Kyle pedaled down the driveway and parked his bike in the garage. He then walked inside and went straight to his room. He dropped onto his bed, exhausted. There he lay and thought for an hour or so. “What can a guy like me do for something like this?” he thought. “How could I help Alex and his friends?” But deep inside, he knew that no one else knew about this whole crazy scenario. The only thing that separated him from everyone else was knowledge. Yet that was enough. “Who are these terrorist people anyways? What do they want with the White House?” Questions filled his mind. Finally he decided he needed to go ahead and pack in case he should leave tomorrow. He did not want to pack much, only what he needed. He packed nothing but clothes, personal care items, and his Swiss Army Knife, all into a big backpack. When he finished, he ate supper, and then did his homework. He was quite tired, so he decided to go to bed.
Kyle could not go to sleep at first; when he did, he did not sleep well. Suddenly he woke up. He heard a sound, like a quiet click. He looked up at the clock, and it was 11:58 pm. “Probably the wind” he thought. But as he began to shut his eyes again, he heard a creaking noise. It was the back gate opening. “I wonder what Dad’s doing out so late” he thought. He got up and opened the blinds to one of his windows, which faced his backyard. To his horror he saw a figure dressed in dark clothes crouched beside the gate. In his left hand was a pistol. Kyle quickly closed the blinds, and watched the guy through a crack under the blinds and above the window sill. The man crept over to the wall at the right of the window, where Kyle couldn’t see him because of the angle. Kyle desperately tried to get a glimpse of him, and soon he did as the man crept closer to the window. Now the man was right under it, where Kyle could see the top of his head, which was inside a black ski mask. Suddenly the man stopped, and began turning his head toward the window. Kyle ducked before he had completely turned around. He lay on the floor pressed against the wall, trying not to be seen. From their backyard light Kyle saw the shadow of the man’s head as it passed by. But as he was about to look back out the window, another head passed. Then Kyle heard the back door open. “It was locked, I’m sure of it!” thought Kyle, as he looked frantically around his room for anything he could use. His parents slept up stairs, and they could not hear any of this.
Footsteps came toward his door. Kyle opened his other window, which faced the side yard, and pried out the insect screen with his knife. He left his backpack right underneath to it. The doorknob turned slowly. As the man came into the room, Kyle popped out from behind the door and smashed his lava lamp on his head before he could even turn around. Kyle heard another person running towards his room. “That must be the other person I saw pass by the window” he thought, as he shut and locked his door. But just as he had turned the latch, a person slammed into the door, and then started hacking at the knob. Kyle ran to the window, grabbed his backpack, and leaped out, not bothering to close the window.
He ran full speed, wondering what to do. Not far to the left the road ran onto the main street. To the right, the rest of the neighborhood, quiet and unsuspecting, lay. He took off to the right. There were some woods at the end of the road, and he headed for them. Half way there he looked behind him, and saw a small blue car turning onto the road from the main street. He was not sure who was in it, but he felt adrenaline running through his veins as he sprinted even faster towards the trees. “I had better call Alex to come pick me up, as soon as I get to the woods” Kyle thought, as he neared the woods. Suddenly there was a deafening screech heard behind him, and as he glanced back he saw the blue car racing full speed- towards him. He ran desperately now, picking his legs as high and stretching them as far, as he could. Time seemed to be in slow-motion now. The car came closer, inch by inch, foot by foot. As he glanced a second time he saw a person- again with a ski mask. He looked back in front and knew he would not make it to the woods before the car caught up with him. That’s when he got the idea. Suddenly, without slowing for even a step, he stopped, turned around, and ran at the same speed toward the car. The car had been going way over the speed limit, without a doubt, and was caught completely off guard with Kyle’s action. In panic the driver slammed the brakes, but it was still heading straight at Kyle full speed. There was no way the car would not hit him now. But as the car came about a yard in front of him, Kyle jumped athletically into the air. The front bumper and hood passed barely underneath him in mid-air. His foot hit the windshield, shattering it to pieces over the alarmed driver. Kyle pushed up and over the roof of the car using the impact of the kick. He hit the back of the trunk, and rolled onto the ground. He looked up and saw the car slam gently into the trees.
After taking a deep breath, and a sigh of relief, he took his phone out of his pocket and called Alex. As it was ringing, he got up and ran past the car into the woods. “I’ll go to the other side of these woods by the small alley, where Alex can pick me up” he thought to himself.
“Hello” answered Alex on the phone. “Decide to come with me?”
“Yeah I’m coming! But how did you know?” Kyle replied.
“Well if you were calling me, either you were telling me you were coming or not. But why did you call me so late? I’ve got to sleep some time, you know.”
“If you had any idea what just happened, you’d understand.”
“What?” asked Alex, rather nonchalantly.
“A couple of guys broke into my house, and they were looking for me.”
“Well what happened? I mean, where are they now?”
“Both sitting at two different places unconscious with glass scattered around them.” Kyle answered.
“You beat them single handedly?” Alex asked again, only slightly more intrigued.
“Yeah. Smashed one on the head with my lava lamp, and the other’s car I smashed into a tree, with him inside.”
“Sweet! I look forward to hearing more later, but when do you want me to pick you up?”
“Now if it’s all right, ‘cause I don’t know how many more of them there are and I’ve got nowhere to go. I’m only in the woods that the car crashed into. I’m headed to the other side, which is an alley that comes off of Granite Boulevard. Could you pick me up there?” asked Kyle.
“Let me see… oh yes! Ok I’ll be over there in about five minutes.” Alex hung up.
Kyle had been trekking through the woods at a pretty fast pace during their conversation, but he made sure he was doing it as quietly as possible. He ducked under branches, slipped between thorn bushes, and even climbed over a large log decaying on the ground, until finally he came to the alley. It was a dirt path just wide enough for two cars to pass side by side. It was red-colored soil, with deep ruts on the sides and middle. On the other side were more woods, though they were considerably less dense. Then off in the distance he heard a car driving over the bumpy path. He retreated part way back into the woods, and watched a black jeep, that looked to Kyle like it hadn’t been washed in months, slowly approach. A man was looking out the window cautiously. It was Alex. Kyle popped out from his hiding spot and waved. Alex saw him and nodded back. Kyle ran up to the jeep and whispered, “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Same here, I was beginning to wonder if this was the right alley.” Alex beckoned to him, “get in, we’ve got to get out quickly.” Alex backed up the jeep and turned back the way he came. As they were driving out of the alley, Kyle asked him,
“What about Melissa?”
“You said you would call her, if I remember correctly. But yes call her right away; I’m afraid the people who tracked you to your home tracked her as well.”
“Ok.” Kyle pulled out his phone and dialed her number.
“Hey Kyle I was just about to call you!” she answered, almost immediately.
“Really? What happened?”
“I had some intruders break into my house, and I barely escaped” she answered.
“Same here, actually I’m in Alex’s jeep right now and if you decide to go with us we’re ready to pick you up” said Kyle.
“Yes I decided to go on the mission, I’m glad you’re going.”
“So where are you right now?” asked Kyle.
“I live near Walgreen’s on Amelia Avenue, I’ll meet you there.”
“Ok we’ll be there as soon as possible. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Then Kyle hung up. “We need to go to Walgreen’s on Amelia Avenue to pick up Melissa” Kyle told Alex.
“Ok I know where Amelia Avenue is, you can show me how to get to Walgreen’s from there” said Alex, as the jeep pulled off of Granite Boulevard. There was not much traffic in Crystal Creek at night. They didn’t seem to pass more than one or two cars a minute. When they got to Amelia, Alex asked, “Which way from here?”
“Turn right, and then go straight and we’ll be there in a minute or so” instructed Kyle. Soon he saw Walgreen’s on their left. “There it is.” Alex pulled into the parking lot. Kyle got out and waved into the shadows behind the building, knowing that Melissa was hiding just as he had been earlier. Sure enough, she came out, and waved back at them. She ran over to the jeep.
“I’m so glad you came!” she said, relieved. She shook Kyle’s hand.
“We’ve got plenty of time for talking in the car, but get in first” said Alex as firmly as he could, but he couldn’t hide his grin. They hopped in, and Alex began driving, driving out of the city and into what was the unknown for Kyle and Melissa. There was only silence at first, as they took a breather after what had been an exhausting night, or morning, as it technically was.
“So let’s tell our stories!” said Melissa cheerfully.
“Well, I think you two need some sleep first. I will drive for an hour or so, and then we will all rest. When we wake up, we will have a short day, and you can tell your whole stories. But until then you two should sleep.” They didn’t argue, and fell asleep very quickly.

You can only believe what you can't see. If you can see it, you no longer believe it-- you know it.

Even an agnostic believes something, if nothing else than that nothing else is believable. So what do you believe?

Wicked awesome, baby!!! :smt081 (Sorry, I say that a lot, don't I?) Kyle is so hot (he's you, that must be why! :smt054 ) and that car-jump he does was freakin cool!! 8) It would look great in a movie. And that lava-lamp-as-weapon thing was hilarious. I know it probably wasn't meant to be funny but nevertheless it was. :smt043
Two little critiques. (1) You might want to separate the second section with all the action in it into smaller paragraphs. That is, break it up a little more to make it slightly easier to read. (2) I really don't mean to be too picky, but it seems a little odd that Kyle's house is broken into and there's no mention of his parents. Surely they would have heard something and come to check on it! If you don't want to put all that in, maybe you could mention that his parents were out of town that night or something like that. :smt045
All in all, though, a great story and very exciting! :smt068 :smt072
:smt060
You must be swift as the coursing river,
With all the force of a great typhoon,
With all the strength of a raging fire,
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon.

Hey I tried to fix what you told me :D . Anything I missed, Or anything else that needs fixing?
I don't think of Kyle as me anymore, really. If it was me he would have been toast long ago  !
