Well, I am running very quickly out of room in my NaNo. I've hit 10K and I'm in 3/4 of the story. Any ideas to stretch it out (to 50K?)

Add pictures; each one is worth one thousand words.

Dialogue. Get them to speak, LOTS. ABout nothing, just fill in the gaps - its the whole point of Nano and although it might make no sense and is just random stuff it brings yor word count up right? ;)

Hope it goes well!

Describe EVERYTHING. It could get boring for the reader, but you can always edit out the excess after NaNo, and then you might have a better idea of what things look like in your head even.

Think of a sequel and write that as well but then just combine them both into one book =)

:)

I've got the exact opposite problem... I'm at 26k and I'm not 1/4 of the way through the (incomplete) outliney-type list of events I want to happen. It's going to be a long novel, let me tell you...

My tip would be to pad. Describe everything, as Kalia said. It is tedious to read, but if you want to hit the wordcount and you are confident in the story, it shouldn't matter. Also, do not use contractions. Rather than writing "doesn't", write "does not". It's a two-for-one deal! (Actually, I've been doing this so much in my NaNo that I'm having a hard time using contractions in my other writing. It's a weird feeling being able to use the apostrophe. :?)

Anyway, good luck! And congrats on being so far into the story!

give all your minor characters complex backgrounds, and work them into the story every time you mention them.

:)

It's actually quite fun.
