My English teacher (who's a Mark Twain scholar) had us do a poetry anthology, with other authors and our own. The only thing is, she REQUIRED certain forms =| Here is my quatrain(s); those there is a couplet...hehe.

----

Stuck in the ground,
Still hard times in bright times
Always coming and leaving,
Always at the right time.

The shadows, they yearn
Not for pity, but concern -
Following to the end,
One duty that cannot bend.

Stepping and dancing, these shadows
Mimic our actions;
We are marionettes controlling
Every movement, even rash ones.

Climb a mountain, they're climb too
Stuck in your foot, staring at you -
Work to the gallows,
They'll do it for you.

Yet, no appreciation
Only rest is when night comes.
Even then, the post lights
Still drag them to guide us.

They're tired, sick and tired
The real only one thing they desire...

Go turn off the lights
Keep them away,
All the shadows want
Is to come out and play.

This is really interesting, it has a really different feel to it. Maybe some of that is because it's an English assignment, but it's still really good.

Stepping and dancing, these shadows
Mimic our actions;
These two lines don't seem to go together. They make the rhythm off, and don't flow quite right.

Climb a mountain, they're climb too
Well, you could fix this two ways. One, they climb too, or two, Theyr'e climbing too.
Shakespearian tongue-twister:

To sit in solemn silence
In a dark, dank dock
In a pestilential prison
With a lifelong lock;
Awaiting the sensation
Of a short, sharp shock
Of a cheap, chippy chopper
On a big black block.

It sounds good, but I'm not quite sure of one or two places. One example is:
The real only one thing they desire...
This should probably be written as "The only thing they really desire . . ." or "The one thing they really desire . . ."; written as is, it has an awkward phrasing and doesn't quite make sense.
Other than that and the one Sassykat said, it seems great to me.
Sad soul, take comfort nor forget
The sunrise never failed us yet.--Celia Thaxter

True eloquence consists in saying all that should be said, and that only.--Francois Rochefoucauld

"Look at society and tell me the merits of sanity."--Nietzsche
