Recent Art Projects.

Hi there folks. Now in the past I've pretty much only posted digital art. Well Surprise i can actually draw and paint too!.

This is a portrait of a YWS member that I did from a photo. First one to guess who he is gets a cookie.

This is a painting I deed taking a picture of a Deer and another of a tree.
Medium: Acrylic Paint on Canvas.

And zomg, Adam! I don't know much about art in general, so I'm rather useless at a critique, but I like it! The deer's body seems a little out of proportion to teh face, I think - too bulky on the body, maybe? I love the detail with the reeds (or something of hte sort) in the water, and on the bark. *nods*

i do admire the portrait, but with the deer a felt a little uneasy. I'll tell you why-
firstly even though its a very harmonious composition, it doesn't attract attention on the first go which is the aim of artworks meaning it could have been little more aggressive.
secondly the colors were flat and since you used acrylics you could have used interesting textural effects to highlight the deer.
thirdly the background i suppose was to be dark to highlight the deer but is in a similar level of brightness, you really need to darken it.
fourthly and finally, is the foreground grass because if ti is then there should be no reflection of the deers body (but there is the reflection of it right underneath the deer, the white patch) so try avoid using the same colour for shadows until and unless you are not trying to show water and reflections.

And that's all that i had to say.

I also love the crispness of the deer and the way you've used colour in your first picture!
Oil pastels are very cool, and the ground's relfection in the second picture is great!

And no, that's not water, the idea is that the Deer is glowing. I wish you all could just see it in person, I mean some things picture well, others not so much. That painting being one of them. I appreciate the crits though.

ohmygee the shading on the shirt is like incredible!!! and the deer one is nice; I like the contrast.

But me thinkies the face on the guy is a little...hmm, like, thin?
or maybe its just that the eyes are really close and too big.
but maybe this guy does actually look like that and I'm being stupid.
