Just a note before I start, but this isn't my best work. Not to mention that I practically have no Internet so I won't be able to update or answer questions for long periods of time, and that isn't the good if you're trying to be an active member of this site. So anyway, this is just an experiment to see how people take my work and to brush up on some skills. Criticism taken.
File 1, Part 1
"Here," Jack Harlington, the infamous "Black Jack" hunter and my boss, said as he slid a box towards me. It's big, brown, and has the name "Shadow Moon" scribbled on it's lid.
I eyed it suspiciously. "What is it? Another case?" I ask. Heaven knows I'm already working over time on the twenty-seven cases I have.
"It's your files," he replied. He was tired, and, considering the cases that have been pouring in, he had a right to be. "Take 'em. They're clogging up my drawers."
I shrug in the sarcastic way I always do. "Not my problem. You keep me busy."
He sighed, "Moon, I have no time and no patience for your usual act. Take 'em and get out of my office."
"Whatever," I say coolly. I manage to drag the box out of his shabby-but-perfectly-managed office. Out of all the men I've ever met, Jack is the only neat-freak. Then again, I'm pretty sure it's driven by his need for complete control, something he'll never get that from us with the hours we have to work.
"Did the old man give you another case?" Fritz "Dragon-Blood Hoffman" asked sympathetically when I slammed the door behind me, "It must suck to be his favorite."
I gave the blond my signature death-glare, "I am not his favorite, and no, it's not another case, it's just my files."
"Believe whatever you want," was his bland reply. He resumed the laid back position he was in before I walked out and shut his famous, flaming-red eyes.
I collapsed at my desk and attempted to return to the case file I was looking at before Jack called me in his office. Finally I gave in to the curiosity and rummaged through the box for the file marked 'File 1'. I opened it and began to read.

I scanned my profile briefly and flipped to the next page, allowing the bitter memories to wash over me.
The Bloody Rose Files
The name made me shiver. My first case was one that I didn't enter willingly.
Rogue Hunter Cole "Demon Shadow" identified as the Bloody Rose killer. Demon Shadow had a long past of obsessing over girls with strange eye colors. He reportedly stalked them, then, if they didn't show any sign of hunter instincts, slit their throat and soaked a white rose in their blood. On December 21, 1942, two years after the killings started, he found what he was looking for.
Did he ever. I remember that day better than I remember what I had for lunch yesterday. It was just after midnight when Cole first revealed himself. I was outside on the roof of my five-story apartment building watching the moon and dreaming of a better life when he appeared beside me.
"Hello, Sylvia," he had said. I just stared at him. Don't get me wrong, I do get suspicious when a hot guy in black that I've never seen in my life before greets me by my first name, but I was still a mortal, single 21 year-old back then. He must have noticed because he said, "Oh, forgive me for being rude. My name is Cole."
I broke out of my trance, "How do you know my name?" I asked. I was naive then. I wanted to run for it, and should have, but I know now I would have never made it.
"I've been watching you, Sylvia. I've been looking for you for a long time." If that wasn't creepy enough, his fangs slid out. I was ready to leave at that point, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me closer. I struggled, but it only made him laugh. "You want to leave?" he taunted, "It's too late for that, Sylvia Moon. You're mine now."
He bit into my neck and that was the last thing I remember.
21-year-old Sylvia Moon was found wandering the streets at 1:00 AM by Hunter "Black Jack" Harlington. She was wearing all black and was carrying a black rose. She nearly destroyed the entire city of New York before being sedated and brought to headquarters for questioning. It took several hours to fully calm her down and hear her story. She was registered as a Hunter immediately following and put to work finding her patron.
It didn't work out so well. He was still out there waiting. They knew it was me he was after. They wanted to test my power. If someone as powerful as Cole had gone through all this trouble to look for one girl they knew I had to be something different. Boy, were they right. Too right.
Sorry for the cliffie. It's a habit of mine. Do remember that this is only part one and that I can't explain everything in one sitting. If you want something explained, just ask and I'll try to fit it in the next chapter. Suspense is part of the mix, people. There will be things you don't know and there is a reason for that. Unless it's a mistake on the author's part, but the author is human and makes mistakes. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to criticize and comment. That's about all I want to say. Until next time!
