Corrie 2:08 pm outside the locker room

He had smiled at me. And I, like an idiot, had smiled back. It had been involuntary. His smile had just made me want to smile. Whatever he was playing at had to stop, no matter if I did like him in return. I liked him a lot. I couldn't do this, I couldn't let myself get carried away. Whatever it was about that I liked, whatever it was that made me smile back, I had to ignore it.

An infatuation with Dr. Moreow could only lead to trouble and would not help my chances of being on the Cheif's "good intern" list. I needed to stop wearing my emmotions on my face and just focus on the job. I lagged behind again as we followed Dr. Morrow through the halls. Everything was so busy that I quickly found something else to put my mind on for the time being.
All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come of it.

Soryr if my typing is a little bit sloppy - I'm on someone elses keyboard still so my fingers keep hitting the wrong keys >.>

Lily West 2:00pm coming out of locker room with Morrow + other interns in that group
I was really glad when Dr Morrow found us outside the locker room, I'd been kind of worried about figuring out where he was. I stayed with hi and the other interns as we went down towards the emergency department. At least that's where I think we were going, I still didn't really know where exactly I was in the hospital. Well, I'd only been there one morning, I couldn't expect too much at all. I was quite happy just to follow Morrow now, leave the responsibility to him. I listened to what he said, closely.

Jeremy Raynor - 2:00pm - outside Daniel's room
I'd just caught Sydney staggering out of Daniel's room - and straight into the chief - but they didn't notice me as I steered around them and into his room. Daniel was flicking through a magazine and looking unconcerned, but I knew his history with Syd and figured he'd probably be a little bit bothered by it - even if he wouldn't show it to me.
"Hey, Danny," I said. After my little power nap I was feeling just a little bit better, enough that I wasn't about to fall down on the floor and have hysterics. I'd never figured out if he hated me calling him Danny or not, he sometimes showed signs of mild amusment. I have that effect on people a lot without meaning to. He patted the bed.
"Sit down," that wasn't funny. I wondered maybe talking to Syd had got to him, or maybe... maybe for once he was actually worried about his results. Did he feel worse than normal? "How bad is it?"
I explained to him that it wasn't really going to help him learn much, all I had with me was his blodo test results which weren't amazing, really. From what I could tell his body was tired. It startled and depressed me that he was the one looking at me with worry on his face, like I was the sick one. I must have looked like crap.

The nurse arrived with a wheelchair which I insisted he sat in. Daniel was stubborn, he'd push himself too far if he could. His coughing was stressing me out as well, I hated to see him when he was sick, but then I never really saw him when he wasn't.
"You were talking to Sydney back there?" I asked him as I wheeled him to the X-Ray department. He shrugged, non-commital, so I decided not to push it. "What are you jealous, Jer?"
"No." I realised my voice had come out a little bit too insistant. I liked Daniel, a lot, and I don't like many people all that much. But it wasn't like I was into him, not really. His flirtiness caught my off guard sometimes, mostly because I'd never even told him if I was into men or not, which meant he was either extremely perceptive or maybe he was just messing with me. Either way, he grinned at me, practically upside down looking at me from the wheelchair.
"Relax, huh?"
"Sorry. Bad day."
"I can see that."

We got to the X-Ray room without any issue, he laid down while the X-Ray people messed with it, clicking the machine clumsily up and down. I hung around, my eyes fluttering closed and then open again, sometimes an hour sleep is worse than no sleep at all. What a pain in the ass.
"I gotta go behind the screen," I told Daniel, he sighed,
"I know."
Like he hadn't had a million X-Rays and scans before, he knew the drill.
The machine clicked and whirred, like a printer or a photocopier and the scan went up on the TV screen.
"Print it for me?" I asked the technitian, who messed with some buttons, and then the x-ray buzzed out onto a tray. He handed it to me and I held it up to the light.
Huh. There was something there, I bit my lip, but it was hard to tell, the darks and lights were sort of... indicative of lung cancer. Damn. But I couldn't be sure, not yet, not completely. I'd have to put him through a CT scan first, just to make sure.

We went back to his room, quietly, but as soon as we closed the door he was on it
"So?"
"So it's not really good, but not really bad," I told him, closing my eyes. "I want to give you a CT scan just to make sure."
"It's cancer." It was a statement really, not a question, but I answered anyway.
"Maybe, but I mean it when I say I'm not sure yet."
I wouldn't talk like this to any other patient really, just him, because he knew the way it worked and I knew what he was about. I felt deeply sad suddenly, maybe a combination of the lack of sleep and my conversation earlier on with Chis earlier on, and then the churning worry of Daniel's results. I felt my eyes actually filling up, I tried to hide it but he probably saw. I bit my lip hard, forced it back. Ridiculous. I'm not a guy who cries often, or... ever really. What a day.

I'll leave it there for now =] Sorry for the delay too, I went out and bought some stuff <3

>>Oi, I'm feeling a bit lost. Hmm...I'm not quite sure what happened to Isabella. If anyone wants to post with her in it, so I have something for her to do?
>>Also, I have no idea where most people are, even after reading through I'm a bit lost, so if someone wants to jump in at the end here, I'd be very grateful!

Evan Kensington - 2:08 pm - First Floor Information desk

I headed down to the first floor, wondering if there was any free space in the schedule so I could squeeze Ava in. I was ready whenever she was.

I stopped at the information counter, running through the list of surgeries for the day. The one for 2:30 had been crossed out, but something else had been written over it. I couldn't read it very well.

"Excuse me, nurse, d'you know why this has been crossed through like this?" I pointed to the charts. Just then, someone else tapped me on the shoulder.

Rebbecca walked along the hall. Ouch, as a sharp object planted its self in her leg. The blood poured all over the dusty floor. She saw the cupboard near where she was sitting. She dragged her self in side so nobody could see. As she didn't want to scare the children.

'Why me' She cried, she hoped someone would find her as she had accdently locked her self in. 'SHIT!!!!' she shouted as she pulled the razorblade out of her leg.
Every rose has it's thorn..
Just like every night has it's dawn.

I've matured a lot and I realised it was time to come back.. for good!

>>If you want your intern or resident in the room, go ahead and place them there. The only one I am placing in is Lily West at the moment because she's the only one who said she wanted to be there. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you should probably read the DT.

Sydney Parker

She glanced down to her pager as it went off again--"ED". She turned it off and glanced back to Sugar-Beth, "This is going to have to wait."

Sydney turned and made her way down the hallway with Aaron and Emily. It was common for several doctors to be paged to the Emergency Department for one case, but usually it didn't involve the chief resident and another resident. But, none of them really seemed to be worried about as she made their way there, discussing the intern situation.

They arrived in the emergency area shortly, as Sydney's office was on the same floor. Heading straight to where all the attention seemed to be, the three pushed a few on-lookers out of the way and tried to speak over much screaming and clinking.

Emily glanced up to one of the interns, "What the hell is going on?"

The three looked on as several interns attempted to restrain a small, but powerful, blonde woman. Her defense was screaming and thrashing about that a child having a temper tantrum. She wasn't crying, she wasn't screaming any kind of pain cries--just screaming.

One of the interns, Lily West, looked up, while trying to hold one of her arms, yelling to be heard over the crazy woman, "Cops brought her in. Said she was running crazy in the streets. Were going to take her in but she was injured and she's got a good fever."

Aaron raised a brow and looked around for any sign of any kind of police officer, "Well were the hell are they?"

The same intern fielded the question, "Said they'd be back later."

Emily smirked and shook her head, mumbling just loud enough for Sydney and Aaron to hear, "Figures."

They watched for a few more moments as the interns failed to restrain the woman. With all her thrashing, they really weren't even sure how she was injured. She never stopped long enough for them to see.

Aaron almost smiled to himself as he watched them struggle, good training for a first day in his opinion. But, he wasn't allowed to enjoy it to much before Emily declared they would take over. She put down her clipboard on a tool table and nodded to Sydney and Aaron to follow her.

"Alright, alright. We'll take it from here!" Emily shouted over the crowd. The three of them slid infront of the interns and pushed them away. Emily stood on the left of the patients bed, closest to the door, and Aaron and Sydney on the right.

In the switch, in only a second or two, the woman was free. She saw it, she felt it--she took it. Before anyone could stop her or touch her, she reached down to her ankle, pulling up her jeans and pulling out a black .45mm handgun.

Waiving it at Sydney, Aaron and Emily as they crowded her bed. She stopped screaming and flailing, the room suddenly dead silent. She lowered her eyes, pointing her brows down in an evil stare at her captures. Not looking any of them in the eye, the woman pointed the gun at Emily, "Back" there was a pause in her deep, devilish voice, "up."

Emily's eyes grew big and for a moment she debated what to do--it wasn't as if this happened every day. She glanced to the interns, to Sydney, and to Aaron and nodded for them to do as told, doing so herself.

The interns seemed to squish themselves up against the wall as if, if they did so, they would disappear or somehow be safer. The woman pointed the gun to an intern closest to the door, "Close the door."

The intern, shaking and obviously nervous as could be, obeyed. Quietly closing the door, giving those standing outside it a look of absolute horror before shutting them from the world.

Gun pointed to Emily, yet again, the woman spoke her demands, "Close the blinds."

Emily turned around, having been standing directly infront of the blinds. There were a few screams of terror as the people outside the room scattered for fear of the gunman. Emily had faith that someone would let the front desk know the situation, but was not happy with closing the blinds--it was the only way to know what was really going on in the room. But, with a gun pointed her direction, she didn't really have much choice and pulled them down.

Oh, but one side, one side wasn't working properly. One side wouldn't go down all the way. Emily smiled and let a sigh of relief out. The broken side held itself up only about half an inch from the corner of the window. Enough to peak in and at least catch a glimpse of what was going on. But, not enough to see the entire room or anyone standing close to the window. Emily turned around, standing with her back infront of that section so the woman wouldn't notice at first--when she'd be most attentive about it.

"No one speak." She stated, waving the gun about the room, most of the staff standing infront of her--everyone but Sydney.

Sydney had been nearest the woman's left arm, on the right side of the bed, when the woman pulled the gun. To see her, the woman had to turn her eyes off everyone else. Sydney figured she had either decided that it wasn't worth the risk or had, in fact, forgotten her existance in the heat of the moment.

For a few moments, the woman was just silent, just moving the gun about the room, waiting to strike on movement. However, Sydney was being left out of the sweep. And, working in emergency quite often, she was very aware of what medications were always kept in the room medicine cabinet. One medication, in particular, struck her fancy right now...phenobarbitol. One shot, and within seconds the gunman would be limp, calm, and probably realize she has no idea where she is.

The cabinet was just a few feet behind Sydney. She slowly and silently shuffled backwards, keeping her eyes on the woman. Reaching the cabinet, she bent down sideways and slid the door open, glancing back and forth between the viles she was picking up and the woman. It took a few, but she finally found the phenobarbitol.

"Hey!" The woman yelled. Sydney jumped and stood straight up, the bottle still in her hand and a gun pointed directly at her. "What do you think you're doing?"

Sydney raised her hands a bit to show she was unarmed, only held medication. The woman held the gun with both hands, not moving it from Sydney's direction, "Put it down."

Sydney did as she was told, setting the bottle on the countertop above the med cabinet. She glanced back up, putting her hands back in the air. The gun was still on her, now she wasn't trusted. Now she was worth the risk.

Emily stood behind the woman, looking from the gun to Sydney. She knew this was her chance, when she wasn't paying attention to the rest of them. Sydney turned her attention to Emily without nodding or otherwise okay her decision. Emily, however, was the one who nodded to show she was going to do what she had to do--the only okay she had was the look in Sydney's eyes. Sydney knew this was the way it had to be, she knew it was better to put one person in danger than an entire group, and she was okay with it.

Sydney watched, things moving in ultra-slow motion, as Emily jumped forward and grabbed the gun in the womans hands. But, the woman wasn't giving it up--Emily wasn't either. There was only a half second of struggle before the gun went off. The sound rang throughout the emergency department--another absolute silence.

It would be a few seconds before Sydney understood what happened. The entire room stared her direction, and she watched while Emily let go of the gun and let it stay of the woman's possession. Honestly, Sydney was a bit confused by her actions...she had it right there, why in the world would she let it go?

But, it occured to her slowly as a pain began to ring from her stomach. She lowered her hands to her abdomen, pressing into it as if it were a horrible stomachache and no more. But, it was wet. Confused, she pulled her hands away--red, blood. She fell back onto the ground, pain only growing as the shock wore off.

**Oi, ignore my last post because I completely didn't check the DT, etc etc. I'm going to put Isabella in the room, just to get her into the story a bit. I hope that's okay, because she's not an intern or resident...if not, just give me the word.**

Isabella Milan

I stared in utter dismay as Sydney fell to the ground.

My first instinct, while most of the interns just stood there, was to move forward and help her.

"Don't move," the woman said, the gun now pointed directly at me. I paused, a few steps in front of the others.

"Please, just let me help Sydney." I said, keeping my voice level. The woman eyed me closely, and nodded once. I had the feeling she didn't want to kill anyone. As soon as I was given the okay, I fell to my knees next to Sydney, pulling back her shirt so I could examine the gun wound.

As the air touched it, Sydney gasped, moving slightly. I didn't want to ask any of the others to move, in case someone else got shot. Instead, I moved to the cabinet, which had been left slightly ajar, and pulled out a roll of bandages and a bottle of some pain killer that I knew could be injected into Sydney's arm.

Taking a syringe as well, I quickly set to work.

Evan Kensington

As the doctor's all began moving toward ED, I realized something had to be wrong.

I joined the crowd just as Emily closed the door.

"What's going on?" I asked the person standing next to me, one of the new interns. I didn't bother reading his name tag right then.

"Some crazy woman. She came in and was acting pretty weird, and then she pulled out a gun and made all the others go in there. I don't know what's going on now.

Then we heard the gun shot.

People around me screamed, some of them burst into fits of tears. I froze.

Where was Sydney?

Emily Jane Darcy.

Emily watched silently as Isabella began work on Sydney. Her hands clenched at her sides and her cheeks hurt from the pressure of her pressed teeth. Isabella knew what she was doing, but Emily didn’t like the ease with which the patient – captor – had let her move. It begged for something bad to happen, not that bad things hadn’t already happened, but now they would get worse. She was comforted by the crack in the blinds. It was only low visibility but it was something.

She was transfixed with Sydney’s lips. They drained so quickly and were left a pale, dusky pink. Her skin was pale as well, but her lips were touched with the lightest pink that it was almost as if she’d powdered them beforehand. That would be convenient, Emily’s head twitched slightly as she laughed at herself internally, if it were all just a play put on. But it wasn’t and one of her people was lying on the ground in immense pain because of her mistake. This had to be rectified.

With a flick of her head Emily was watching the patient; her breaths came in huffs and Emily could see some of the fatigue from her injuries and the stress of the situation, in the woman’s face. Her gun hand was raised but trembled as she eyed off Isabella.

It was a swift movement that Emily might have missed, had she not been watching the woman directly, as the patient turned on her heel and thrust the gun point in Emily’s direction.

“Move the hell away from that door. “ She might have had a beautiful face, this woman, but the sneer of her lips stole the character from it. Emily blinked at the woman and slowly took one step forward and stopped.

She felt like smirking at the woman, just pushing her a little bit more until she was wild enough to take down. But the earlier incident was something to learn from; heroics were to be avoided. Her eyes scanned the room, quickly making a mental list of the patients and staff and their possibly usefulness in the situation. Aaron might be her best bet for use. Thank God they’d been together when the pages came through; senior members should always be somewhat useful.

The woman’s hand wavered as she stepped in Emily’s direction. “I told you to get the hell away from the door. Not screw about day dreaming. Move your arse.” Emily stepped another few centimeters away from the door, now watching the woman intently.

“You should get your injury looked at.” The woman didn’t look impressed at her input and just waved the gun, indicating Emily further forward. Emily chose to stay where she was. “It’s not pretty looking. You could be seriously hurt. You’re certainly not in your right senses.”

The woman’s eyes flared. “Shut. The. Hell. Up.”

Emily raised her eyebrow, not moving from her position but keeping silent. Her back still faced the window and she hoped, like there was no tomorrow, that Des was out there and could see the dramatic hand gestures she was trying to show.

The woman stepped closer, her grip on the gun stronger so that the gun no longer wavered. Emily kept her eyes from flicking to Aaron, but she hoped the crazy idiot was thinking of something sensible to do with the patients and interns, at least. They couldn’t be left there cowering in the corners. Well, not safely, anyway.

Under the white glow of the Emergency’s lights, Emily looked into the eyes of the mad patient and kept her ground. This was her place of work and her people; this stupid woman was not going to waltz in here as if she owned the place.

Gun or no gun, she had to go.
I like you as an enemy, but I love you as a friend.

Hey this is pretty exciting! I'm a bit confused as to whether the interns are there in the room but I think they are so... if I'm wrong then this is just totally useless ^_~

Lily West
I stood very still and kept myself as calm as I could, just because freaking out would be unhelpful. I guess that's something that makes me a good doctor, I can keep my head and not panic at the slightest provocation. This was a bit more than slight provocation but never the less, I was standing and thinking rational thoughts. Everyone else seemed...not too bad either. I was a bit surprised. Back in med school there had been plenty of people who would have freaked right out but these guys were almost relaxed.

I'd never actually seen a gun before, I don't honestly know how often a person sees a gun in America, but I'd been here a week and already here I was. I guess guns being illegal back home people don't wave them about so much, they're a lot harder to get your hands on. It was big news back home if someone was shot, not just another normal killing.

I kept my eye on the woman, trying not to look at her too much in case she noticed me, latched onto me. Dr Parker was on the floor still, her eyes fluttering, lips pale. The gunshot, the sound of it, had hit something animal inside me that made me terrified. I wanted to run but...rational thought and all that. No running, just standing still and waiting to be killed or released. Amazing how one person with one little piece of machinery could wield so much power.

Dr Milan stayed hunched over Dr Parker, I stayed backed against the wall, while the cazy gunwoman ocncentrated on keeping the residents in check. She didn't seem too interested in the interns, she must have seen we were less of a threat.

**Wow, things are getting really exciting!**

Kelly

I was shocked. I certainly wasn't expecting anything like this on my first day. Everything was a blur. If I wasn't numb with shock I probably would be screaming. The gunshot woke me up a bit though. I screamed, but it was so short the woman didn't hear it over the noise. Dr. Parker fell to the ground. I didn't really know her much at all, but I started quietly crying to myself as Dr. Milan rushed over to help. If I wasn't smashed between everyone else, I probably would have tried to run out the door. Why did this have to happen? I asked myself. I'm not ready to die yet!
I will review for you! PM about it if you need one!

Daniel; 2:25pm; private room.

He'd never seen Jeremy cry before and it touched him deeply. These really were the closest friends he had. He turned away and walked slowly to the window. Give the man a chance to find his dignity, Dan. This is hurting him as much as it's hurting you.

When Daniel turned again, Jeremy's face was the smooth, impassive face of a doctor who has delivered this news a thousand times before, even if not to such a close friend. And Daniel was grinning.

"So then, Ray, what are the perks of this illness? What can I expect? Lots of ice-cream?" Daniel pushed a boyish playful-ness back into his voice and smiled hopefully. Jeremy couldn't help but laugh.

"Not this time, Dan but you should get to stay in bed a lot and I'll have to see if I can do something about your cough." Daniel smiled fondly.

"Thanks Ray, I always did like sleeping." Daniel walked back to is bed and laid down, closing his eyes to justify the statement but he was tired and the bed was soft and he must have drifted to sleep because suddenly he was jerked awake by a loud gun-shot.

"What was that?" Daniel sat up to find that Jeremy was still in the room, sat on the edge of his bed, a look somewhere between shock and horror now on his face. Daniel strode to the door and pulled it open,

"Where did it come from?" he demanded.

"I'll go find out," Jeremy decided.

"We'll go find out," Daniel corrected, leading the way out of the room.

Roxanne; 2:45; Office.

Roxanne's first emotion at the sound of the gun-shot was irritation at yet another distraction from her work and then the sound penetrated her brain. Gun shot? In the hospital? She stood abruptly and hurried down the hall, finding it empty at every turn. She arrived at the information desk where a huddle of people were hanging around. She raised her voice.

"Where's the incident and how is it being dealt with?" Roxanne demanded. She received the jumbled answer that it quite literally wasn't being dealt with and that a group of interns and residents and possibly some more senior staff were all trapped in a room with a maniac.

"Call the police," Roxanne instructed firmly. She hurried down to the room, pushing through the throng of people outside. She found Evan right next to the door.

"What's going on?" Roxanne demanded in a hushed voice.

"I don't know," Evan said shaking his head. Roxanne nodded her understanding and then turned to face the throng of people all standing or sitting aimlessly, horror struck.

"Don't you all have patients to see to?" she asked in a level voice. There was a rather stunned silence so Roxanne started shooing people, asking them briefly what they should be doing and telling them to go do it. "If nothing else, go reassure your patients," Roxanne ordered. And then she turned back to the door to find Evan still there, trying to listen in.

"A stethoscope would give you a better chance," Roxanne said sternly. "Come on, Evan. Set a good example." He didn't move.

"Sydney might be in there," he said quietly. Roxanne blinked. Sydney? Sydney and Evan? He didn't even seem to realise the significance of this, so desperate he was through worry. "Go and wait for the police at the front, that's the best you can do," Roxanne said, almost kindly. "And on your way you can help me shoo the zombies who are hanging around the desk."

Jeremy Raynor
I give Danny his due, he's a better liar than I am. He turned away from the window, his smile a perfect replica of a real smile. I laughed along with him, watched him fall asleep, forgetting any inclination to go do something else, treat some other patient. But he only managed to sleep for minutes anyway. The gunshot tore into my consciousness, shocked me out of daydream.
"What was that?"
I didn't know, a shot, from not too far away. The ER? Damnit, why did I come into work today.

We found a gaggle of people hanging around looking stressed out and anxious. The rest of the place was like a ghost town, what had we missed an evac? There were still some doctors scurrying around in the Emergency Department though, ushering confused patients out into the rain. I sidled over to Roxanne and Evan. Daniel following me slowly. I wondered how easy it was for him to move around - probably not so easy really, his chest must have been tight.
"What the hell's this?" I asked her, she shrugged at me.
"Some patient's gone batshit."
"With a gun?Not good."
"No."
Evan looked distracted.
"Raynor, did you see Sydney?"
Daniel peered round me, "she was talking to me, earlier on."
Evan looked sore for a minute, then worried again. What was this, now?
"Did she come down here?"
"I don't know."

I stared at the locked up room from afar. Was she in there? More to the point, shouldn't we be getting out of here? Just as I was thinking that I heard a voice, like the voice of someone who knew what they were doing.
"All of you, you have to get out of here." I turned to see a guy in uniform, no more than one guy, all coming through the door like ants. Someone had called them then.

Sydney Parker - 255pm - patient room 147

Sydney cringed a bit, but there were no tears. She wasn't really the crying-while-in-pain type...though, she wasn't really sure what that meant. Isabella Milan leaned over her a bit, putting pressure on her gunshot wound with some gauze--that did not feel good, for sure, but it was necessary.

With her experiences in the ER, she knew how things would go with a gunshot wound. Meaning she also knew that no amount of pressure would completely stop the bleeding, but it would certainly slow it. Sydney had a small, petite frame and she was aware of her limits and it's reactions--it wouldn't take too much longer before the blood loss drained her energy. She was already feeling a bit chilled. But Sydney was a fighter, and she'd hold out as long as possible.

Isabella was sitting silently next to her, but Sydney glanced up to Emily. She wasn't sure why, but in all honesty she had wished it were Emily helping her and not Isabella. It was a completely illogical thought, as Isabella certain had much more experience and expertise than Emily, and Sydney knew there was nothing either one could do other than was Isabella was doing without the use of other equiptment not available to them within this room. But, all in all, Syd knew Emily better and at that moment that was all that mattered.

There was an erie silence about the room, the hall, the entire emergency department as Sydney pressed one hand on the floor and pushed herself up and back a bit to lean in the corner of the wall. Isabella moved with her, but Sydney placed her other hand on the gauze beneath Isabella's, three hands were always better than two. Had she been more awake, she would have cocked her head to the side like a dog in question as she glanced back to Emily, wondering what she had up her sleeve. And to Aaron, whose eyes were squinted in what Sydney could only hope was thought.

Sydney kept one arm straight, hand planted on the ground as she leaned against the light blue walls of room one hundred forty-seven. She understood the importance of the situation, and she would not jeopardize it by speaking.

Daniel; 3:00; outside patient room 147

Sydney...

"I'm going to have to ask you to move," the policeman insisted as his men took up positions around the door, leveling their guns towards it and distantly, the sound of marching feet around the perimeter of the building could also be heard. Sydney... Daniel didn't move. His chest was burning and his stomach was writhing; he was bent over, breathing hard.

"Dan," Jeremy was trying to pull him out of the way and one of the officers joined the struggle, pushing Dan with a firm hand towards some seats much further down the corridor.

"Try to keep them moving," he murmured before returning to the door. Them... Daniel calmed his breathing and looked around, noting that Roxanne had a rather firm, reassuring grip on Evan's shoulder.

"Get him up," Roxanne said gruffly to Jeremy. "We're going to the lounge for coffee. And then you're going to take your patient back to his room." She frowned, disapproving, even though she knew the history with Dan. And then she led the way, pushing Evan in front of her to make him move.

"What if Syd's in there?" Daniel wheezed, looking back over his shoulder to where the police were preparing to attempt entry.

"She's a level headed woman and will no doubt handle herself better than the rest of you," Roxanne insisted.

They arrived at the lounge not much later to find that it was filled with doctors, interns and patients. Many of them looked to the door as they entered, hoping for news.

"The police have arrived and are dealing with the situation. There have been no other developments," Roxanne said firmly, staring around until they had all averted their gazes. She persuaded the people sat around the table closest to the door to move further into the room and then went to get the coffee.

"I didn't realise Roxy was such a tough cookie," Daniel joked feebly.
