(This is an epistolary from my writing class. Epistolary: series of journal entries between one or more people. )

September 13th, 2007
My dear pencil,
We have known each other for some time now. However, you are getting older and shorter. I’m sorry to say you aren’t as sharp as you once were. No matter how I try, you are turning more and more dull. What I’m trying to say is it’s time for you to go.
Sincerely,
Right Hand

Righty, old buddy,
Don’t leave me! Please, I’ll try to do better! So I’m not as good as a mechanical pencil, or...or a pen, but I still have my uses! Mechanical pencils can’t shade like I can. Don’t get rid of me, please. I’ll work hard; I’ll try to stay sharper!

Pencil, pencil, pencil…
We did have some good times. But, all good things must come to an end, so we must as well. It’s nothing personal, it’s just… well, I met a new pencil. Not a mechanical, no. This pencil is tall, sharp, and sparkly. He fits perfectly and… you’re not going to believe this, but he’s your son!

Right hand,
Are you daft? I don’t have a son! I have a daughter! What did you do to her? You fiend! I despise you now. Fine, get rid of me. I’d rather be tossed aside than be manhandled by the likes of you! Beast! Monster! Slave driver! Hand...
Signed, your ex-friend,
Pencil

Whoa there, pencil!
Who are you calling a monster? I’m not daft, you are! You have a son and a daughter! Did you not know you had twins? Oh my dear pencil, please be reasonable. We still have a while left together.

Uh, Mr. Pencil, and Mr. Right hand,
This is Left Hand here. I’ve intercepted your letters, and I think you both are psychotic. Right hand, you need to shut up and just let the pencil go. You aren’t always right! Pencil, you seriously need some mental help, go get some! Now stop your bickering!

Right hand, left hand,
Good-bye my old friends. I’ve found a place where I am wanted, so I’m departing now. Right hand, I will miss you even though you’ve thrown me aside like unwanted trash. Left hand, you’re doing better with writing; keep at it. I’m off to my new home now, the furnace.
Lots of love, Pencil

September 25th, 2007
Left hand,
He’s really gone, isn’t he? I sort of miss him now. This new pencil feels a bit awkward…oh well. At least we’ll always have each other!
Signed,
Right hand

September 25th, 2007
Right hand,
Touché! You will get used to the pencil. I know you will! I still think you’re a bit crazy. I will never leave you, though, and for once, you are right!
Yours truly,
Left hand
Ps. How about letting me practice writing again, please?

Haha, this is absolutely brilliant!! I've been scouring the internet for examples of epistolary for my first English Assignment of the year and now I've found one! Granted, it's not the type of thing I'd expect but still really brilliant. Extremely entertaining!! :D You could write a series of short stories like this, it would be wonderously entertaining to read.

Illa Ater Rosa **

P.S. Don't panic, I'm not going to use this as an actual example. I just needed to see how one would go about using epistolary in a story.

P.P.S. This is really really brilliant! :)

Yet the tiny Red Jewel would not stay
For Death could not keep such warmth in His breast
And this, to the boy, he did say"

Yes I loved it too! Really great work :) It wasn't at all what I expected and I found it incredibly entertaining.

Sorry I don't have any critique to give, I think it's great!
