She laid there, awake, yet her eyes still closed. Her raven black hair stained the pure white pillow that sat below her head, and the sheets were in a bustle at the foot of the bed. She could hear occasional footsteps and conversations pass in the hall outside her ward, but no one came in to visit her. She laid in the hospital bed and pondered. She thought for hours and decided that she needed a drink of water. A glass of water sat, conveniently placed on the table beside her bed. She tried to sit up, but the stiff bandages that covered her abdomen wouldn't allow her to. She laid back down, trying to recall what had happened.

The silence was soon broken by the creaking noise of the door. A dark figure, dressed in all black, stood, towering, in the doorway. She struggled to she the stranger's face, but she failed at her attempt.

"Matthew ", she muttered, "Is that you?"

The dark figure replied in a deep, but soft voice,"I saw you fight, Mahalia. You went down too easily, do you remember what happened?"

"I do remember being face to face with that little scum ball, Matilda." she answered angrily," And then, nothing. It just went all blank."

The silence returned, only this time longer and more awkward. Matthew sat down in the only chair in the room, and relaxed all his muscles. He sat there, limp, with nothing to say. The same for Mahalia. It seemed as though nothing could brake the trance they were in. They stared in each others eyes blandly, no expression dared to crawl on to their grimaced faces. And then, she smiled. A daring thing to do in those kind of situations, but he took her challenge and smiled back. They read each others mind as Mahalia got up, with a painful look on her face and she got dressed. Her outfit consisted of a black, long-sleeved shirt with slits at the shoulders, khaki cargo pants, black work boots, and black, leather gloves that exposed all of her fingers.

"Let's go", Matthew said with a mischievous grin on his face. He walked over to the window, and casually opened it, letting in the cold winter air into the stuffy hospital ward. His large muscles flexed as he picked Mahalia up, on to the window sill. Mahalia let her feet dangle over the edge of the window. The storm clouds that hovered in the sky did not bring any snow, thankfully. Matthew stepped back and rummaged through his backpack. He pulled out a thick rope. "Just in case", he said, as he grinned at the amazed look on her face.

"People never lie when they say the Matthew Scrapes is always prepared", Mahalia said, as if she had rehearsed it for years.

Ignoring Mahalia's comment, Matthew threw the rope out the window and carefully tied it to the window's bar the protruded from the side. He then slowly lowered himself down the side of the building, as Mahalia climbed after him.

As they slowly finished climbing, they reached trouble at the end of the rope. Down on the ground were security guards waiting for anyone to even try to sneak out. Mahalia and Matthew were standing across from the guards who had their backs facing them. They took a fighting stance and waited for something to start the fight that they knew ,would soon take place.

One accidental note that Mahalia made was that she knew she was still weak, soon did she realize that she had been holding her breathe the whole time that they were avoiding the guards. Just then Mahalia let out a large sigh that caught the attention of one guard in particular, the largest and strongest one of all. He was bald and wore all black, you could see his gigantic muscles even through his baggy, long-sleeve shirt. Mahalia knew she had made a huge mistake.

"Looks like we've got a few run aways on our hands," the guard said as he let out a evil laugh that made you tremble when hear it.

Matthew tightened his muscles and got ready to charge at them. They both remained silent except for the occasional snarl from one of the guards. Then, everyone leaped forward and grabbed each other. The guards struggled as Matthew's speed and muscles were combined to take each one down, and dodge the weak attacks. Mahalia dodged and thrashed as hard as she could using all the energy that she had to make sure they made it out of there. Due to her injuries, she didn't fight as well as she could have, though every guard that faced her was eventually taken down. Soon all the guards that were left fled, knowing that if their fellow guards, that were possibly stronger than them, were taken down, they had no chance of winning the fight.

Mahalia and Matthew smiled as they slowly made their way towards the nearby woods. Mahalia limped and Matthew put his arm around her to help her walk, but they were both panting from exhaustion. They finally made it to the woods, and they made camp. They ate until the darkness swept over the sky, and then they went to a long sleep.

"Matthew ",
"word[comma]"

"Let's go",
ditto

"People never lie when they say the Matthew Scrapes is always prepared",
ditto again =D

breathe

I think here you meant breath as opposed to breathe =D

Comments:

 You could use a lot more description. Wow, I feel weird saying that, normally it's the opposite. Now, I don't mean like, fry your readers brain and gouge out their eyes with the fiery pits of hell reserved for abusers and users kinda description, I mean like, what's going on. It all seemed increadibly rushed.
 It doesn't say why she was in the hospital, it just said something about a fight, bring in more of that, even if you're saving that part of the story for later.
 The 'Big fight scene' with the guards was increadibly rushed. I can sum up what should be breath-taking and heart speeding in one sentece. The guards heard her, they fought, they got away. I shouldn't be able to do that. Make the reader want Matthew and...Mahalia...to win, make them feel for them, make them feel like they're the ones trying to escape.

:? Another thing, and this is purely opinion nothing but that. The name. Mahalia, it's beautiful and all, but for a main character, well, the readers shouldn't have to spend a good fifteen seconds slowly pronouncing it just to figure it out. Once again, that's purely opinion.

:!: On a less critical note, I really liked your story, it caught my attention well, and KEPT it =D That made me happy. It made me want to read more, your writing is very good. So, PM me when you post the next section and I'll read it.

 :!: If you don't PM me I probably wont read it because I'm keeping track of so many people's stories I would have trouble remembering to look for it. =D, Sorry. Anyways, once again, I really liked it! Keep up the good work!

But that is not the question. Why we are here, that is the question. And we are blessed in this, that we happen to know the answer. Yes, in this immense confusion one thing alone is clear. We are waiting for Godot to come. -Beckett

First off, let me say that this was very good. I look forward to reading more. But I do have a few comments for you, so here it goes:

Her raven black hair stained the pure white pillow that sat below her head, and the sheets were in a bustle at the foot of the bed

I like how her hair "stained" her pillow; that's a good image. However, "bustle" refers to lots of activity. Are her sheets alive?

She laid in the hospital bed and pondered

This is vague. What is she pondering about? Instead of using this sentence, describe her thoughts. It will leave more impact on the reader.

A dark figure, dressed in all black, stood, towering, in the doorway

You don't need two verbs here. Just say "towered." Remember, one strong word is better than lots of weak words.

Down on the ground were security guards waiting for anyone to even try to sneak out

Why are the security guards waiting for people to escape? Is there something wrong with this hospital? If so, you should develop that more. I mean, people don't usually try to escape from getting healed.

Other than that, I agree that you should lengthen the fight scene. Also, you use the word "you" a few times. That's in second person. Stick to third.

Good luck, and great story!
