If it were a movie!?

Call me lame, but I love looking up actors to cast for my novel were it to ever become a motion picture.
I find this very helpful in developing character. Of course this should only add to the creative aspect, not block it. So if you ever get stuck with character description or coming up with someone new, search an actor on imdb.com to play them in your story/novel's upcoming movie. It's a lot of fun, just don't get carried away nor let the actor's appearance limit your character. If your character has the actor's eyes, but not his big nose, don't be afraid to make your character have a small nose. Hope this helps anyone with character problems!

...and please, for the sake of every writer who was ever able to look themselves in the mirror without feeling horrible, do not, ever, base a character on Jim Carey.

Ye. Trouble is, high fantasy can go either way. Take LotR and Eragon. There is no comparison.

Well, there is in a way. A good book made a good movie, and a bad book made a bad movie.

I've never cast actors for my story, but I did once imagine up this dramatic and random commercial, and then put a plot to it. It's actually quite fun to go backwards that way.

I think of my story like a movie anyway, but I never put actors themselves in place of my characters. I just let the film roll by, if you will.

I never really thought of my story as a movie. Most of my characters are based on people I know or have developed intricately in my mind over a period of months. I have no idea how I would even begin to cast for my novel. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun though!
