Happiness is a fleeting shadow,
Trying to dull the pain of everyday life,
but unable to cover up the
vast quantities of pain and anguish
that seems to envelope the world.
The notion of a perfect world
leaves many ensnared in a abyss full
of dreamers, just like themselves,
making it so much easier for depression
to sneak under thin blankets and pull a
mind back into harsh reality.
When the Cheshire cat appears, he leaves
only a fading smile alone with
Alice in her own little dreamland,
to be forsaken by all and captured
by the card soldiers of a minds restrictions,
trying to impose their own view of happiness.
And yet we all live for happiness,
for its warm embrace that makes us feel
accepted in a cold, harsh society.
Like a harvest moon in the bitter autumn nights,
bringing light and hope to those in shadows
Happiness is a sick disease,
bringing peace and hope in a world where
neither exists for more than a moment.
A fleeting feeling condemning those unfortunate
to longing hearts and minds,
only to leaves them broken
