Bali Rai is an award winning author.
His books have wide and varying themes - but most of them are based upon his Asian background. He writers for both young children and teenagers. His books are less 'YA'; more hard hitting tales of some of the most taboo subjects.
By friend first introduced me to his work two years ago with (un)arranged marriage. I read it in a matter of hours and loved it. Since then my friends and I swap and recommend his books.
I have also read The Crew and it's follow up The Whisper, Rani and Sukh (which is one of my favourite books..) and I have just picked up The Angel Collector from my library.
His books are absorbing, insightful and real. I would recommend them to anyone - boys and girls of all ages. Even more so those who live in Britain as he deals with some political stuff in some of his books.
