Sup. I guess when I first joined the site, I didn't really bothered in posting in this forum until recently. Guess I should make an entry now.
As many of you would know, my name is Andy and I've been living in New Zealand for like 14 years. That's pretty much like my entire life since I was born in Hong Kong and moved here when I was 3 lol. Hrmm I'm a gamer, student and a random bum and somewhat a nerd lol. I sit behind a computer screen for like 6 hours a day + doing random stuff. Can't live without internet nor the computer lol.
Back to gaming. I'm into RPGS and some action/adventure games. Favourite games are Final Fantasy IX, X and XII, Devil May Cry 1 and 3 (mostly because of its gameplay), Metroid Prime Trilogy, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Hrmm I guess that's pretty much it. Waiting to get Super Mario Galaxy for the wii since I heard it is an amazing game. Should keep me entertained.
Now you may be asking me as to why I joined the site. I think I joined it because I was bored and I want to write to keep myself occupied and entertained. I also believe that I want to make a change in literature. To be honest, not much books interest me nowadays. I tried to read one but simply put it down since it's neither refreshing nor interesting. Then again, maybe I haven't been reading the right ones lol.
I focus on the fantasy genre as it is what I am interested in, though my inspiration is drawn from books that I've read from other genres and my own life experiences. Personally, I think fantasy is one genre of books that aren't really well understood and people just sterotype fantasy to things like dragons, elves, quest to save the world, chosen one etc etc. Why can't fantasy be just a simple representation of our lives? Why does it have to have things which are considered unnatural or unrealistic? Why is it that experience readers tend to compare all fantasy works with that of Lord of the Rings? And what really sickens me the most is the way people use Eragon as a scapegoat of being a cliche? I'm pretty sure there are other cliche books out there.
The fantasy that I am working on draws inspiration from mainly my life experience and my own thoughts on fantasy. The fantasy will take place in a world very similar to ours but with some differences which hence makes it a fantasy and these elements will have relevance to the plot and characters. The magical aspect of the world is very well controlled. Things happen but with a reason and a consequence. The reasons and consequences are so strict, that it will be reduced to the society being similar to ours. I am willing to invest huge amounts of time on this fantasy, as I have nothing to do anyways and I want to show to people that fantasy shouldn't be confining. In fact, it should be treated just like any other genre.
Hrmm. I'm good in maths, science and also english. I got a end of year award for excellence in math and I'm in the top science class so that shows that I'm like a math/science guy lol. I guess being good in those subjects will be an advantage, as it will help contribute to the realism of my fantasy.
That's all I have to say. If you want to know more about me, chat to me on the chat room or PM me. Also, I hope you'll have time to read my work. At the moment, I am in the middle of rewriting and I am going to put my maximum effort into that. In a way, it does sound selfish, but my pride is what really drives me forward. Ironically, it is also what is my downfall at times.
Laters.
Andy
P.S: Stop scapegoating Eragon please. There are other books that should be blaimed on as well.
P.S.S: My favourite fantasies are Final Fantasy IX, X, XII, The Old Kingdom Trilogy and believe it or not, CardCaptor Sakura.
