Philosophy of the Dark
Chapter 30
-The First Step
-On both accounts

“Jamie,” somebody called as she was exiting through the front doors.

She turned and saw one of the people who had been at the other table. It
was the nurse from the last time she had been at the hospital, Jamie was
surprised that she hadn't recognized her earlier.

“Uh...hi,” Jamie said cautiously.

“I just wanted to say...that, I'm sorry.” The nurse said.

“Oh, okay...” Jamie said, turning back around.

“And Jamie?” she continued, Jamie stopped walking, hoping the nurse
would just say something and let her leave. “I think your dad deserves
what he got...if that matters any.”

Jamie turned around to face the young woman, hours worth of humiliation,
anger and tears finally making their way out of her, “You know what. It
doesn't.”

The nurse opened her mouth wide as Jamie finally made her escape out
the door.

She walked to her car, holding in her remaining tears, she had shown the
world enough shame for one day.

She stopped in her tracks when her car came into view. There was
somebody leaning against it, holding a leather briefcase professionally in
front of her. It was Tammy.

“I thought I said that I didn't want your help,” Jamie said, stepping up to
the drivers side and unlocking the car.

“Want and need are two different things, Jamie. Your dying up there, just
like I said.” Tammy said, stepping into the car, followed by Jamie.

“I'll be fine.”

“You don't know that world. My world. You don't know a damn thing about
it.” Tammy said, piercing through Jamie with her clear blue eyes. “You're
the accused, you can't call witnesses to the stand, you can't present
evidence. You can't do a damn thing other than sit and watch yourself spiral
down, closer and closer to guilty.”

“Stop it,” Jamie said, starting the car.

“You know I'm telling the truth. Let me help you Jamie.”

“No.”

“You need me.”

“No I don't.”

“Trust me. I'm the only one who believes your story. The entire county was
watching you, all routing for you to fail. Prove them wrong Jamie. Let the
world know your story.”

Something clicked in Jamie, her goal. To tell the world. It would never be
accomplished if she didn't win the case.

She had to choose, tell the world and lose her pride, or keep her pride and
lose the world.

“Okay,” Jamie finally said, “I guess I want your help again.”

“You know that you have to help me out though.”

“I know.”

“And you're willing to do that?” Tammy asked.

“Yes. Where are we going?”

“How does IHOP sound?” Tammy asked with a smile.

Jamie repaid the smile, “sounds good to me.”

It's everything I feared. Everything anybody ever warned me of.

It was ruthless, scary, confusing, amazing, thrilling, shaking,
crazy.

I can't do this on my own, I've finally realized that. With the
help of Tammy my life is becoming clear. Tomorrow I have to go back,
and I'll be there with vendetta to spare.

The courts never seen anyone like me.

Add Tammy to the mix, and it's bound to be fun.

YET ANOTHER NOTE: Chapter order will be wierd for the next few chapters...like this...

(Then normal again! This is because of the court, all things that go on in court are in chapter 30, everything else is a normal chapter! Sorry if this confuses you!)

But that is not the question. Why we are here, that is the question. And we are blessed in this, that we happen to know the answer. Yes, in this immense confusion one thing alone is clear. We are waiting for Godot to come. -Beckett

Whoa, yes, enter Tammy! I just got done posting my reply to your question on the other thread and found this. Heh and was confused about the numbering until I read the explanation.... now I got it. Anyway, I like this one indeed. The plot is moving forward rapidly, and as always, you leave us waiting impatiently for the next part.

Eek, this is rather confusing. It was bad enough with you having two chapters numbered the same. Can't you make it a bit simpler?

Hope you put the next bit up soon!

Yeah, I know the chapters will get confusing, but the correct order will be posted in every section, just so you know where to go next. I'm gonna try to make it relatively painless, but seeing as it's online it's much more difficult than if it were in a manuscript. So yeah, like I said, sorry in advance.

I've finally caught up!! Yay!!

This is going fantastically well. Your writing is sooo hooking; well done.

To improve:
It
was the nurse from the last time she had been at the hospital, Jamie was
surprised that she hadn't recognized her earlier.

Instead of a comma, use a semi-colon. It should flow better then.

Add Tammy to the mix, and it's bound to be fun.

This seems slightly out of place....could just be me but it doesn't sound like something that Jamie would write in her book.....

Anyways, great stuff,

Yes, I'm reading wrong.

You should seriously consider using normal chapters, in you know...numerical order.
