I think women as a group are more likely to join communities about things like writing. Men write, too, but men are less expressive. Women need to surround themselves with like-minded people.

Hmmm I wonder if Nate has stats on that.

It's really hard to tell, at any time, about how many users we have - discounting gender. People sign up, verify their account, then never come back! So it's strange.

What is really strange, is you would think the assumption would be made that someone is a girl, if you didn't check their gender. More often than not, I mistake people as guys. heehee

teehee! If I remember right, the official stat is that there's more girls than guys registered, but we have more active males than females. So! It kind of evens itself out.

Just as an example, the first mods were all male (I think, right Nate?) and when I became an admin, it was it Nate and Jack, and Bobo who did all the graphics! All male! So while there's more female users, the males tend to be more active.

Crazy, huh!

Of course, there's no telling who is lying about their gender. Not to mention we have a few oddball accounts that really shouldn't have a gender, like CCF and SPEW. *shrugs*

I've always noticed more female activity though. I am curious now.

I have noticed that I see much more female users than I do male ones, but like Adam said, you never know who is telling the truth. I can't believe that the male users are more active on the website because it hardly seems that way, but that is just based on what I've seen. I'm with Suzanne--I tend to think that the users I've never seen before or noticed their gender are guys. Which can been quite awkward and embarrassing while in chat... o.o

My boyfriend writes, but he hides it in a deep dark hole. :D I can get some of his beautiful songs and poems out of him sometimes, though.

But I agree with Professor Rabbit. Guys probably don't feel the need to talk about their writing as much.

That is true, but it's not usually difficult to figure out the truth. I'm pretty sure I know your gender now, just from taking a quick look at your blog.

Of course, I could also be wrong.

If I remember correctly, Nate said that there are slightly more girls than boys, but the guys tend to be more active, so the posts are split pretty much 50/50, male/female.
