I mostly write fantasy and sci-fi stories and I also dabble in poetry.

I only recently registered as well, but so far the place looks awesome!
Also, like Shafter said, it seems that fantasy is a very popular subject here. So you should be able to get a lot of help and/or opinions when you start posting your work.

Do you read Holly Lisle?
I have not read any of her novels, but I did read "Mugging the Muse," her book about writing. It is pretty awesome, and what I read in there is helping me out quite a bit.
