Well in this time of pure boredom I kinda decided to help the "new flesh" to improve their writings and when I say "new flesh" I mean the guys under 15 who just started writing. I don't consider myself a great writer, but I got some nice tips to give you so listen up:
1.) The making of a storyline
- Ok! You`ve decided to write a book/story and you try putting ideas head to head and make a big picture. Put them on paper. Don't start writing until you got the "sketch" made. I suggest you write one-two-three chapters and then stop and review them, if necessary add or cut ideas, actions or even character in order to reveal them in the following chapters.
- Even now and then you will find nice descriptions, actions, acts of the characters in books, movies even music. Don't leave the picture that you formed in your head fade. As some point it might be useful.
- At some point you`ll notice that your story is quite similar to something that you read. Don't worry! Seriously. You have all the time in the world to change it.
2.) Actual story - Inspiration
- You started writing. Take your time! You don't need to finish it by tomorrow. Describe every thing you can.
- At some point you`ll run out of ideas and you`ll start writing smaller chapters. Take a holiday off and do something that you like (besides writing -.-) and that can get you inspired. Just have fun !
3.) Characters
- Every story needs to have characters. Problem creating them? First of all chose what they`ll do in the tale. You image his/her/its face and try to describe every single part of it : shape of face, eyes, skin colour, hair colour, haircut, scars. Then the whole body: height, weight and so on.
- As every living being of a story a character needs a name. Just scramble some letters untill you get names.
4.) Character`s moods, way of being
- It's rather natural that your characters will have something of your style of being and the mood that you`re in. Great, but don't make your characters alike. (In my book I made a character that is insane, one that is ... sane and others I took examples from the people around me.)
- Acting, movements, speech must be a reflection of their soul.
5.) Descriptions
- Everything you see as a writer we must see. So you have a lot of work.
- Don't do descriptions "The [thing] was [so] and [so] and gave a [feeling] of [....]". Best you use metaphors, actions to revealing how it is.
6.) Hidden story lines or secrets in the story
- You can make multiple storyline - yes, but you need to be carefull cause you can get lost and them and the whole story breaks. You also need to decide what characters will be in the first, second or even third story line and when they will all me, if they meet.
- Secrets: This is quite a hard thing to do because you need to do a background story and to "paste" it in the actual one. You need to give clues, things to do to reveal them and so on.
7.) Ending
- I know some of you have problems in ending a story. Think if you will continue the story (another volume) or to break it - end it.
- If you want to continue it make a quick ending where things are left in the air, questions without answer.
- If you want to close it say all that you can about the characters (following months, years).
8.) Getting help
- You eventually need some help. Ask an older person that has read and knows what a book/story needs for help. It's best to have a helper cause you can't see as a reader that just reads the book/story. You know what happens next, what it suppose to happen and so.
