Revenge of the Cafeteria

The Premise

A group of random kids at St. John's high school discover that the lunch lady has a disturbing secret....and that the food she's serving has given them incredible powers. Who's controlling Mrs. Deck, the cafeteria lady, who's ordering the radiation hash, and who's got the recipe for that awesome cake?!

"Whoa, look at this!" Martin exclaimed as the paper shot across the room and stuck in the wall. "It's almost like a blade or something."

"How'd you make it do that?" one of his friends asked.

"I dunno, I just...did. You can't tell anyone though, ok?" Martin said.

"Why not? I mean, this is so awesome!" Martin did the cool paper trick again, this time stopping the paper at his friends throat. "Not so awesome anymore," the boy squeeled.

"Don't tell anyone."

"OK! I promise!"


**I was thinking we could do something like how each individual finds their powers...also, are they actually friends, or just people who don't really know each other?**

"Hey, 42-Brown." Tabitha turned her gaze onto Martin, who towered above her.

It was the basketball practice. The girls' team and the boys' team played each other for mock-matches every week or so, with the boys in the unofficial lead-what was with the coaches saying that nobody really won, anyway?

"Hi, 39-Baker," she said, not in the least unfriendly. "'Can I do for you?"

It was the habit of the two teams to call the other players by their numbers and last names.

"I just wanted to say..." Martin hesitated, before smiling somewhat sheepishly. "Nice jumping and that long-shot....that was pretty sweet shot." Betha smiled back.

"Thanks! I've been a lot better at the athletics recently......it's kinda weird..."

Martin blinked at her several times.

A link between the paper, and Brown?

"Anyway, uh, I gotta go." he hurried off.

"Er, okay, BYE!" Betha waved after him.

My character's full name shall be Yera Knight

"Hey, 28-Knight," Casey greeted me.
"Hi there 36-Stevenson," I replied.
"I love your hair," Casey gushed, "But why blue? I think pink would so suit you." I rolled my eyes at her and shook my head, a slight smile tugging at my lips.

Before I had time to reply, I suddenly realised that the ball was coming my way. I dodged my shadow - Mathew - and snatched the ball out of the air. At least that's what I meant to do. My heart was racing and I reached out, expecting to feel firm rubber in my palm but I swear my hand went straight through it.
"What was that? Grab the ball!" Casey squealed and I tentatively picked it up off the floor just as Mathew reached out to take it. Had he seen?

"How could you miss that? You practically had it, I blink and then it's on the floor?" Mathew shook his head in amusement.
"Well I have it now," I smirked and then I was off, bouncing the ball, weaving in and out of the boys.

Trinity watched the two teams playing, she would play wiht them but her wrist had gotten broken last time. She looked at a small plant that was next to her. The coach was giving it to his wife or something. She touched the leaves and started to pull her hand away, the leave followed. Her hand froze and she quickly looked around to see if anyone had seen that. She yanked her hand away and the plant went back to normal.

"No way," She tried again and again the plant followed. "Nice,"

***Sorry if I don't post for a while, I"m grounded....again****

"Something is wrong," Martin whispered to his friend.

"What?"

"Did you notice all those wierd things that happened today?"

"Such as...?"

"Obviously you didn't. In basketball, Yera's hand went threw the ball. I swear, it went through, she didn't just miss it. And Brown's game was amazing today, she couldn't have improved that much since last week."

"I think you're overreacting," his freind said. Just then Tabitha walked past them.

"Tabitha!" Martin called, running to catch up to her.

Later that day, I was witness to a second strange event. I was walking through the vacant hallway, slightly late for my next lesson, when I saw Martin and Tabbitha just ahead. I smiled and was going to say hello but, just at that moment, Martin threw what appeared to be a paper blade towards the wall. I watched in amusement and then horror as the paper knife strengthened and then crashed into the wall and clattered to the ground with a metallic thud.

"How did you do that?" I gasped, hurrying over to collect the weapon. Martin jumped at the sound of my voice and then surveyed the area to see if anyone else had suddenly appeared.
"Wow. You really was serious," Tabitha murmured.

Trinity walked outside and stood behind a tree, she had to see what was really going on. She moved her hand over the grass and thought about pulling a clump up. There was a quiet tears noise as a clump of grass and dirt came up towards her hand. She smiled, and shoved it towards another tree. It hit with a smack, but it hadn't hit the tree. A guy dissapated out of the air covered in dirt. Trinity froze,

"Wow, that was cool." He called walking over. Trinity was still frozen into place, this guy was really really cute. He was a new kid, his green eyes seemed to catch her every move.

"How....how'd you do that?" She demanded. 'stupid feet move' she thought trying to move, but she just couldn't.

"I'm Tony," He said sticking his hand out. His smile was contageous.

"Trinity, now how did you do that?" She asked again, 'Come on Trinity you don't fall for guys this easy!

"The same way you moved that dirt." He laughed, it finally hit her that she had hit him hard wiht the clump of grass.

"Are you ok?" She asked, he chuckled,

"I'm fine, a little dirt never hurt anyone, though if you had thrown it any fast i think i would be laying on the ground right now." He joked,

"I'm soooo sorry." She said

"You didn't see me," He smiled.

"What were you doing there?" She asked him.

"Watching you," He replied with a smile, he turned and walked away.

"Wait, hold up." She called she ran after him and got there surprisingly fast.

"Wow, controll of nature and super speed." He said smiling at her.

"I don't know how I did it...I just consintrate and..." Martin tossed up a piece of paper and made it crash into the wall, cutting into it slightly. "I thought I saw you doing something too, Tabitha....was I right?"

Tabitha shifted her eyes before speaking. "Um...yeah...I guess."

"Well, can you show us?"

Yera

"Well it's not really something I can show," Tabbitha explained. "It's more that I've suddenly got better at sports and... I almost crushed Michaels hand when I shook it today."
"Awesome. Sounds like you have super strength," Martin commented.

To be honest, I wasn't really listening. I was more interested in the piece of paper or rather metal that was lying on the floor. I picked it up carefully and examined it. This time Martin hadn't even bothered to shape it into a plane, it was just a rectangular piece of paper that felt as solid as metal. Suddenly I dropped it to the floor in surprise.

"What's wrong?" Martin asked frowning. "Did it go through your hands like with the ball earlier?"
"This changing paper. Is it supposed to be permanent?" I asked, eyeing the first plane that was still as hard and metallic as before.
"I'm not sure," Martin replied, frowning as he retrieved what was now, once more, a plain piece of paper.

"How do you think this happened?" Yera asked, walking with Martin and Tabbitha. They were nearly to Martin's treehouse, where they could be much more alone.

"I don't know. It was probably a reaction to something, right?" Tabbitha replied.

"Yeah, I totally got bit by a radioactive chipmunk last Tuesday, and that explains everything," Yera replied sarcastically.

"Do you think we might have always had the powers, and they're just now showing themselves?" martin suggested, playing around with a piece of paper.

"No, that's not likely. Why would they just show up now. Maybe it's something we ate?"

"LIke what?"

"I dunno. What did you guys eat for lunch for the last week straight?"

"Cafeteria slop and my sister's cooking, which accounts for the radioactive chipmunk that bit Yera," smiled Beth. "She feeds the 'defective' stuff to the birds."

"Hey, Yera, maybe you got pooped on with radioactive poop!" suggested Martin, laughing. The withering glances from both Beth and Yera stopped his merriment.

"Disgusting," sighed Yera, one hand coming up to feel her hair, just in case. "Well, Marty?"

"Don't call me that! Well, if I could hazard a guess...."

"Don't call me that! Well, if I could hazard a guess, I'd say it's got to be your sister's cooking," Martin grinned and both Tabby and I rolled our eyes.
"So cafeteria food is down as a possibility?" I asked.
"Yeah," Tabitha agreed as we reached Martin's treehouse.
"Ladies first," Martin insisted.

Tabitha smiled at him and then proceded to climb the tree. She got to about the third branch and slipped and... Well, I'd like to be able to say she fell but she didn't. Tabitha hovered in the air, her eyes shut and her hands clenched into fists as she waited for the impact that was not to come.
"Wow. Now that's what I call cool," Martin whistled. Tabitha opened her eyes and glanced around.
"Wow," She breathed, quickly reaching for the nearest branch.
"Maybe try and swing your body closer," I suggested when her hands fell short. Tabitha tried this and took a firm hold on the tree, pulling herself back in.

"Let's get inside and discuss this. We seriously need to talk," Martin decided. I nodded in agreement and carefully followed Tabitha up the tree. If I fell, knowing my luck, I wouldn't be so lucky as to have the power to fly. I shouldn't have been thinking about falling. At that very moment, I reached for the next branch and my arm slid through, throwing my body off balance. My foot slid a good inch and I wobbled but then felt a hand catch hold of my arm and drag me up the last metre.
"Wow, someone got strong," I murmured as I rubbed a rather sore arm. Who knew Tabby had such a tight grip?

"Sorry, did I hurt you?" Tabitha flexed her hand slowly. "The strength keeps coming in waves. It's like...uber adrenaline." she laughed.

"Well, that's not good," noted Martin, last into the treehouse. "Try to master these waves before next Tuesday, huh? We've got dodgeball. I don't want my head broken off by an awry ball."

"Can we get to the subject, please?" asked Yera.

"Certainly," said Tabitha amiably, pulling a box of candy out of her backpack. "Sweetarts, anyone?"

"Thanks. Now, to biz. What are we going to do with these...with these..."

Martin waved a hand with candy in it, trying to find an adequate word.

"Manifestations?" suggested Yera.
