Changing
My house, my family, shrunk to pinheads
Voices muted, crackes through plastic holes
Thunder reduced to whispers.
How I had grown.
I tried to shrink back,
Remembering being tiny, the house a vast, plentiful world
Bonds so loose I hardly knew they were there
A warming blanket, a milk embrace, a gently clean world from
Back when photos of me fit easily into albums,
How I had grown.
Bonds taut against my skin
Keys waiting obliviously in clutching pockets
With every day forcing the walls to press harder
Against me, spaceless, no room to stretch, fidget, twitch, relax
Jammed in like Alice
Grown past my convienient pocket size
Legs clumsy, arms uncoordinated
My head stuffed, ideas, commands
Thrust
Against the inside of my skull
Throbbing, buzzing, chattering, distant but insistant
My tongue no longer dealt only in happiness
A new power, to upset,
One I didn't know how not to use.
When we fought, my words reverberated,
Colossal, stinging like grazed skin
When I raged, I shook us apart
Ceilings, walls, our delicate treaties
To dust
Until they grew back
In time, crawling again over my face
A stifling ivy, over my mouth.
I couldn't shrink.
"I'd like to request a blessing"
I'm asking not for their permission,
But how sad to smash and tear and break
And leave rubble and hard feelings in my wake.
Eyes-refocused
Rose coloured mist cleared
My size gratefully revealed
Pockets emptied of keys, refilled with keepsakes
Their little leviathan taking a first shuffle,
A step, walk, hop, skip, leap away
"I promise I'll come home again one day"
-----
I did this for english, creative writing. we all had to submit them,
they were typed up and then we went through each one, what we liked and suggestions
for making it better. I was really pleased with the reaction to Leviathan, ^_^ everyone
seemed to really like it.
