointing fingers towards each other if we journey out of this forest and something bad happen. If you want to leave then follow me, if you have any other suggestion just say it. I'm all ears."

"Something bad?" someone said from behind.

"Just in case..." Jack said, voice trailing off together with the forest winds, seeping into the empty spaces around him as he looked up towards the darkening horizon.

"...yeah...just in case something bad happens," he repeated.

"Zire" I replied smiling.

****

It wasn't fair, i had run as fast as i could and i find more people with memory losses. There was something strange. Why were we here? Was it by coincidence? Or was someone planning this?

I kept silent and watched as they discussed what to do now. After a small debate they decided to go to this grassland. I followed the group beside Emma, who i had met earlier.

"So you don't remember anything either?" I asked.

She shook her head and sighed. I nodded, "Don't you think its kind of strange that we have all lost our memories and got the same note and end up in the same place?" I asked waiting for an answer.

*Sorry its short guys*

I wonder if people felt the freedom in our culture to love louder, if they'd be quicker to say "I miss you" when the absence of someone is felt instead of just thinking it.
