Okay, this is my first book review! here goes:
The book single shard is about a orphaned Korean boy, Tree-ear, living with another homeless man, Crane-man. They live under a bridge, barely surviving in the potters' village of Chulpo.
One day, while Tree-ear is admiring one man's pottery, he accidentally breaks a piece. This is how he comes under the service of potter Min, whose wife Ajima makes food for Tree-ear and Crane-man. However, Min is reluctant to actually teach Tree-ear how to make pottery. This is because the trade goes from father to son, and Min's son died a long time ago. Min is a grumpy person, and makes Tree-ear do hard work like preparing wood for the kiln.
Until one day word gets out that one royal commission shall be given to one potter in Chulpo. To get the commission for Min, Tree-ear must take the adventure of his life.
This is an interesting book, probably the best one I've read as a school assignment. It has good morals lessons, suspense, tradegy, etc. What wiil be the fate of Min, Crane-man,or Tree-ear? You want to find out!
Definitely 4 star, worth reading!
