Memories so soon
It seemed like it would be an average day, waking up, getting dressed, the same routine every morning. But fate had other plans for us.

I woke up at my usual time, and did what I normally did, got dressed, made my bed, and got ready for school. I was a good kid, always put forth a good effort in school, stayed away from drugs and drinks. I ran downstairs and got my typical breakfast, which consisted of pop tarts, and orange juice. I soon finished and waited for my bus. Soon enough it arrived, I got on and sat in my usual place, near the back. I put my headphones on, and entered my own little world. Music had that effect on me it took me away. But it wasn’t as though I wasn’t happy, because I was; I just enjoyed getting away from things, anything at all. I was looking out the window when I felt someone tap me on the arm. I looked over. My heart skipped a beat. I had never seen eyes so blue as his were. His hair was messy, but he pulled it off better than anyone else.
“Is this seat taken?” he asked me. I slightly shook my head, and he sat down.

“My name is Alex, what’s yours?” he asked.

“Um, it’s uh, it’s…” I honestly couldn’t remember my own name. I must have sounded so smooth.

“Danielle?” He said to me. That rang a bell, but how did he know? Understanding my confusion, he gestured towards my bag that had my name, address etc. on it. I had a tendency to lose my things, and when I lost my bag for the third time, I decided it was time to put my name on it, so it could find its way back to me. I finally gathered up some composure and spoke.

“Are you new or something? I haven’t seen you before.” I asked him.

“Yeah actually, I just moved here.” He told me.

“Oh really, where are you from?”

“New York.”

“Wow, that’s quite a distance away.”

“Yeah it is.”

“Well, change is good right?” I said.

“Yeah, but I would prefer a change of height, or a new hair colour, not a new
country Haha.” I giggled, and smiled at me, which made my cheeks redder
than anything.

“You have a cute laugh.” He told me. Which of course made my cheeks go
even redder, if that was possible.

“Thanks. You have a really cute smile.”

“Why thank you. It’s a curse really. I mean it attracts all of these females. I just don’t know what to do with myself.”

“Yeah, I can see how that would be such a dilemma for you.”

“I think you’re the only one to understand my serious dilemma! Everyone else just brushes it off.”

“How inconsiderate of them!” I said with a laugh.

“Exactly. So um when we get to school, want to show me where I’m going?”

“Yeah sure, do you have a schedule?”

“I sure do!” He said, and rummaged through his bag. He pulled out a crumpled piece of paper and handed it to me.

“Oh wow, you have some good classes.”

“No kidding? Any with you?”

“Um, yeah last period. We have English together.”

“You weren’t kidding then.”
“Kidding about what?”

“Having good classes.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well if I have one with you, then clearly it’s going to be a good class.” I turned my face away from him to hide my blushing cheeks.

“You’re really cute you know.”

“And you’re really sweet.” I looked over at him, and he had a huge smile stretching from ear to ear. There was something about him that made my stomach fill with butterflies; it made my palms sweaty, and legs sort of numb. I had never had this feeling before. I didn’t understand it. We had just met. How could I be falling for someone that I know nothing about? Not before long we arrived at school. The bus slowly emptied and kids were walking over to friends, laughing with each other, complaining about school. Alex and I walked together, and I showed him where his locker was. He opened his locker, and emptied out most of what was in his bag.

“Okay, now where to?” He asked me.

“Well, let’s see. Your first class is history, so that’d be this way.” I said, and started walking. He closed his locker, and ran to catch up beside me.

“So what do you have now?”

“Um, drama, which is right down the hall from your class.”

“You take drama? Are you going to be an actress or something?”

“Oh no, I’m taking it more for the performing part. I either want to do something in journalism or dance, so it wouldn’t hurt to take drama y’know?”

“You dance?!”

“Yeah, I’ve been dancing my whole life.”

“Wow. That’s really hot haha.” He said with a smile. I felt my face getting hot, and quickly turned away from him.

“Well, this is your class.”

“Alright. So um, want to meet after this class and help me to my other ones?”

“Oh sure, I’ll wait right here for you.”

“Cool. Kay, see you later.”

“Okay. Good luck!”

“Haha thanks, I’ll need it.” With that I walked down the hall to my class. I saw my best friend Jonny coming down from the other side of the hall.

“Danni!” he yelled down the hall.

“Jonny! How are you?” Jonny had been my friend for as long as I could
remember. We were like brother and sister. As long as I can remember he
had always been there for me, no matter how stupid it was, he was always there to help, even if it meant just listening to me rant on about nothing.

“Oh I’m good. How are you?”

“I’m go-“

“Who was that guy you were with?”

“When?”

“This morning, I saw you two walking together.”

“Oh he’s some new kid. I met him on the bus, and he asked me for help
getting around.”

“You like him don’t you?”

“What? Don’t be crazy, I don’t even know him.”

“That may be the case, but it doesn’t change the fact that you have a thing
for him.”

“How would you know that I liked him?”

“Because you haven’t stopped smiling since I mentioned him.” I hadn’t even
noticed that I had been smiling. I walked by Jonny and entered the class.

“You do like him! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!”

“Jonny! Shush. Not now, okay?”

“Okay, but seriously, I want to hear all the details at lunch okay?”

“Well, I’ll probably be eating with him at lunch, and that would most likely be a
little on the awkward side to talk to you about him.”

“Yeah maybe. So then we’ll talk tonight.”

“Mhm, I’ll call you after school.”

“How about I just come on the bus with you, and we’ll hang at your house.
Maybe order pizza, watch movies, talk about you and your lover boy, and
maybe I’ll let you in on a little secret of mine.”

“What secret?”

“Okay class, settle down!” Our teacher said.

“I guess I will just have to come to your house after school to let you in on
this secret. But I’ll give you a hint, it has to do with Marissa.”

“Marissa? The girl you’ve had the hots for since like third grade?”

“That’s the one.”

“You two! Quiet!” Our teacher yelled at us.

“I’ll tell you later.” Jonny whispered to me. I nodded.

The class seemed as though it would never end. Jonny was
right. I was falling for him, but how was that even possible? We had just met.
I knew next to nothing about him except that he moved here a few days ago, and had one the cutest smiles that I had ever seen. I found myself becoming increasingly excited as the class neared its end. Even though we’d only be spending the few short minutes, it took to get to the next class, with him, I was still happy. I looked to the other side of the classroom, and saw Jonny looking at me with a big grin on his face. He put his hands together to form a heart, and gave me a wink. I knew then that my excitement must have been showing.

Soon enough my class came to an end. I don’t think that I’ve ever run out of class so fast in all my life. I was right outside just in time for when Alex came out.

“Hello there.” He said to me.

“Hey, how was your first class?!”

“It was okay. Kind of boring, and kind of lonely, but I guess that’s expected on
the first day since I don’t know anyone yet.”

“You have a pretty optimistic look on life, you know that?”

“Haha I guess I do.”

“Shall we get you to your next class?”

“Indeed, we shall.” We started walking down the hallway. I noticed a lot of
girls eyeing him while we were walking. It kind of made me a little upset. I
had never though much of myself. Jonny had always went out of his way to
make me feel more comfortable in my skin, but this situation made all his
efforts somewhat go to waste.

“Is something wrong?” Alex asked me. I always had a tendency to wear my
emotions on my face.

“What? Oh nothing at all, I’m just kind of tired.”

“I guess drama will do that to you. History is also notorious for it. I rarely can
get through a single class without drifting off to sleep.”

“Haha. I actually don’t mind it.”

“Really? Are you like one of those kids who actually stays awake and does
her homework?”

“Haha, no not at all.”

“You’re so lying.”

“Okay, yeah I am. My parents will hound me if my grades go down, plus I
want to get into a good school. Oh man, I must sound like such a loser to
you.”

“Oh no way. It’s nice to meet a girl who actually cares about her future
instead of a girl who just parties, and sleeps with guys like me. Although
those girls are great, I mean they’ve kept me entertained haha.”

“So I take it you’re one of those guys who’s a major partier right? And has a
ton of one night stands?”

“I don’t really want to say.”

“How come?”

“Never mind. So where’s my class?”

“Just up there.”

“Okay, awesome, meet me after and we’ll go to lunch?”

“Sure, I’ll be there.”

“Sweet, see you later!”

“Yup.” I said and walked the other way to my class.

“Hey!” I heard someone behind me say. I turned around and found it was my
twin brother, Chris.

“Oh hey. I thought you weren’t coming today? I thought you were going to
spend the day with that new girlfriend of yours.”

“Yeah, well she bailed.”

“Are you serious? Aw, that’s so shitty, I’m really sorry.”

“Nah, don’t worry about it. So how come you look so down?”

“Oh no reason, I’m just tired.”

“Uh huh.”

“I am!”

“Okay Danni, whatever you say.”

“Well I’m late for class, and so are you, so I’ll see you later.”

“Okay. Wait are you taking the bus home?”

“Well, how else would I be getting home Chris? Flying? Teleporting?”

“Funny. I don’t I was just asking. Tell mom that I’m not coming straight home
after school, I’m going to Charlie’s house.”

“Okay, I’ll tell her.”

“Kay. See ya.”

“Bye.”

I sat in my next period class thinking about what I was going to
do about this Alex situation I was in. If it even was a situation. It was more of
a stupid crush, which was soon to fall downhill. I didn’t stand a chance. It
was only the first day of school for him, and already he had girls oozing over him. How could he even notice me? I really needed to stop thinking about this because it was only bringing me down. I decided to just focus my attention on my work, and not to think about this thing I had gotten myself involved in. The class seemed to go by faster than I really wanted. It was interesting how I could go from absolutely dying for class to end so I could see him, to dying for class to never end so I didn’t have to face the realization that I stood no chance. The bell rang and I collected my books and walked out of class.

I wasn’t going to just leave him hanging, so I walked to his class. Plus I didn’t want it to be obvious that I was falling for him. I saw him coming out of his class talking to Kayla, one of the easiest girls in school. But I just held my head high and put a smile on my face. He looked over in my direction and waved excitedly. I waved back as I walked over to him.

“Hey!” he said to me.

“Hello. How was class?”

“It was a lot better than the first class! I met this girl who’s so funny and
outgoing. We’re going out for lunch!”

“Oh. Nice. Have fun.” I said and walked away.

“Hey! Wait up!” he ran up beside me and grabbed my arm.

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh nothing, I just thought we were going to have lunch together, but it’s
okay, I’ll just look for Jonny or Chris or someone. It’s cool.”

“Oh my god! I’m such an idiot! I totally made plans with you and messed
them up. I’m soo sorry, I’m eating with you.”

“No, it’s fine, honestly. Go with her. She’s pretty, from what I saw she seems
to like you, so go for it.”

“Nope. I’m staying with you. You’re prettier than her anyway.”

“Thanks, but flattery will get you no where.”

“Psh. It gets me everywhere.”

“Ha. We’ll see.”

“I’m going to the bathroom, so I’ll meet you at our lockers?”

“Okay.” I said, and headed towards my locker. Jonny was there waiting for
me.

“Hey there.” I said to him.

“Hey.”

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I just realized I have no one to eat lunch with, and just now I
remember that you’re having lunch with your new boy. So this seems kind of
pointless to be here and now I’ll be leaving.”

“No! You can eat with us. I’m not letting you eat alone.”

“I don’t wanna mess things up for you two though!”

“Don’t even worry about it okay?”

“Okay, but don’t get mad at me when I stop you two from doin’ it on the
lunchroom table. Hahaha.”

“Jonny!”

“Don’t deny it you little hoe bag hahahaha.”

“Oh my gosh you have got to get your mind out of the gutter you weird kid.”

“Haha, it’s been there for too long. It’s happy in the gutter. Oh hey, he’s
coming.” I quickly glanced and saw him coming over with a big smile on his
face. Sure enough my face was becoming beat red, so I pretended to be
busy in my locker. Alex came up behind me, put his arms around my waist
and gave me a hug. I thought I was going to pass out. My legs felt shaky, not
to mention my face must have been past the red stage, it must have been
turning purple.

“Hey there cutie,” he whispered to me.

“Oh hey there, ready for lunch?”

“I sure am, I’m starving!”

“Alright, well let’s go!”

“Ahem.” Jonny said.

“Oh my gosh, I’m sorry. This is my best friend Jonny, Jonny this is Alex, he’s
new here.” They shook hands.

“Hey Jonny.”

“Hey there.”

“Well let’s get moving.” I said. We started walking towards the cafeteria.

“So how are you liking school so far Alex?”

“It’s not bad. You’ve got tons of babes here so it makes the whole education
thing a lot better haha.” Alex said as winked at me. Which of course made
me smile, and blush. I really needed to get that checked out. It can’t have
been healthy to blush so often.

“Yeah, that’s what keeps me here, the amount of babes here. Too bad none
of them will get with you. They’re all stuck up except like three, but those
ones are easy, and I like a challenge. Sooo, I just ignore those ones.
Hahaha.”

“I haven’t had any problems scoring the chicks, I’ve already gotten like 5
numbers, and I’ve only been here for like two periods.” Jonny shot a
concerned look at me, and saw that my smile had faded.

“Oh really? Lemme see them, I’ll tell you if they’re worth it.”

“Okay.” Alex said, and handed Jonny a pile of scrap pieces of paper. Jonny
started looking through them.

“Nope, Lame, Saggy, ew don’t go there, and well she’s easier than guitar
hero on easy mode. Keep looking though, I’m sure there’s one near by who’d
be perfect for you, but don’t forget to come to me first before you make any
rational decisions.” Jonny said and shot me a little smile.

“Damn, I thought they’d be good ones. But oh well, I’m sure you’d know
since you seem like such a ladies man ahaha. I’ll definitely come to you for
approval. I mean god forbid I sleep with the wrong slutty girl!”

“Exactly.”

The day went on a lot better after Jonny, Alex and I had lunch.
Jonny really knew how to work things out, and make them to my advantage. We all took the bus home. It was a fun ride, all three of us laughing having a good time. My stop soon came and Jonny and I got off.

“He’s so tripping over you.”

“What? What does that even mean?”

“It means he likes you idiot.”

“What!? No he doesn’t, there’s no way.”

“Does he have your number?”

“Yeah, but that’s only because we have a class together, and I thought if he
needed help he should have my number so he could call me or something.”

“Oh Danni, Danni, Danni. You are just so naïve and oblivious. It’s actually
quite cute how clueless you are.”

“What are you talking about?” We walked upstairs to my room, and he
plopped himself in front of my TV and turned on my Xbox 360.

“Seriously Jonny, what are you talking about? Didn’t you hear him talking
about all those other girls?”

“Don’t tell me you didn’t notice the wink he gave you. Or when he came up
and gave you a hug that I know made you nearly die. He likes you, and he’s
probably thinking the same thing as you. That you two don’t know each other
well, and it would be weird to be falling for each other so soon.”

“You know, that actually does sound logical.”

“Well obviously, it’s coming from me, I only speak words of wisdom and
smartness and logicnesseses…” I looked at him with a smirk on my face.

“Logicnessesses eh? Sounds like you really do have a high IQ haha”

“I sure do. So you must believe me when I say that he likes you. It’s obvious.”

“I believe you, but I’m not going to do anything about it. It never seems to end
well when I go for guys, so I’ll just let him come to me.”

“Yeah, you do tend to have bad luck with that.”

“OH, what were you going to tell me about Marissa?”

“What? Oh. Um. So we both know how many times I’ve asked her out right?”
I nodded.

“And we both know how many times she shot me down.” I nodded again.

“Well, she finally pitied me agreed to go out on a date with me this Friday
night at eight!”

“Are you serious?!?! That’s so awesome! I’m so happy for you.”

“Why thank you! I’m so excited. But you’re clearly going to have to come
over before hand and help me pick out what I’m wearing. I mean I don’t want
to take her out, and have her look all hot and me look all… well… not hot.”

“You sound like such a girl!” He glared at me.

“I’m sorry, you do though. But I’ll definitely come help, no worries.”

“Okay good. And promise you won’t make fun of me because I’m really
nervous!”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make fun of you. I’ll help you. And I’ll even come
over after if you want and you can give me all the details. Well maybe not all
of the details. I don’t need to be grossed out before I go to sleep haha.”

“That would be good.”

“Okay then that’s what I’ll do. And maybe Alex and I’ll will hang out before you
get home.”

“I’ll hook that up.” He said as he was playing Guitar Hero.

“Really?”

“Yeah, why wouldn’t-YE BOI did you see that 100 note streak!- Like I said
why wouldn’t I?”

“I don’t, I thought it might be weird or something.”

“Not at all. Tomorrow, when you’re ‘in the bathroom’, I’ll make it happen
haha.” He said and winked at me, then continued his game.

For the next few hours we played Guitar Hero and ate pizza. *
Ring Ring * My cell phone went off, and Johnny dived for it.

“It’s him, it’s him, it’s him!”

“Oh my god! Gimme it!”

“I’m answering it!”

“Oh no.”
