Setting the Scene

All right, so what do you get when you put an adolescent and a bunch of shiny guns together?

You pretty much get a spy. A teenage spy.

The Academy of Accomplished Gentlemen and Women (also known more casually as Shades- as in, the School of Shades) is for the good, the bad, and pretty much, the rich. Established in the 1800s and grew popular around the time of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin (who was one of the more secretive patrons), Shades housed many of America's famous spies (no, they weren't proud of Benedict Arnold's 'accomplishments') as well as scientists, government officials, and occasionally, conservationists.

They've got a handful of exceptionally brilliant adolescents, despite race and class. What do you do with those?

Oh, yes. You hand 'em over to Shades.

[[Summary: Basically, your 'character' which should be a student will be active in Shades, and complete a mission at the end of the school year.]]

Name: Serenity Rosewell (nicknamed Siri)

Age: 16

Personality: Clever and innocent, a nerdy loner. Prefers the solace of silence rather then friends. Brilliant with strategies and dealing with people.

Class: Middle

Ethnicity: (supposedly) Irish/Canadian

Appearance: Dark red medium curly hair, medium skin, very wiry-looking. Wears glasses over dark gray eyes.

Background: Adopted at age 6, traveled in Europe for most of life since then. Homeschooled. Knows quite a lot of martial arts.

Other: Siri revels in games of strategy, riddles and manipulation. At the orphanage, she was notorious for tricking bullies out of her way and twisting the adults around her finger. Add that to a natural talent of words and martial arts since she was six, and you have a hellacious warrior named Siri.

Name: Mohon Baker

Age: 15 (almost 16)

Personality: Mohon is always a little on edge in public situations but if its just you and him in a room alone (no insinuating anything) then he’s relaxed and at ease.

Class: Poor

Ethnicity: East Indian/Britiish

Appearance: His East Indian geans are predominant. He has dark brown hair and vibrant green eyes that are the only side of his British heritage.

Background: His family was very poor as a child and he was given a scholarship to the School of Shades when he was caught sneeking into a very well secured Government office. They gave him this one chance to get his life turned around. Of course, if the cops really knew what he was doing now, the wouldn’t have handed him over to the school so willingly.

Other: He's an expert at getting in and out of a building but not as good at gathering information from high tech equipment.

Tori put her eye to the scope and aimed. She made sure the gun was tuned to the proper distance, before lining the "X" up weith the center of the "head" of her target.

She pulled the trigger and a small, short, hiss, followed instantaneously by the soft kick of her rifle, ripple through the silent air. A small burst of plastic exploded from the back of the yellow practice dummy's head.

Tori growled as she looked through her scope and saw she had missed the small red circle in the center of the dummy's forehead. It was just a centimeter, but Tori knew she should have hit it.

It's late and I'm tired. That's all. She told herself. She looked at her watch and she was right. It was 11:02 and she had a sniper test the next morning. She quickly disassembled her rifle within a span of twenty-five seconds, placing each piece in its correct spot inside of the sleek black case.

Tori closed the case and dashed off of the roof and down the stairs. She entered a room with walls covered in gray squares and keypads. Her fingers moved swiftly across the keypad and she immediately put her eye up to the pad. A small red laser scanned her iris before the gray door opened and allowed her to place her rifle in next to her pistols and other weapons.

Tori exited the armory and headed out across the campus to her dorm room. Her roommate never really cared what time she returned, as long as she did it quietly. That wasn't a problem for Tori, she could sneak into Fort Knox wearing a bright yellow jumpsuit and never get caught.

She entered the unlock code of her dorm room and slid through the door. She found that her roommate, Serenity, was still awake. She was solving a particularly difficult strategy game.

"You're up late." Tori said as she walke over to her bed.

Siri glanced up, eyes flashing behind thick glasses.

"Look who's talking!" she drawled, scribbling something. "This was way easy, the Professor's going easy on us this semester. And, dear Tori, try not to elephant your way into the room next time."

Tori spluttered indignantly.

"I was NOT!"

Then she saw that Siri was laughing.

"Jeez, Tori, lighten up, ne?" she rolled off her bed neatly and stretched.

Tori sighed and tossed one of the pillows on her bed at Siri, who caught it with two fingers.

"Did you get that freakin' assignment done on 'Enemy Gate'?" asked Tori, slipping behind a changing screen and tossing her jacket up on the edge.

"Mmm," answered Siri, slipping into one yoga position after another. "Ridiculous. They talk about diversions."

Tori emerged from behind it and joined Siri in the moves - standard relaxation exercises required by the school.

"Seren, your problem is that you're so sarcastic," remarked Tori as they slipped into a Sphinx-like pose.

"The woooorld is my lemonade," quipped Siri, doing a final stretch and plopping down on her bed. "Be a dear and try not to snore."

"Only if you don't," muttered Tori in reply.

"Agreed. I have first dibs on the shower. Good night, good night, parting is a relief."

Name: Emiline Rivers
Age: 15
Personality: Emiline is generally overlooked by her peers. She is a very genuine girl--she is incredibly kindhearted and caring, and is generally a people pleaser. She is not one to take impulsive actions, but is more so a thinker. Emiline is very thoughtful, and incredibly intelligent--combined with her quietness, she was deemed "bookworm" at her old school, despite her athletic abilities, and always felt nerdy. She is recruited to Shades because of her incredible intelligence rates and physical performance--now all she needs to learn is how to think quickly and be bolder, but breaking out of the bookworm shell will take a lot of work.
Class (Rich? Poor? Middle): Poor
Ethnicity: White
Appearance: Emiline isn't strikingly pretty but she is nonetheless attractive. She has softly curled blonde hair, bright green eyes, a long nose and face, olive tan skin, and a lean body.
Background: She has a few close friends and a tight-knit family. She has learned her generosity from her parents, who have always been poor because of her large family.
Other: I think I explained it all...

Mali let out a large sigh of boredom as she lay in her bed. She had a small ball in her hand that she tossed up in the air and caught on the way down. Music played softly in the background, awkwardly disrupted by the sound of an instant message popping up on her computer. Ugh, Mali thought, that's all the way over there.... She decided it wasn't worth it but turned her head in that direction, wishing her magnifying glasses were near her.

All around her side of the room there were shortboards and seashells--Mali missed surfing more than anything about her home. She was bored here, nothing excited her about this place.

She rolled back onto her back and continued tossing the ball.

Tori had just finished her waffles and had a few more gulps of milk left when she heard the water cut off. She guzzled the last of her milk and went to her dresser. She pulled out a black tank top and a pair of jeans before grabbing her favorite brown tennis shoes. She grabbed her undergarments and waited for Siri to come out.

Siri emerged wearing a long navy skirt and a white shirt with purple designs on it. Tori entered the bathroom while Siri went to the kitchen for her breakfast. She didn't even bother with the hot water and removed her clothes before stepping into the cold waterfall.

She re-emerged, dried, dressed, and wrapped her hair in a towel before opening the door. Siri had just finished drying her hair and came into the bathroom and to her sink near the bathroom window. Tori quickly rubbed her face with face astringent and brushed her teeth. She finished just as Siri did and both girls grabbed their bags and headed out the door. Tori unwrapped her hair and draped the towel on her bedpost as she passed. She didn't even bother drying her hair, she preferred to let it dry naturally.

"I hate drying my hair 'artificially'," she remarked as they walked down the steps leading from the dormitory wing of the school.

"You try having naturally curly hair," suggested Siri, slinging her knapsack over her shoulder. "Have you ever tried waking up to curly hair that you didn't let dry the night before? It's the recipe for Millis-esque disaster."

Both girls laughed. Professor Millis, the English teacher, had insanely bad hair that he flatly refused to comb, but mercifully kept it short.

"I totally wish I had your hair," sighed Tori, eying Siri's dark auburn curls that so strangely contrasted her personality. "Curls are so much nicer then straight hair." she tugged a lock of her own dark hair.

"Haha, you wish. You shouldn't, curly is incredibly nasty..." Though Siri was at least three inches smaller then Tori, she looked a lot older. Maybe it was the way she held her figure or acted - but she looked a lot older then her sixteen years.

Tori groaned when she glanced at this semester's schedule again. "We've got Strategy and Tactics this morning...again."

"I know! Isn't it excellent?" asked Siri rhetorically.

"Tons." Sarcasm coated Tori's words thickly.

She and Siri took their seats at the front of the room. Tori almost instantly pulled out her notebook and began writing on her fantasy novel before Professor Millis could even begin to teach. She listened slightly, but Strategy and Tactics never made much sense to her.

Siri didn't seemed to intrigued by today's topic, but she still listened and answered every question the Profess pr threw out. Siri was his best and least favorite student. She always outsmarted him no matter how hard he tried to confuse her. He would give her an impossible scenario, but she would quickly find a secure way of getting out of it unscathed.

The computer screen flashed in Mike's emerald eyes. Waves of data flowed through his mind as he contemplated all the heavy possibilities coming from the binary code in front of him. His fingers flew accross the keyboard, keeping up with the computer as fast as it could spit out the code. His eyes looked up briefly as two people came in. They brushed past him, ignoring his presence. He shrugged his shoulders subconciously, and continued on his computer.

"Move the circuit here... build the status here..." He mumbled to himself. He brushed the hair away from his eyes and tucked it behind his ears, his international sign of deep concentration.

"Mr. Griffion!" He looked up and realized that the teacher was standing over him, a stern look on his face. "We are starting class now. Would you put that up?"
