Chapter 1, Part 2,
I woke up in cold cell, my right arm bandaged. What happened to my arm? I thought looking at the blood spotted dressing. My clothes were changed to a white hospital gown. Shoes and all of the jewelry I had been wearing gone. A cold chill ran down my back as I stood up and walked toward the bars in front of me.
I looked passed the bars and into the cell opposite of mine. A boy that looked my age stepped toward his cell bars with a face filled with hatred. His bronze hair shinned in what light filled the hallway.
The boys sat on the ground and kept his eyes focused on me. As I backed away from the bars the boy spoke to me, showing his snowy white teeth.
“Hello,” said the boy.
I kept quiet, unable to move or speak, I was locked in his cold gaze. The boy seemed so familiar to me, I’ve met him somewhere, but where? The boy stared at me with a look of curiosity and frustration on his face instead of the hatred that had been there.
“Aren’t you supposed to say hello back?”
I managed to say a quiet hello back before I spotted a skinny scientist beginning to walk toward my cell. I cautiously walked away from the bars and back into the shadows of my room. The scientist was carrying a tray with a few pieces of bread and a glass of water. The look of hatred came back to the boys’ face as the scientist pulled a key out of his front pocket. Slowly opening the cell door and gently placing the tray inside, a streak of light passed my cell.
The scientist began to panic as he started to sprint back to the door at the end of the hallway. The next thing I saw was the scientist falling to the floor with a loud thud that echoed throughout the whole prison room. The boy stood beside the fallen scientist. With a clap of his hands they started to glow a bright red. He set his right hand gently on the scientists’ back. Suddenly, the scientist began to turn to stone.
I gasped and truly thought this was going to be the end for me. I stared at the boy with a look of pure fear on my face. I was frozen, unable to know what to do.
“I do not kill humans, only Second Earth creatures.” said the boy, the look of hatred still glued to his face.
My first thought was that he knew I wasn’t a human and was trying to see if I’d say something stupid which would just give it away. But then instead of killing me, he began to walk away.
“Please get me out of here!” I pleaded.
The boy turned his head toward me. “Fine, but if I find out that your not human,” he laughed quietly. “I will kill you.”
My plan to escape looked more like a suicide now. If I ever slipped up and he found out that I was from Second Earth my fate would be the exact same as the scientists’. The mutated people in the other cells started to moan for the boy to take them with him, too. He sighed and in a flash, the cell doors were open. As the boy walked toward my cell I hoped that this was just a bad dream that I’d soon wake up from.
It only took one punch to the lock of the door for it to fall off. I was beginning to doubt that he was human. The boy grabbed my hand, his was cold, like a dead body’s hand. But there he was, dragging me along to the door at the end of the hallway. The strange boy and I, along with the earthlings following behind us, got to the tall metal door.
He let my hand go and opened the door slightly and took a peek out. With the tiny crack all I could see was a metal room with another door at the end. Two guards were standing beside the door, hands behind their backs. The guards wore armor that coved their entire body, even their faces were coved. I walked to the right of the boy and saw in a corner of the metal room was a separate cell, and in that was a girl. When her eyes met my gaze my body temperature began to decrease. A cold shiver ran down my back. I wanted to look away but I couldn’t. Someone pushed me down onto the concrete floors, I looked up to find that it was the boy.
He looked down to the floor with a pained expression on his face. “My mother will hate me for this…”
