Once we reached the park, everyone stayed silent. Demeter and I continuously looked at each other anxiously, waiting for the other to ask Oroshii the question that would help us understand what had just happened. After what seemed like hours, Demeter gave in.
She walked up to Oroshii and sighed heavily. “Who where they?”
Oroshii broke down in tears, something neither Demeter nor I had ever seen her do. She was a tom boy and almost everyone was afraid of her. She'd always won fights and must have been the toughest person I had ever met, so it was extremely awkward to see her soft side.
"Those were creatures not meant to live on Earth. They're bloodthirsty killers and evil assassins. Their only purpose in life is to kill anything and everything. They have no heart and don't feel compassion, love, or any of that........" A moment of silence whisked by. "I would know. They killed my parents," she said crying harder at the last sentence.
I walked over to her, feeling sorry for her family. But, it still didn't answer our question.
"So, what are they?" Demeter asked before I could.
Oroshii stopped crying. "They're inhuman things that shouldn't even be named", she whispered, in a just barely audible tone. I stared at her, not knowing what to say. I grabbed Demeter and walked away from Oroshii, so I could talk to her in private.
"Okay, I get that whatever those were killed her parents, but now she's just scaring me. And I don't think they can be as bad as what she says they are.....they didn't kill us and that one guy, Neeco, didn't seem to hard to hurt"
"Yeah, that's all good and stuff, but did you forget that they killed Phoenix and half his team? That right now they're probably ripped to shreds and being analyzed by medical facilities?!" Demeter shouted.
Suddenly, Oroshii started screaming at somebody. Demeter and I looked in her direction, meeting with a pair of deep dark eyes, which could only belong to Neeco. He was standing over Oroshii, holding her by her hair.
"Leave her alone!" I shouted lunging at him. When he was only inches away, I was sure I had him. But just as I was going to punch his stomach, something hit my side, sending me flying into a marble fountain.
I spat out the water and blood that filled my mouth and moved wet pieces of hair from my face. I opened my eyes and stared at my opponent straight into his hate filled eyes. They were fierce but the green color made them soften to just a glare. His blonde hair hid part of his face, and the darkness didn't help much, so I couldn't see the rest his face. Behind him, I noticed Demeter on the ground and unconscious. *Crap!* I quickly rolled over to the right of the fountain, and just as I did, the third boy's fist flew through the air and right were my head would have been. I scrambled out of the fountain and immediately turned around, ready to fight anyone who was too close. Neeco was standing next to the blonde haired boy, still holding Oroshii by her hair, and I couldn't find the other boy that tried to knock me out.
I frowned and stared at both of them, while keeping my attention on various sounds, hoping to hear wherever the third boy was. Bingo, I heard his footsteps behind me. He was walking normally and yet his steps could just barely be heard. When he was just about the right distance, I spun around, sending a kick to his side and his body to the ground. At that split second, the blonde boy attacked from the back, punching my head with incredible strength. I could hardly believe that my head didn't fly off my body as I sank to the ground and began losing consciousness.
No. There was no way I was going go give up, let alone die this way. If that was their intent, that is. I struggled to keep my consciousness and slowly started to stand up. But when I did, I could hardly see straight. What I could see though, where the shocked facial expression the three boys had. The one I had kicked was amazingly standing, even though I could have easily broken a few rib bones.
"I think it's time we call for drastic measures", the blondie whispered to the two.
Still fighting unconsciousness, I made my way towards the fir trees which outlined the rocky road of the park. I heard one of the three start running in my direction and, with my head overflowing with relentless pain, I picked up the biggest rock I could find just as the blonde boy grabbed me. His mouth went directly for my neck, but before he could do anything more, I hit his face as hard as I could with the rock. He screamed bloody murder as he threw me forward and covered his face with his hands.
I crawled into the nearest bush as the boy that tried to knock me out scurried over to the severely bleeding blonde.
"We got to go", the boy told an angry Neeco.
Still, holding Oroshii, he walked over to the blonde and put his hand on his shoulder. Then, they disappeared, darkness enveloping the very spot they had been. The boy who was left behind grabbed Demeter and looked around one last time. I guessed he left after that, since I finally gave in and I completely blacked out.
It's thrilling and quite amusing.
