The Way they were
‘Hi-yah! Humph! Hi-Yah!’
Sounds of someone training filled the lair. That was what woke Raphael at 4 in the morning. Leo only starts training at 5, why is he up so early today? Grumbling Raph made his way to the Dojo, he was going to give Leo a piece of his mind! What was he thinking, practicing at this time of the-
Raph’s train of thought was cut short as he saw who was training. Mikey. He was in a fully-fledged workout. Punching and kicking the punching bag, performing kata after kata. Whirling his nunchucks at a dizzying pace.
Raphael was utterly dumb struck.. Mikey? He had not expected him at all, not this early in the morning
Another thing that shocked Raph, was that he had never known that he could fight that well, or that fiercely….
Flashback
Ninjas were everywhere, they were out numbered 20 to one, and there was no way that they could make it out alive. Raph was being pressed to the ground at the sheer numbers. He heard Donnie cry out , he felt a blade being pressed down at his neck, his vision was going blurry…
Suddenly he heard a roar of fury and the sound of people falling. Foot were falling all around, the last thing Raphael remembered before passing out was a blur of green and orange.
End flash back
Now it made sense, it was Mikey who had saved them. In fact he could remember many swimmingly hopeless situation where all of them had been beaten but they still made it out alive. Why didn’t he realize before, why didn’t Mikey tell them before?
Raphael was snapped out of his ‘daydream’ at the sound of his brother’s voice.
‘ Raph, what are you doing in here? You should be in bed, dude.’
“Huh? Oh, I just heard something in the dojo so…what are YOU doing here?
“ Nothing, um, you know, just …practicing and stuff.” Mikey answered, looking uncomfortable.
“ Mike, how long have you been practicing”
“Um, a few hours”
“What? Why the shell? Leo does that, when did you start?
“I um…”
“Well?’
“A few years ago. I suppose I started because I was worried”
“About what?
“the same as Leo I guess, and, um, like if we were in a fight and, and you needed me and I wasn’t able to save any of you and-
Mikey chocked down a sob. Raph walked over to him and sat him down. He put a comforting arm around his brother. He allowed Mikey to cry into his shoulder for a while before murmuring softly “ It’s ok Mikey, it’s ok. You’ve never failed us before, not when we really needed you. You saved us so many times already, why did you never tell us it was you?”
‘T-thanks Raph, I-I don’t know why, I just…” Mikey sighed “ I don’t know”
Raph Hugged Mikey harder “ I Love you Bro, and I’m proud of ya, you mean a lot to me, thanx, thanx for being our light”
Mikey looked at his brother, shocked. Raph wasn’t ensactly the most ….sentimental, person around. “ really?” he asked
Raph smiled “ Yeah, really. But don’t tell anyone”
Mikey smirked mischievously “ Oh? Not even Leo?”
“If you tell Leo or anyone else I swear you will die a very slow and painful death Mike”
Mikey giggled and jumped up “ LEO…..!”
Chuckling Raph jumped up and started chasing his brother around the lair.
