The Awakening by Katie Chopin

I wasn't really sure where to post this so I hope I was right by putting it here.
I am reading The Awakeing for school and I was wondering if any of you have read it because frankly I just can't get into! Maybe if I heard how some of you liked it, it would help me get through it.

I'm going to move this to book reviews actually. No worries! There are so many places to put things, hah.


Oy, I had to read The Awakening for my American Lit class. I wish I could tell you I loved it and so forth, but I hated it. I didn't even read all of it! And I'm a fervent literature person. It might be because I'm not big on the women literature, or the fact that she wrote the plot around the theme, so that it's boring, and nothing happens. I found it of no interest. I didn't care about any of her characters. But there are a few spots where good jokes were made!

Despite the fact that I didn't read it, I still had to do a project on Alcée. (I think that is how you spell his name?) Thankfully it was a group project, so that wasn't hard!

When you finish reading it, let me know. ^^ The ending was probably the best part (if you can call it that) because of the debate it brings up.

I couldn't finish it either. It got stale. I just had happened to pick it up and then I forgot about it. Sorry. I didn't quite like it either. SO I can't help you there.

I thought it was a pretty easy read, and I was indifferent to it overall.

The atmosphere made me feel good. The beach, beach houses, little cottages....d'aaww.

Thanks so much for your guys input. I have to answer a series of questions after every four chapters. The questions make you think deeply about the characters relationships and all, but I really don't care. Its all so... odd. We also have to read a Dolls house by Ibsen.
I mean I'm a big reader. Its actually my favorite thing to do, but I can't seem to just get into this book...

The Awakening is actually one of my favorite books ;]

I'll admit it can get pretty slow and dry at times, but the ending is one of the most spectacular I have ever read.

Just hold out...it'll get better. At least it did for me.

The Awakening is just hard for me because she wrote it so much around the theme of women's freedom rather than an actual plot. More idea than story, or characters... Although Alcée is fun. He's such a rake!

We also have to read a Dolls house by Ibsen.

I love A Doll's House so hopefully you will too! I don't remember it now, I just remember that I loved it a lot. Ibsen is great.

Awesome! I read the introduction which kind of gave the ending away, so now I'm sad....
But any way hopefully I enjoy A doll's house more because we have to make a poster on the polt and characters and such...

YAY
I am finished with this book! The ending was a little disappointing though.
