Robert and Christopher
Peering around my front door, I felt that kind of mixture of excitement and dread mix up inside my stomach. I also felt kind of embarrassed, I had just be thrown hastily and rather harshly onto the floor by a boy who I thought liked me, and I was soaking wet. My hair had made itself into some kind of shape that resembled a bees hive and my cheeks were red from the rain. In my opinion that was not the most perfect way to greet Rob. Mom had heard the front door open and she hurried towards me from the living room. He baby bump was now starting to notice more, I wanted to punch her in the stomach for getting herself into the pregnant state, but deep down I knew when that baby was born it would be my little minion, I could train it to be my slave and to do whatever I told it to. So I refrained myself from attacking her.
“You’re foster person has come to see you.” She spat, taking my wrist tightly in her hand. I could see the spite in her eyes, the anger that someone was taking an interest in me and not in her.
“Rob?! Rob‘s here?!” I exclaimed as she dragged me into the lounge “Did he bring-” I stopped my sentence as the answer became obvious. There sat Rob looking extremely uncomfortable on the ridiculously large sofa, and next to him sat Rebecca. Would it make sense if I said that looking at that ugly girl sitting on the ludicrously expensive sofa made me feel like I was falling into a black bottomless pit? Probably not, but I just felt like throwing myself to the floor, kicking and screaming until my face went purple, just because Chris wasn’t there. However, I kept my composure and smiled sweetly at them both.
“Jamiy, hi! How have you been? You’re Mom was just telling us the good news!” Rob stood and came towards me, pulling me into a very awkward hug.
“What good news would that be?” I looked up at him, genuinely happy that him standing so close had blocked out the view of Becca.
“That you will be a big brother soon.” Rob looked at my face, he knew that I was unhappy about the situation.
“Oh yeah, I will be such a good brother, I can teach the little runt to smoke, swear and God knows what else!” I grinned. Rob flashed me a secret smile.
“Jamiy! I swear, if you dare say another thing like that I will smack you so hard you won’t see the light of day again!” Mom screamed, pulling herself up off the sofa in a hurry. Rob was startled.
“That’s why she got arrested before Rob, she went a little crazy like that.” I pointed at her, keeping myself as close to Rob as possible.
“Jamiy,” Nicholas sighed, rubbing his hand across his fat wrinkle lumps “Please, don’t talk like that about you’re Mother.”
“Why are you here Rob?” I chose to ignore Nicholas, he could sit and fiddle with his wrinkles forever for all I cared.
“Well, I called you’re Mom earlier, to see if you wanted to come over for dinner, she said you could if you wanted to?” Rob patted my back slightly.
“He isn’t going anywhere now,” She sat back down, her hand gently resting on her bump “He can only expect to sit in his room for the rest of the evening tonight, after he spoke to me like that, I don’t know where you learnt manners like that.” She looked at me, she looking genuinely hurt.
“That’s ok, I have my play station in my room.”
“Oh for goodness sake!” she spat “Just go round his for dinner!” She flapped her hands in the air, doing the universal sign for ‘I give up’.
“Aww thanks Mom, you’re the best!” I looked to Rob who smiled back at me. Rebecca sat with pursed lips on the sofa still.
Chris was in the kitchen cooking spaghetti bolognaise when we got in the front door. I practically ran to him, making sure Rob and Becca couldn’t see, I wrapped my arms around his waist, nestling my face into his back. His shirt smelt of green tea, I felt warm inside, like I was home.
“Spaghetti is you’re favourite right?” He turned around, pulling me into his arms.
“I missed you…” I felt like crying, just falling to my knees and sobbing because I was so happy to see him again.
“I missed you too…I have a lot to talk to you about…later though. Go help Becca set up the dinner table ok?” I nodded at him happily, it was good to be back where I felt I belonged.
