We had to write this in a week with a maximum of 800 words...mines is about 950 words. Look I am terrible at keeping to word limits. I don't care what my teacher thinks because he looks too much like Action Man but I want to know what you think XD

Tricks of the Mind
Josh was desperate to convince his sister to walk him to Lucien’s. Josh hated the lift in Lucien’s multi-storey. However, she was keeping up a great argument.
“But please Ellie!” he whined jumping up and down.
“No.” she said, “It is only a lift; besides, you’re going to be late if you don’t go now.”
“C’mon Ellie, please!” Josh said becoming ever more jumpy. The idea of going in the lift by himself was becoming more real with every please.
“You go zooming down big ramps on your BMX and you’re scared of a lift,” replied Ellie raising one eyebrow.
“B-b-but…” Josh failed to think of a reply.
“You are old enough now to go in a lift by yourself.”
They had been going round like this for quite a while and Josh was eventually beginning to see he was fighting a losing battle. Ellie really meant what she was saying and was not walking him to Lucien’s house.
“Fine,” he crossed his arms, “I’m telling on you later.”
Josh shoved out his tongue at his sister as he stormed out of her bedroom.
The lift door stood before Josh looking like the closed jaws of a shark. Biting his lip was starting to become painful but it eased his nerves a little. His watch read 11:44. Josh was supposed to arrive at Lucien’s at quarter to twelve. There was no chance he could make it up the stairs in time and he didn’t want to leave Lucien waiting.
Almost shaking, he reached out to push the button. Josh had to close his eyes even to do this. He could feel the button pressing down and heard the soft swooshing of the lift door gliding open. Not even wishing to be this near to a lift on his own, he opened one eye still biting his lip as if he thought it might have gone away. Unfortunately it hadn’t. It seemed a whole lot bigger today than the times he had had Ellie to tell him jokes and distract him from where he was.
As he cautiously stepped into the lift he heard the cough of somebody entering the multi-storey. Panic rushed through Josh. What if the person coming in was too heavy for the lift and made it break down?
Josh reacted so fast to that notion he did not notice what he had done. He slammed his hand down on the button for Lucien’s floor so hard it made the whole lift rattle a little. The door slid shut.
He leant his back against the wall and felt relieved until his fears caught up with. He was here, in a lift, by himself. That thought made him incredibly scared. He tried to reassure himself that everything was okay. All that happened though was his throat became very dry, very fast. All the bad things that could happen went through his head. The lift could break down, he could loose his air supply or he could die in here.
The lift shook a little and seemed to be going slower. Was it just Josh’s imagination or had the digital display above the door been reading six for quite a while now?
It seemed, to Josh as though, the lift had broken down.
The walls felt like they were closing in on Josh and the ceiling was falling down. A few moments ago it had felt bigger than his bedroom. Now he felt as though he had been crammed into the cupboard under the stairs along with a thousands boxes and his BMX. The sudden smallness of the lift made Josh feel as though he couldn’t breathe properly. His heart thumped against the inside of his chest incredibly fast. His throat became dryer by the second and his hands shook like crazy.
Ellie had once told him it was alright if you got stuck in the lift. All you had to do was press the button with the bell on it and somebody would come and rescue you. He had always been sceptical about it because how could somebody rescue you from a metal box suspended in air. Now he didn’t care at all about where he was. Just so long as he got out.
An alarm rang out. It sounded for quite some time. The noise made Josh cover his ears and curl up on the floor. He started to cry. He was so mad his sister. How could she leave him to go in the lift when she knew just how much he hated it?
He lay curled on the floor thinking he was going to die in here. Everything he had dreamed of doing that wasn’t going to happen. He thought about his family, Lucien waiting for him and the rest of his friends. He thought he knew for sure he was going to run out of air soon until he heard voices echoing up the lift shaft after what seemed an eternity. Somebody had come to rescue him. Despite still being in a complete state he managed to stand up. He wiped his face with the back of his shaking hands. The display had moved up to eight. A smile began to creep across his face. He only had two more floors to go and he could get out.
When the doors slid open two men stood talking waiting for the lift.
“’Oi you! What d’you think you were doing pressing the alarm?” one of them said.
“Yeah, it’s not funny kid,” the other said.
What were they talking about? Josh had been in real danger.
How long had he left Lucien waiting anyway? He looked at his watch.
It was only now 11:46…
