Solve It!

My teacher got me into this stuff. This thread is particularly for mystery lovers who love to solve puzzles and things. What I'll do is post a new "mystery" each time someone guesses the right answer to the previous one, and you try to solve them. Really, it's easier than it sounds.

hehe I'm bad at explaining, but anyway, here's your first mystery!! (These aren't originally mine, fyi, I got most of these from class.)

One night, my Aunt Hannah was reading a book and was just getting to an exciting part, when a storm knocked out all the electrical power to her house. Aunt Hannah had no matches, candles, flashlights, or any other means of light, but she just kept right on reading until she finished her book. How could she do that?

By the way, if you get this right, you can choose to make up your own mystery, or I will just post another. Good luck!!

Lol ok. Once again, this is NOT mine. ^^

Every day, Mandy rises up out of bed, gets in the elevator in her building, and presses the button to take her to the lobby. At the end of the day, when she returns from work, she gets in the elevator and presses the button for the ninth floor. She gets out and walks up five floors to her room, even though the elevator would take her to her floor. Why? (She doesn't do it for the exercise.)

It took me hours to get these, and even that wasn't enough time! XD Well, anyhow, right again. Here is the next one, which I doubt you will probably have any problems with. This is the only one I got right:

"This parrot will repeat any word it hears," said the pet shop owner. A woman bought the bird, but brought it back a week later to complain that the bird had not yet spoken a single word. However, the pet shop owner had told the truth. Explain.

It never siad the woman bought the parrat. (I'm really bad at these and I know I probably got it wrong so... Go easy on me)
