I am Twiggy, 17, write mostly poetry. I try my hand at short stories, but they usually have no plot to speak of, lol

Have been wanting some good, constructive criticism on my work. A friend of mine I know from another site recently joined here and showed me one of his posts, and I was so impressed by how friendly and helpful the members are :D I am really looking forward to getting involved.

Thanks for reading!

Hullo Twiggy. ^_^ Welcome to YWS. It is a brilliant--perfect place to read good writing as well as get good comments on works-in-progress.

Have you got a favourite poet? Favourite writer? As far as poetry goes, Emily Dickinson and Gerard Manley Hopkins are great.

Anyhow, if you've any questions, feel free to PM me. And welcome again.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Suzanne: Thanks, harsh is good, I agree. And believe me, my poetry needs the harshness! lol

IMP: I adore Emily Dickinson. :D In fact there is much Dickinsonian (??) influence in my poetry: I use a lot of 4-line stanzas, abcb rhyme scheme, etc. However I do not yet parallel her literary genius...mastery with words... :( I don't really have a favorite author...just any one who's good! I like a good mystery story, or sometimes the teenage-angst stuff lol.

Jamie: Yeah, it makes it not as awkward, when you already know someone on the forum. Thanks for the warm welcome

Oy, but I'm sure even Emily Dickinson had to start out at not-quite-genius stage. ^_^ Her poetry is brilliant though. Have you read Sherlock Holmes then, as far as mystery? Or more modern things? Agatha Christie is rather fun. ^_^

Yeah, I've read one Agatha Christie novel (can't remember the title at the moment) and I think a movie based off one of her works...I've also read many Sherlock Holmes stories, I love that twist at the end, and watching how Holmes figures out all that stuff just by looking at people!

That's true, I'm sure she had an awkward writing stage....(don't we all?) I would love to talk to her, like if I could go back in time and talk/write to someone, she would be one of my top 10.

Sherlock Holmes? Cool! How many have you read? Is your name intentional?

About the lack of plot in a short story, there is most likely a forum on here that addresses this and it should help. If you need anything or have any question, feel free to PM me anytime. I will help you out as best I can, Twiggy. Have a great time on the site and meet some new people. It's always good to have more friends.

There is a lot to look at on here, and I haven't really had time to poke around. Where do you suggest I start first? The tips for writers looks interesting, I need all the tips I can get...

:)

casey kent: Thanks for the warm welcome. This forum seems fabulous.

TL G-Wooster: I think I've read a lot, have a huge hardback book full of Sherlock Holmes stories...How many did Doyle write? My name? Twiggy, yes, it was a nickname a long time ago, I am very skinny...Lol. Your nick seems pretty interesting as well... ?

cookie pirate: Hey Chelsi, thanks, I hope to be friends as well!

Alainna: Haha, what kind of cookies? Ohh, FAQs, Im going to check those out...

Church: Thanks, yeah it is. I will go see if I can find anything about plot...or lack thereof...

Hello Twiggy!

Welcome to the site! As you can see and have already seen, the people here are very nice and helpful. So you're in good hands :) This is the best place for getting critique, talking and fitting in. And yeah, the FAQ's great.

You're already started here at Welcome forum, and after that the best place could be... yeah, Writing Tips. I guess. There are some good tips there, I've noticed :D

Ooh, by the way. You may already know this, but remember post at least two reviews before your own work. That way you won't have any YWSers getting to your neck. Haha. :D

Well, I hope you'll find this site very satisfying and have an extra good time here! You can PM me anytime you want and ask for anything you can think of, I'll be glad to help you all I can!

All the best,
Demeter xx
