I really wanted to start a happy debate (I am almost 100% positive thats an oxymoron), so what screams romance to you? The classic flowers and chocolate or something a little more unique?

Romance to me is my boyfriend still loving me even though I am secretly a total dork. And the fact that he still thinks I'm beautiful even when I am unshowered laying on my couch because I got my wisdom teeth pulled three days before.

What's the thing that you want from that special someone, or the future special someone.

Similar to you. I consider myself a HUGE dork(I mean, algebra in 7th grade? I have no excuse). If a girl can just be there for me in troubling times, be there for me, and I do the same for her, I'd be very happy with the relationship.

There's actually a girl in particular I'd ask out, except for two reasons:

1) I have nerves of Jello
2) She has a boyfriend

Well, the guy's a pretty huge jerk. He flirted with two girls at once, and she was watching! And she didn't even break up with him! Talk about issues. But if that didn;t make her dump him, I don't know what will. He'd probobly have to full-fledged cheat on her for that to happen.

Love's a funny thing sometimes, even when the guy is a jerk you hold on because you keep hoping that they will change (they rarely do). Sometimes all a girl needs is to know there is someone else out there that cares about her that will treat her right. Who knows, tell her how you feel.

Thing is, he hasn't done that sense(as far as she or I know). She seems content with everything now, and all that. Maybe I'll tell her after he recovers from the misery of the inevitable breakup.

The awesome thing is this: we go to a school that's both middle and high school, but we're both going to another place for high school. Serious minority there. What are the chances? I don't know about her boyfriend, but they'll break up by then. His actions show aa personality flaw she doesn't like. Gah, I'm starting to sound like Carolyn Hax...

Well, the middle school dance was today (I can't dance, so I wasn't there). Prime time for jerks to be dumped

Um, would you like me to move this to The Lounge? It looks like the topic is going to be a discussion, not a debate.

Romance is driving an hour and a half for a date. It's giving a nice massage when someone is stressed out. It's the squeeze of a hand and a loving glance that says what you both know. It's the encouraging words that get you through the day, and the promise that you'll come home to one another... even if you're miles away. It's talking everything through and being there with a hug when things are rough, and the promise that you're going to work everything through together.

It's not having to proclaim your love in every blog entry, because instead of writing it so the other person can read it, you tell it to him/her directly.

Aww, that was sweet. I totally agree, I'm really glad I live so close to Dean. You know those moments where no words are said, it's just that one little look that says it all. Those are the moments I actually feel beautiful, ya know?

Okay, so I'm speaking from a cynic's point of view here, I guess, and from the standpoint that I've never been in love, so feel free to razz me out of town if you don't like what I say.

I think that what we think of as 'romance' is really just a sort of shallow, puppy-love type courtship. As you said, the whole thing with chocolate and flowers may make a girl's heart go flip-flop, but it doesn't mean true love! Believe me, I'm not someone who generally goes around pulling out the Bible to quote to people, but the best definition of love I ever saw comes straight from Corinthians:

"Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perserveres.
Love never fails."
Corinthians 13: 4-8

Do you see what I mean? In the face of this powerful description of true love, all our flirtations and petty jealousies seem so...insignificant. I don't mean to put any crushes down, or poo-pooh your relationships, by any means! I'm just saying, those four verses right there are solid gold when it comes to defining love, and there is NOTHING in there about who asks whom to dances or who buys whom a flower for Valentine's Day.

ANYway...didn't mean to get so intense, there. I'm still your friend, right?

Haha of course! And I totally agree, I hate getting flowers and chocolates, I don't go to dances, and I refuse to celebrate V-day. Dean and I have a weird kind of love I guess. The only two people that really see it are us. We are so awkward (mainly because I am awkward) but we are so right. Ya know? And even though I'm not christian and I don't really believe the Bible, I do believe in that quote.
