Greetings and salutations, all!

So last year when I graduated from high school, my English Literature teacher left a comment on my report that I had "a wry, quirky sense of ironic humour". I suppose you can derive from that what you will.

(Incidentally, at the bottom of a creative writing assignment of mine, that same teacher also wrote, "There's a Mills & Boon bodice ripper in here, potentially!" I'm still trying to figure out whether to be amused or insulted. But it's more fun to be amused )

Clearly, I'm Brackynn -- I'm seventeen, Arian and Australian. Currently, I'm studying classical music and music theatre at university, but in my spare time, I love to read and write. I'm especially fond of historical romance and anything a little bit disturbing.

I'm very much looking forward to getting to know some more people here -- from what I've seen so far, this looks like a really great place. See you all around!

Well, I'm not a clarinetist myself, though one of my best friends is. I'm firstly a vocalist, secondly a pianist. (And thirdly a ... recorder-ist? Good times )

I guess I'll tackle these in order, eh? I've got four dogs -- a Jack Russell called Jackie (I know, very original), a mutt called Geoffrey and two Airedales called Georgie and Danny. Plus a very old, very snoozy cat, aptly named Wally. And one of my sisters has a horse -- an Arabian x Appaloosa called Benji.

As for sports, to be honest, I usually try to avoid them. However, I do enjoy horse riding when I can, and I can play passable netball. I used to be a halfway decent gymnast, but that's ancient history now. I still like watching it, though. The closest I get to sport are my dance classes -- I do about five hours a week.

And aside from the aforementioned reading/writing and general performing arts, my main hobby is Blackadder. Closely followed by Law & Order: SVU. But seriously. Do not come between me and a Blackadder-watching marathon

Majoring in music? Whoa, you must be majorly good. (That was a pun...um...*clears throat*...yeah). I play the piano, too, but my singing is limited. What genres of music do you like?

Musical theater is awesome! What shows are your favorites?

I love puns! I'll have to remember that one I have to admit to being a dag and absolutely adoring Broadway music above all else. Especially Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim. I could listen to them all day. And, as you might be able to guess, I like classical, too. Debussy rocks my socks for piano music, but when it comes to voice, I love Puccini. But aside from that, I also like big band and jazz ... Ella Fitzgerald is one of my favourites. And Celtic music is beautiful, too. (Seriously, don't get me started on music. I won't stop!)

I'm a Sweeney Todd gal. I love it to bits. I was one of the theatre nerds who freaked out when the Tim Burton movie was given the official go-ahead and spent months and months nervously awaiting the movie. I was actually pleasantly surprised, as I had had low expectations, but it surpassed them by far. It's not the stage show, and I don't think I can quite forgive them for cutting "Kiss Me", but hey, I can always watch my DVD of the touring production with the George Hearn and Angela Lansbury goodness *drool* Ahem. Yes. Sweeney Todd is my favourite.

However, I also really love Aspects of Love. My friend made up a tagline for it, which I find oddly hysterical -- Two men. Three women. One minor. Three blood relations. How many affairs can they have without breaking the law? But in all seriousness, I think it's one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's most underrated scores. Lovely.

And tying with Aspects for my second-favourite is Assassins. I adore the score, especially the fact that the music is often so cheerful while the lyrics are all about, well, assassinations of US Presidents, or attempted ones, anyway. Gah, I love it. I dance to "The Ballad of Czolgosz".

... You know how I said not to get me started on music? Well, really don't get me started on musicals. This is me being succinct

Historical romances, you say? That sounds pretty interesting, depending on how one goes about it. Based on the bodice-ripping comment, I'm curious. Will I ever get to see some beautiful work from you?

Thanks, Suzanne You know, the really strange thing was that the bodice-ripper comment was for a story that wasn't even a romance. It was about a bunch of servants in a big manor who had to deal with the fact that the lady of the house was mentally ill. The only hint of romance was that one of the characters mentioned in passing that said lady's husband took mistresses *shrug*

I'll certainly post some of my writing soon, but I'm still finding my way around at the moment ... and I still have to write at least two critiques, I believe?

I'm big on musical theatre! Watching though, not doing...I fear my talent leaves much to be desired. But, writing I know! What do you like to write?

True! But it isn't too hard to do. Critiquing is amazing, because you learn how to edit better. Strange, though, I still love critique and hate editing. Hahah.

Thanks, Via -- in a really, really warped way, I guess you could say that Brackynn is sort of my name. A long time ago, I stuck my real name (Grace) into a fairy name generator and it told me that my fairy name equivalent was Bracken. I prettied it up a bit, and it's been my Internet alter ego ever since.

I actually really enjoy editing, which is pretty bizarre, given that I put myself through hell when I do. You know that saying about being your own harshest critic? They made that saying for me I'll see if I can give critiquing a shot tomorrow, though (I really should be asleep now).

Haha, that's cool! I love Grace too though!

I've always had a facination with the name "Breckin" for some unknown reason...but was never sure if it would be nice to name a kid that? Hehe. But, we recently had a baby named Braylynn in our family so I'm thinking two babies named Braylynn and Breckin might be a little much for one family hehe.


What kind of things do you like to write?

Oh, sorry, I must have missed that part of your first post! (S'pose that's what comes of trying to be coherent when it's past midnight...)

Like I said before, I do historical romance, mainly. I'm onto my fourth or fifth revision of my first completed novel, which is, to be very general, about transience, repression of memory and toxic love affairs. However, editing it kind of depresses me at times (because of the subject matter, not because I don't like editing), so I've just begun writing a second novel, which is much lighter in tone. Quite frankly, it's a load a silly, romantic fluff, but I like that about it I've also got a number of historical short stories that I'm continually re-working; they're all strung loosely together by the fact that the protagonists are all young girls.

I don't do poetry, though. I mean, seriously. I've tried many times, and each time I've had to fight the urge to gag myself with a spoon. But I know that one of my assignments this year will be to compose a short song with lyrics included, so I might have to try my hand at that in the near future (le gasp!)
