Ringtones?

It would appear that I have attained a cell phone, through parental magnanimity and luck - malhereuxement, nobody will be getting the number until I start paying the long distance bills, which won't happen 'til I start work and so on. But that aside.

I am looking for some spiffy ringtones, because I'm one of those slightly unhinged people who like to give everyone in their contact list a unique one. Do you guys know of any decent sites where I might be able to download some (hopefully sans charge)?

If you want to do something free, I could possibly hunt down a way for you to do it, but I'll need to know your cell phone model. The only way I was able to do this was through bluetooth, although my phone type is very secure, so it took a lot of work to make my own ring tones.

Otherwise, everything costs. Making them is your best bet. Additionally, I'm looking forward to when you get that job and pay for the long distance bills. ^^ Although I was under the assumption that a cell phone doesn't charge long distance, but rather, how long you talk? and more cell phone companies have free evenings/weekends. You might want to look into it just to be sure.

What cell phone company are you working with?

Does your phone play .mp3s? I have a memory card so I can luckily transfer songs from my computer to my phone and select them as my ringtone.

Till: It's a Nextel Motorola, i850. A rather chubby little blob of a phone, but I like it anyway. ^^ You're right, about the minutes being the deciding factor of cost - it's what I meant to write. But my parents have allotted me 300 minutes max per month. Which is five hours a month. Bearing in mind that I have no landline and will be using this phone for every call everywhere (home, uni, work, etc.), I don't see how I'll be able to manage social calls until I get on my own plan...

Jack: I don't know? I can check. I'm extraordinarily technologically challenged, especially when it comes to phones, but I will be sure to look into it. Thanks!

You should look into whether you get free weekends because I would be incredebly surprised if you didn't.

Custom ring tones can be added, as the i850 supports mp3, WAV, and MIDI format files.

I found this on a web page, just through a quick search. It may be one of those phone that does require blue tooth, or that you can get a cable for. I'm still looking. ^_~ So Nextel is who you have the contract with?

EDIT:

Well I did some quick looking and I think the best thing for you to do would be to buy this and then you could transfer MP3 files (I would keep them to 15 or 30 seconds) and you should be able to set them as ring tones. You can also transfer .wav, and .midi format files. Your phone has computer connectivity, which is nice. This is the cheapest I found the cable for, and it should be a good company. You might want to look through ebay (I didn't) by searching for "Nextel motorola i850 USB cord" and you could end up getting an even better deal. It's not that much money compared to what you would pay to buy several ring tones, and is actually good. Most cell phone [companies] don't allow you to do this.

Also, your phone supports French and Portuguese! Mine only goes into Spanish. :P

Hope this helped! The above would be a lot easier than doing it how I do it - it takes a long time for me to convert files and so forth. I don't think I would be able to find a way to do it without the cord because the hardest part is transfer, and having a cord is the easiest.

jacko: what if the phone is an mp3 player, but doesn't have a memory card? mine is memory cardless, but plays mp3's and I have no idea how to get songs on there lol.

I'd never ever pay for a ring tone, they're so expensive! Mine connects up to my computer with a wire so I can move music from my computer to my phone. SO if you have one of them just download an MP3 and move it over =] otherwise it's a bit more complicated, lots of messing around with bluetooth (which you have to get a card for on the computer).

Try http://makeownringtone.com
It allows you to cut the part of the song you want as your ringtone and download it. Then transfer the ringtone from your computer to your phone via data cable or something similar.
