Psychic Vampires: An Essay
A basic element of science states that energy can be neither created nor destroyed. This is an easy way of looking at the hunger that most psychic vampires experience. In a psychic vampire, they are either born without the energy they need to maintain themselves or they cannot retain this energy. But when they feed off of the energy of others or in the case of some psychic vampires who draw energy from nature they will still eventually return this energy back into the natural flow.
Vampires whether they are psychic or sanguine (blood drinking), abide to The Black Veil or the Thirteen Rules of Community. These two documents were written in order to provide guidelines for vampires to follow that promoted positive interaction between the vampire and non-vampire worlds. Basic principles in each state discretion and restraint as not to show off in front of others, respect for donors and other vampires with differing beliefs, and support for the community. In the modern vampire community, maintaining ethical behavior is important.
However, latent vampires who don't know what effect they can have on people, are the only ones whom these ethic don't always apply. These are the only potentially dangerous kinds of vampire. Most often its not intention and the emotional effects that come from not knowing what they are can be very serious. Sense the creation of so many online forums and websites that provide information about vampires in the modern sense, this confusion seems more avoidable. Lenience should be provided to latent vampires. They have never learned control and can leave their "prey" drained to a dangerous point.
I only use the term prey to describe anyone whom a psychic vampire takes energy from without prior consent, as the donor is a key element to the life of a psychic vampire. Donors don't just make a temporary bond with the vampire that feeds from them. Often, a strong donor/vampire relationship forms based on the hunger that a vampire often needs to meet and the donors ability to withhold from the vampire respectively.
The persona of the dark, mysterious, and sexually provocative vampire is influenced mostly by the media and by the image of a lifestyler. These are people who take on the theatrical vision of the vampire as to express themselves, especially for events such as Vampire: The Masquerade, a role-playing game similar to Dungeons & Dragons, were participants play vampires struggling to survive in the modern world.
Though the vampire subculture is still shrouded in mystery, vampires are slowly opening their world to promote further understanding of their community with books, websites, and interviews.
I originally wrote this by request for metaphysical website and I just thought I'd put it up here for viewing. Its a different sort of subject but very interesting.
