I HATE HIM.

I am SO mad. So it looked like things were going to get better... and then HIM.

I hate him. I simply hate him.

Or maybe I hate all of them? From Hester's insistence that Pearl does not understand the A when obviously, she understands the A better than Hester can ever know. The A symbolizes, not necessarily the adultery, but the connection that Hester has with Pearl. The sacrifice that Hester gave in order for Pearl to exist. That's why Pearl loves the A and why, when Hester threw it away, in the hopes of getting rid of it forever, Pearl was aghast.

And why wouldn't Dimmesdale walk with Pearl, hand in hand? He's said before that the torment that he feels is worse than admitting the truth. In this case, the truth will set him free. And yeah, I know that he is being watched by all the miserable Puritans, but... OMG. He should live in truth, not in the miserable lie that he's been living for seven years.

And Lord knows that they're never going to escape the hell that they created simply by going to the Old World. Otherwise, they will just be chased away by The Black Man himself, as Pearl so wisely pointed out.

GUH.

At the moment, it doesn't look like it's going to be a happy ending, simply because of the stupidity of the characters.

I didn't understand The Scarlet Letter. Then again, I'm not really one for symbolism and complicated stuff [let's use the "i'm too young!" excuse here], but I'll go and try reading it again.
