Bees and Wasps

In this world, there are bees and wasps,
And both are annoying pests.
There seems to be no purpose for them,
But God created them, like the rest.

The bees are always doing something
To meet their worldly needs;
There’s never a time when they’re at rest,
For they are “Busy bees.”

The wasps are way too lazy
And do nothing with their lives;
They mischievously steal other’s work
To fill their desires and survive.

Now both of these may seem extreme
As far as ethics go;
Moderation is a key skill
To learn to go with the flow.

As for me, I am a bee
Who never stops or sleeps,
But I’m just as bad as those wasps
Who only breathe and eat.

So hark, my fellow insect friends
And hear what you must learn:
Moderate work is good for thee,
And always wait your turn.
The slow cashier will eventually ring you up.

Tear it to shreds, if you wish. I liked this idea, and like the idea of it being a good poem :D

I suppose the last line is supposed make you go, "Wait, what?"

That's what it did to me, at any rate. Also, the scientist in me really wants to nitpick that bees do have a purpose, as they polinate flowers. And support various ecosystems.

Lastly, I've always thought that rhyme gets in the way of meaning, but you did all right in that regard. Bees and Wasps are types of people, gotcha. I found, though, that some of the longer lines make the flow sorta awkward, especially in that third stanza. That and rhymming "sleeps" and "eat" is kinda … sketch.

Not bad, though.
"Buy, buy, buy, buy; sell, sell, sell
How well you've learned to not discern;
Who's foe and who is friend,
We'll own them all in the end."

Oh my, you are right! This was a fun read! :D I have to say, this has been one of my favorite poems on YWS for quite a while, simply because I like the narrator knows when to get away. And I love the ending! Because it's so random and weird... it made me laugh! There's this biological explanation, and then the reason why this poem was written? Because of a slow cashier. Hilarious!

Anyway, thanks for the read! :D

I rated the poem for you this time, being the evil mod that I am, but you should rate your work next time. Besides, if you rate it, it'll appear on the main page, and we love free publicity! :D

This is a great read. I love the ending, especially the 'The slow cashier will eventually ring you up' part. I can definitely see some meaning in the poem.
Keep writing!

First of all great work! This poem carries a lot of meaning and is fun to read.

Okay you carry a good rhythm although you slip up in so me of the stanzas.

The wasps are way too lazy
And do nothing with their lives;
They mischievously steal other’s work
To fill their desires and survive.

"To fill their desires and survive" You seemed to have added a syllable in survive and it doesn't fit with the preset rhythm that you have set.

As for me, I am a bee
Who never stops or sleeps,
But I’m just as bad as those wasps you see
Who only breathe and eat.

I think the you see would help you stay in rhythm and still keep this line.

Other than that great job! You keep a rhythm nicely and your rhyme scheme was entertaining and made the reading enjoyable this is a very fun poem.

The slow cashier will eventually ring you up.

This was a great way to finish it up. Very good work!

Wesley's Score: :smt013 for the slow cashier and an overall score of :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 !

This was really nice to read. I have to admit that the last line really threw me off. I was kinda like "Huh? wtf?" But I like random endings and it was good.
