The Move

The drive to the airport was mostly quiet. My dad hummed the whole way, it got very aggravating. I could barely stand the sight of him, but he was happy, I was leaving and he had a skank waiting for him at home. I have lived in Winters, New Hampshire my whole life. None of my friends even knew I was leaving. I felt terrible. Especially for Clayton and Kelly. My best friends. My father was very cheery, knowing that I was going to be gone from the house. No wonder my mother divorced him. I am almost seventeen, my mother left when I was nine. My sister wasn't around for the divorce and neither was my brother. I had to deal with my father after the divorce. My mom wanted me to live with her but I wanted to stay in New Hampshire where I grew up. If my mom lived in New Hampshire I would have moved with her. The only thing good about moving from New Hampshire is being away from my father.
Everything I own is now on its way to Huntington Beach, California. I hate my father. I’m pretty sure he only wants me around to do stuff for him. .
“Rose, you don t have to look so pissed off.” My father said, trying to mock me.
“Yes I do. You are ridiculous.”
“Ha! I'm the one that is ridiculous? All you do is complain and party.”
“I never complain. All you do is have sex with that tramp.”
“Like you would know.”
“Whatever.”
“Maybe living with your mother will teach you some respect.”
“I have respect for people who give it back. You don't know the first thing about respect. You still think women shouldn't have rights and they should only cook and clean.”
“You're right, because thats how it should be.”
“Go to hell.”
“Already there, sweetie.”
Then there was silence the rest of the way to Logan Airport. When we got there he helped me get my bags out of the car, waved me off, and to tell mom he said hi, not that she would care. She hates him just as much as I do. Then I was off to a place where I did not want to live. My life was turning to a living hell.
The plane ride to Los Angeles Airport was about 6 hours. The ride was very smooth and very quiet; the most noise I heard when I wasn’t listening to my iPod was the flight attendant asking me what I would like to drink. I got a coke, and with it a little bag of airplane pretzels. I drank my coke and ate my pretzels, then went back to focusing on my music.
Finally the plane landed, and as soon as it did I knew I was officially miserable, because I didn't enjoy the landing which was always my favorite part of flying. We were taxiing to the gate, which took longer than it should have because the airport was not expecting us for another 20 minutes, and they had to clear a gate for us to pull into.
It seemed like forever before we were finally hooked up to the gate. The people on the plane were waiting patiently then there was a loud Ding and the fasten seatbelt sign went off. Of course as soon as that bell rings, every single person on the plane stands up as if everyone could get off at the exact same time. I know that’s not possible but I still stand up, eager to get off the crowded and stuffy plane.
After about ten minutes of people filing off the plane, I was finally able to get off. I didn’t need to ask anyone where I needed to go because I did like I usually do, follow the big lit up signs that read ‘Baggage Claim.’ Like I was expecting as soon as I walked through the big security arch, that declared I was no longer in access to the terminals, I saw my mother standing there with a huge smile on her face and a big metallic balloon that read ‘Welcome Home!’. As soon as I read it I thought to myself, Psh, yeah right. Home. As much as I hated my life right now, I was happy to see my mom all bright and happy, and of course abnormally gorgeous as usual.
“Hello my baby!” She said, excitedly.
“Hey mom”
“How was your flight?”
“Just another plane ride.”
“No screaming kids?”
“Not this time”
“That’s great! I'm so glad you are living with me and Jim now! The kitties missed you”
Jim is my step-father. He was nice, and I’m sure he was just as excited as my mom to have me live with them, he doesn't have kids and my brother and sister live on their own. I didn’t want to say anything negative to my mom, I hate hurting my mom’s feelings. It was almost as bad as lying to her.
“I'm glad too, mom.” I lied.
I hate lying to my mother like that. Lying is okay to do, unless it is to my mom, because it makes me sad when I have to. We headed to the baggage claim with a big number six and a screen underneath that read 'Flight 396, Boston Int’l Airport.'
I only had two bags; everything else was in boxes on its way to my new home. I had managed to fit my entire wardrobe into those two bags. I saw my big blue suitcase with the pink ribbon on it and grabbed it, then my big black one came around and my mom grabbed it.
After getting my bags we headed out to the parking garage where my moms little sport car waited for us. She put my bags in the trunk and got into the front. My mom let me drive so I was in the driver s seat and she was in the passenger seat. I started to roll my window down but my mom stopped me.
“I’ll put the Air Conditioning on.” My mom explained.
“What’s wrong with the fresh air?”
“It’s 85 degrees out!” She laughed.
“It’s December it shouldn’t be that hot.”
“That’s how it is here; there isn’t snow here, no sir!”
“Ugh, I hate the heat!” I complained.
She laughed at me. “Get used to it.”
“I really doubt I will.”
“The weather here is always nice, except when we have rainstorms, and boy when it rains, it pours.”
“Then I will pray for those days”
“I don’t get how you don’t like the warm weather”
“Its simple really; it sucks.”
“You’re disturbed.”
“I try.” I managed a smile.
I kept driving following the directions of my moms GPS. My mom and I were getting along pretty well, better than I had expected. I haven’t seen her so happy in a while, not that I see her much. I'm glad that she’s happy to have me here, because I know I’m still not feelin’ it.
When we got to my new house my step-father was not home. He is a lawyer so he is pretty busy most of the time. My mom is a hairdresser, so she’s not as busy and she doesn't work on Sundays.
Once we got inside my mom brought my suitcases upstairs to my bedroom. My room had a queen size bed, a bookshelf, a desk, a big dresser, and a good sized walk in closet. I started to unpack all my clothes. I put all my jeans in the dresser, which had three drawers and a cabinet part that had three shelves. Then I put all my shirts in the closet. Color coordinated from lightest to darkest.
After I got all my clothes put away I decided I would go downstairs and raid the kitchen for something to eat. I found some macaroni and cheese. My mom came into the kitchen while I was cooking it.
“You ready for school tomorrow?”
“What? School!”
“What, did you think you didn’t have to go to school anymore?”
“No, I just didn't think I would have to go immediately. Can’t I be home schooled?”
“No you can not be home schooled.”
“Ugh! Why not?”
“I can’t stay home everyday to home school you, besides you should get some friends, maybe even a boyfriend.”
“Doubt it, mom.”
“If your attitude is like that you won’t.”
“Mom, I don t want to!”
“That’s too bad isn’t it?”
“I can’t. I don’t think you understand, I'm not going to be able to do that!”
“Do what?”
“Go to a new school and make new friends! I wont fit in!”
“Rose you’re beautiful and outgoing; you’ll have no problem at all.”
“That’s not true and you know it!” I shouted.
“No I don’t. You will be perfectly fine.”
“No it will be hell!”
I was shouting at this point. Getting very upset. My mother and I were fighting and of course my step-father has to walk in during it.
“What's going to be hell?” He asked with a big grin.
“She thinks school tomorrow will be hell, and she wont make any friends.” My mom explained to him.
“It will be! I won t make any, and arriving on the bright yellow school bus will make me look so much better!” I said sarcastically.
“I will bring you to school.” My mom answered me.
“I'm not going to get involved with this; I have a case to work on for work. It’s nice to have you home, Rose, we can talk later.” My step-dad said with a smile.
I nodded.
“Okay honey, I will talk to you a little later,” my mom said to him then directed her attention back to me. “Tomorrow is a new week for all the kids, it’s a Monday, and the weather isn’t suppose to be very hot, around 70 degrees.”
“Ugh mom! How am I going to do this?”
“It will be easy for you, don’t worry.”
“Rah!”
I stormed away with my macaroni in hand, I was very annoyed. It was official that I was pissed off because I sounded like a two ton buffalo going up the stairs to my room. I felt like I had no say in my life! It’s so annoying. At this point my whole existence was like a giant hell hole. I even thought about throwing a hissy fit to get my way, but I was almost 17 years old. That was hardly appropriate.
By nine thirty at night I hadn’t thought of any way to get out of going to school tomorrow, so I would prepare for the horrid day I had coming. I knew it would be hot, regardless that it was the middle of the winter. I picked out an orange and white wife beater; the orange would go underneath the white one. Then I picked out a jean skirt that rarely got used in New Hampshire. The outfit was killer; even if I embarrassed myself I would still look good. I laid out the outfit and then I laid out my make-up that I would be wearing. I didn’t really need make-up, my skin never broke out. I honestly didn’t care how I looked, but I did want to make an impression, even if I couldn’t make friends I didn’t want everyone thinking I was a loser.
When I left my high school in New Hampshire everyone thought I had serious depression, well that was kind of true, but no one knew why, not even my best friends Kelly and Clayton. Poor Clayton, he will react worse to me being gone than Kelly. I felt bad, my best friends think I’ll be in school tomorrow and when I don’t show up one of them will call my cell phone which has already been shut off and my mom got me a new one that is registered to this area. Once they gets the message on my phone saying that my phone isn't in service anymore they would most likely try my house phone thinking that something was just wrong with my phone, and then when she called the house phone, they would get a message saying that that phone line had been disconnected, because my father was in the process of moving, because he didn't want to live in Winters anymore. They would both start worrying and I would feel very bad because I didn't even give them the slightest hint that they might not ever see me again. Eventually I would call them, but I don't know how soon that would be! I didn’t even say goodbye. My father is so stupid, he wouldn't let me tell anyone.

The drive to the airport was mostly quiet. My dad hummed the whole way, it got very aggravating. I could barely stand the sight of him, but he was happy, I was leaving and he had a skank waiting for him at home. This transition from talking about her father to talking about living in her town needs to be smoother. My advise would be to just start a new paragraph. I have lived in Winters, New Hampshire my whole life. None of my friends even knew I was leaving. You say this in the last chapter. No need to say it again. I felt terrible. Especially for Clayton and Kelly. My best friends. My father was very cheery, knowing that I was going to be gone from the house. Say this earlier. Either move this to the sentences above or just cut it completly No wonder my mother divorced him. Okay, this whole paragraph about her mother and stuff is really choppy. Try to make it smoother by connecting sentences or cutting unneeded info.
Everything I own is now on its way to Huntington Beach, California. I hate my father. I’m pretty sure he only wants me around to do stuff for him. .

“Like you would know.”
“Whatever.”

“I have respect for people who give it back. You don't know the first thing about respect. You still think women shouldn't have rights and they should only cook and clean.”

“Already there, sweetie.” Her father sounds childish. Make him sound older. This sounds like a teenage thing to say.

I would be so hurt and pissed if my best friend just ditched without telling me about it. Really think about this option and if it makes sense the the story.

Okay, you have a good start but I do think you really need to describe more. Your sentences are too choppy and too cut up. Read through it a couple times and really think about what you should keep or what you need to cut out.

Also, you need to remember that you can't just say "I'm annoyed." That doesn't tell the reader anything. Really go into detail, really explain what they are feeling.

Lastly, when you write dialogue, there is a rule about tags. When you have a sentence and follow it with a tag, you use a comma instead of a period at the end. Also, when using a tag, you use lowercase letters unless it is a name. For example:

[b]"Mom, I feel sick," Lucy complained, grabbing at her stomach dramatically.
"What?! You can't be! What about your game?" her mother exclaimed.
"I guess you'll just have to tell them I can't play," Lucy sighed.

You see? Remember that for the furture.

Otherwise, this was decent. Just work on the things I pointed out and it will slowly improve.

Keep Writing! :D

Sorry it took so long to get to this. well, here i go!

I could barely stand the sight of him, but he was happy, I was leaving and he had a skank waiting for him at home.

Period after happy.
~~~~~~~~~~
I have lived in Winters, New Hampshire my whole life. None of my friends even knew I was leaving. I felt terrible. Especially for Clayton and Kelly. My best friends. My father was very cheery, knowing that I was going to be gone from the house. No wonder my mother divorced him. I am almost seventeen, my mother left when I was nine.
Your first talking about her friends, then about her family. Two separate paragraphs.
~~~~~~~~~~
The only thing good about moving from New Hampshire is being away from my father.

Good thing, not thing good.
~~~~~~~~~~~
about 6 hours.
Write out six.
~~~~~~~~~~
Finally the plane landed, and as soon as it did I knew I was officially miserable, because I didn't enjoy the landing which was always my favorite part of flying.

Run-on!
~~~~~~~~~~~
another 20 minutes,
Write out twenty
~~~~~~~~~~~
Like I was expecting as soon as I walked through the big security arch, that declared I was no longer in access to the terminals, I saw my mother standing there with a huge smile on her face and a big metallic balloon that read ‘Welcome Home!’.

Run-on!
~~~~~~~~~~~
I hate lying to my mother like that.
Said this twice already but you didn't say why she was lying or that she was lying. she wasn't glad to be away from the jerk-face dad?
~~~~~~~~~~~
My mom let me drive so I was in the driver s seat and she was in the passenger seat.

Huh? Uhm, we aren't idiots, we understand that if you are driving your in the drivers seat. Duh maybe?
~~~~~~~~~~~
I haven’t seen her so happy in a while,
Yeah, haha, neither have I. Since she hadn't seen her in a while, maybe when she first sees her, her mom looks different. Maybe died her hair to hide all of five strands of gray hair....anything?
~~~~~~~~~~
When we got to my new house my step-father was not home.

Comma after house.
~~~~~~~~~~
He is a lawyer so he is pretty busy most of the time. My mom is a hairdresser, so she’s not as busy and she doesn't work on Sundays.
Uhm, okay? How does this fit in? If you are trying to say that Jim is at work, then just say that. Something like, Jim is a big shot lawyer around here and takes on so many cases, he's never around. Something like that maybe? Reword?
~~~~~~~~~~
Once we got inside my mom brought

Comma after inside.
~~~~~~~~~~
which had three drawers and a cabinet part that had three shelves
An armoire?
~~~~~~~~~~
“No you can not be home schooled.”

*Shudders* wayyy to formal. And too much dialog without any discriptions. what does this place look like? How about the neighborhood? Any kiddies running around at the neighbor's house?
~~~~~~~~~~~
“Rose you’re beautiful and outgoing; you’ll have no problem at all.”
Addressing rule.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I said sarcastically.

Comma after said.
~~~~~~~~~~~
“I will bring you to school.” My mom answered me.
My mom answered.
~~~~~~~~~~~
“Rah!”

?
~~~~~~~~~~~
I stormed away with my macaroni in hand, I was very annoyed.
Some of your sentences are very choppy like this one. When did she make the macaroni? Seriously, no descriptions in your dialog. You should work on that. What makes her look annoyed. Was her face getting red? What she jaw clenched?
~~~~~~~~~~~
It was official that I was pissed off because I sounded like a two ton buffalo going up the stairs to my room.

Run-on. It was official, I was pissed. I did my best to sound like a two ton buffalo going up the stairs to my room. sound better?
~~~~~~~~~~~
I felt like I had no say in my life! It’s so annoying
.
You switched tenses here.
~~~~~~~~~~~
almost 17 years

Write out seventeen.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I think you did better this time when it comes to dialog punctuation. But description wise....meh. It's not the best. I'd polish this up a bit first.
Well, post chapter three already!! haha.
Hey, Jessica B. I'm glad you got a name figured out for this. 'Untitled' wasn't quite as good... Anyway, I didn't read the other reviews, so, like last time, pardon any repeats.
I could barely stand the sight of him, but he was happy, I was leaving and he had a skank waiting for him at home.
You need a period after 'happy' instead of a comma.
My father was very cheery, knowing that I was going to be gone from the house. No wonder my mother divorced him. I am almost seventeen, my mother left when I was nine. My sister wasn't around for the divorce and neither was my brother. I had to deal with my father after the divorce. My mom wanted me to live with her but I wanted to stay in New Hampshire where I grew up. If my mom lived in New Hampshire I would have moved with her. The only thing good about moving from New Hampshire is being away from my father.
This is a bit of an info dump, where you're telling us all about this character's past. To avoid this, introduce it little by little, and integrate it with dialogue if you can.
“Rose, you don t have to look so pissed off.” My father said, trying to mock me.
“Yes I do. You are ridiculous.”
“Ha! I'm the one that is ridiculous? All you do is complain and party.”
“I never complain. All you do is have sex with that tramp.”
“Like you would know.”
“Whatever.”
“Maybe living with your mother will teach you some respect.”
“I have respect for people who give it back. You don't know the first thing about respect. You still think women shouldn't have rights and they should only cook and clean.”
“You're right, because thats how it should be.”
“Go to hell.”
“Already there, sweetie.”
This would be much better if you described more. Mention their physical reactions, or maybe even the father turning the car's wheel while going around a bend. Whatever feels right. You just need to fill this in a bit more. I loved the way the dialogue went, though. Especially the "Already there, sweetie" part.
When we got there he helped me get my bags out of the car, waved me off, and to tell mom he said hi, not that she would care.
The middle part should be phrased as "waved me off, and told me to tell mom he said hi..."
My life was turning to a living hell.
I know she's moving away from her friends, but at the same time she's getting away from an abusive, lustful father that doesn't give a crap about her. If anything, she should at least think of that part as a bright side.
“That’s great! I'm so glad you are living with me and Jim now! The kitties missed you”
You do this a few other times too. You forgot the period at the end of the sentence.
After getting my bags we headed out to the parking garage where my moms little sport car waited for us.
You need an apostraphy in "moms"
I don't have a quote for this one, but I want to mention it before I forget about it. The repetition of "My mom" gets really high in this chapter. It would be better if you referred to her as 'she' more since it's in first person. That will increase fluidity and make it better overall.
“I’ll put the Air Conditioning on.” My mom explained.
“What’s wrong with the fresh air?”
“It’s 85 degrees out!” She laughed.
“It’s December it shouldn’t be that hot.”
“That’s how it is here; there isn’t snow here, no sir!”
“Ugh, I hate the heat!” I complained.
She laughed at me. “Get used to it.”
“I really doubt I will.”
“The weather here is always nice, except when we have rainstorms, and boy when it rains, it pours.”
“Then I will pray for those days”
“I don’t get how you don’t like the warm weather”
“Its simple really; it sucks.”
“You’re disturbed.”
“I try.” I managed a smile.
Here's another one of your good dialogues that could be great if you just added in more description (You did it a few other times, but I thought 2 examples was enough). It's okay to have parts like this where there's little to no description, but you do it nearly every time two people have a conversation. Just think about the things they would be doing in the car. The mom would turn on the air conditioner, the main character would be making turns and stopping at lights (don't mention too many of these, though, since they're pretty boring details), and whatever else you can think of.
I kept driving following the directions of my moms GPS.
You need a comma after 'driving'.
Overall this was pretty good. It was better in most aspects compared to the first, but your dialogues still had no description. Other than that, I thought it was a little strange how she's freaking out about how her friends will worry about her when it would be easy to just call them with a land line or cell phone. Since they're friends I'm sure she has their numbers. Otherwise, good job. Keep it up.
Trying to get to heaven without Jesus is like climbing to the summit of Mount Everest naked. You die before it happens.
