EDIT
Chapter Sixteen
“And what of the boy?” Sebastian asked Damien.
We had mobed into the living room, but no one sat down. Damien and Sebastian were facing each other and I stood alone in the corner. Compaired to them, I felt weak and vunerable. They were tall and brawny, I was short and wimpy. One stupid move and I could be dinner.
Damien tilted his head to the stairs as if he was listening to something, and then tilted it back to Sebastian. “Bailey is still sleeping.” My heart jumped at the sound of my brother’s name. There was no reason for him to be involved.
“You should get them both out of this house. They will be safest with the girls.” Sebastian licked his lower lips and Damien went stiff. Something told me that I should be scared. Whatever that something was, it didn’t have to tell me twice. I went completely still, hoping not to be the cause of this new tense atmostphere. “Yes,” He continued in a more cryptic tone. “They need to leave.”
Damien didn’t skip a beat. He turned to me and took my arm. He flung me around and I hit his back with a painful thud.
“Hey!” I managed to gasp in protest.
We were already in the air at that point. Everything around us went blury and then black. I was to afriad to protest physically, in fear of falling off of him.
I hadn’t even blinked before we were in the garage with the atomatic door slowly opening. He flung me around against the passanger’s door of my silver Volvo.
“Stay,” he said in a low stern voice.
Stupidly, I blinked. With vampires around, you miss so much when you blink.
The back door of the Volvo was open and Damien was slowly backing out of it with a cell phone to his ear. In the silence, I could slightly hear the ringing tone over my uneven breathing.
“Get in,” he said in the same harsh tone.
I didn’t have to time to reach for the door handle, or even tell him I didn’t have the keys, before he flashed to the driver’s side. It was such a quick movement; my eyes were to slow to follow.
He stared at me over the roof of the Volvo. He was frowning, but then his lip twitched up into a wicked grin.
“You should see your face,” he chuckled as he opened the door and got in the car.
After glancing in the back window and seeing Bailey curled up in the back seat, I got into the car.
He snapped the phone shut as I was closing the door. I heard him murmuring into the receiver but couldn’t make out the words.
“Where are you taking us?” I asked between clenched teeth.
He was still smiling but it faded when he glanced down at my face.
“Somewhere safe,” he said, clearing his throat.
I looked out the windshield as I spoke. “Why now? Why didn’t you think of leaving before?”
He pulled onto the main road without checking to see if any cars where coming. I suddenly fear for our lives. Something bad was going to happen in my house that Damien knew about and wasn’t telling me.
“Plans change, Genna,” he said playfully. “Your—scent—it’s, well, around everything in the house. It will be the first trail Jazz will pick up on and try to follow. This is only a precaution.” He winked at me.
“What about my father? His scent is around the house too.” I asked trying to find a hole in their plan.
He shrugged. “Your father is out of town, so it would be easier to follow Jazz if he was to track him. If you and Bailey where there, well, it could be ugly if something goes wrong.” He paused and glanced down at me. “I was the worst out of my family, you know, the hardest to control. They had to lock me up for a while and sent in meals like room service.”
I shuddered at the thought of a person being scared to death and forced to be locked in a room with a blood crazed vampire. It was too easy to picture.
Bailey stirred in the back seat then sighed. He snorted then went back to his deep even breathing.
I sighed and asked, “What’s going to happen when he wakes up? I don’t think we should tell him that psycho vampires took us hostage for the night.” My voice turned into a harsh whisper.
He didn’t look at me as he said, “You cant tell him what ever your beating heart desires. I won’t be sticking around.”
Anger filled my cheeks. “You’re just dumping us somewhere!” My voice rose and Bailey grunted. I recoiled and looked out the window.
We stayed in silence as I fumed. We left the borders of Hazleton, it was completely dark out. In the moonlight, I could tell that we were passing empty meadows that stretched on for miles and miles. That place looks better at night.
I could feel his eyes on me as I sat. My mind told me to steal a glance, but I knew better. He would be staring at me with those smoldering baby blues. Those eyes would pierce right through me and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
He sighed. “I’m not trying t sound mean, but why are you acting like such a bitch? I’m saving your ass.”
I rolled my eyes. Of course, he would make this all about him.
“Let’s see,” I started. “I just saw the love my life for the last time ever, and he didn’t even give me a good-bye kiss. He just freaking left me there like he never cared in the first place. He left so many unanswered questions and making me feel like I was used.” I paused in thought then continued, “I am being kidnapped by a vampire who thinks everything is just a huge joke. I think its okay for me to be a little bitchy.”
He smirked and switched hands on the steering wheel. “You can be so dramatic sometimes.”
