A Drinker of Coffee

So I've been around for a while, reading the post, and enjoying it, because I can't find works by people my age in the lib. which stinks, of course, but you live, you learn. I just recently came over my shyness, and decided if I wanted to be a writer, I needed to have the balls to put my stuff out there, and get feed back from people my age. So here I am.

Writing isn't something I throw at people, where I'm living right now, they don't want to know what a 16 year-old girl has to say, thus how I love the internet. I have my close friends, but there not readers. So there you have it.

Writing became addictive to me, at a very young age. I wrote my first novel at the age of ten, though it will never see the light of day. I don't think I could go without writing, I'm always carrying around a notebook and pen. Event to my voice lesson, which my teacher hates.

School is fine, school is great, school is school, and it feels like prison. I wish I could be one of those kids that rebel, and do what they want then they want it, but hey... That's why my friends started referring to me as the Pirate, I do my work behind the scenes. (Don't ask)

I think that's about it, from my end of the spectrum.

It's a pity the people that live around you don't want to hear what you've got to say. The island I grew up on was very liberated and supported the youth's words very much.

And I always carry around a notebook and a pen too, a black one cause I don't like writing in blue. Some of my best pieces come when they're least expected.

School is school. Coming from a personal experience, don't rebel, it's not worth it.

Speaking of pirates I had to wear an eyepatch and that included at school, doctor's orders. Well, I have never been teased so much in my life. Needless to say, I didn't wear that patch too much longer.
[My left eye is completely out of focus, and it will never be able to focus ever. Plus it is also lazy, severely, but I am training it to stop being so bad.]

Oh, and when someone says (Don't ask), of course now you've brought the curiousity out. "I do my work behind the scenes." What does it mean?

Plus, I loved your ending line, I've never heard that before.

I'm in the heart of the Bible Belt, and I most write Fantasy. Of course, as soon as you tell some one that they run far, far away, as quickly as possible, because even if your just an innocent bystander, it's just not what is considered to be the normal, you know what I'm saying. It's why me and my group of friends are considered, more or less, at the bottom of the food chain. Not that I mind any. But I don't suffer from my life as a geek, I enjoy ever minute of it.

It seems there is much about you that I would say about myself. Not about rebelling, though. I'm no rebel. Just a writer.

Do you create your own worlds, when writing fantasy? Do you give them different languages to speak? Do you invent creatures? Do you pride yourself on being original, or do you model after other authors? Do you go for light or dark fantasy? What is your favorite/least favorite piece you've written?

Ah, another bible belt-er, except for me it feels like I'm trapped here. Trust me, writing is considered a rebelling around here. Just ask my school lit. Mag, where I bash the way that we are conformed around here, under a pen name of course.

Yes, I create my own world, when writing fantasy, and languages. If you get curious you can check out the preface and first chapter of my book, that I have started posting in the Fant. Fict. Forum, but the title of MYSTERIOUS FLOWER.

I pride myself on being original, but don't we all. I think that when writing we get so caught up in the story that sometimes we tend to copy other writers without meaning too, but I have combed though my works, looking for that, and I hope I have avoided it. So, yes, I do pride myself on being original. (Though to tell you the truth, I would love to be the next Anne McCaffrey, but wouldn't we all....)

I don't really know about the light or dark fantasy, when reading and writing, I really can go for both. I don't sit down and and say, 'Oh, well I'm going to write dark fantasy today..." You know? I just sit down and write. I hope that I write sort of medium, a kind of light flow but with just enough dark to keep the pressure on the reader.

My favorite piece....hmmm.... Probably the one I'm working on now, with the working title of: CYAN FAYE. It's not fantasy. It's a modern novel about teens, getting pulled into Secret Societies, that are ages old, tied back into the French Revolution.

On that note, my least favorite piece.... That will never see the light of day, would probably be a work entitled ANGLE WINGS, which is a fantasy, that I wrote in a few weeks, it just jumbled, and messy, and will never see the light of day.

What/where is Bible belt?

Do you not live in the US either? I didn't know, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. It appears to contain the majority of the Southern states, and is (wikipedia quote coming on) "a typically informal term for an area in which socially conservative Christian Evangelical Protestantism is a dominant or pervasive part of the culture."

It's used most predominantly in the US, although other countries do have them. Apparently, East Anglia and Central London in England are sometimes considered them, as well as parts of Scotland.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I really get what you mean. I have my close friends, and none of them write. If I were to tell them that I write, I would probably get taken the piss out of for years. Which really asks the question "how good friends are they?" I don't like to show what I write to my friends in any case, and so this site is sort of like a haven.

I look forward to checking out some of your stuff. I already have a mass of stuff to critique anyway (I'm a bit behind on critiques at the moment) which I have printed off and will read in my spare time. I will get round to yours as soon as I can.

Kaz, is right, that is the technical definition. Really it's a strand of tows/cities through out all of the South that are literally 'O God', which isn't a bad thing because I'm a very religious person, I go to church every Sunday ect..., but it's ALL THE TIME, and they try to push it on you. Anything that is in the least anti-Christ, is FORBIDDEN! Such as writing fant, where you dealing with a Mother Goddess.

My friends know I write, they're just not readers. They hate to read, which I don't understand, but that's them.

There really is no way to fully explain and for someone to grasp the extent in which the Bible Belt strangles people like me. It's just a place and a society, that if your born into it then your golden. I was born outside the Bible Belt, and moved here years ago.

Ah, got it, everyone here is very not republican, but that way of thinking times about 100, if yo can understand that. I don't know if you have republicans and diocrates where you are...

Well, I tried to explain it, maybe I'll come up with something better later.

It does sound restrictive - the Bible Belt, I mean, the way you put it.

It's funny, quite a few people on here have said that this seems to be only place where they can write and get views on their works because their friends/parents don't encourage their writing. Now me, I don't have any problems! Except maybe writing too much... My elder brother has written stuff as well, one of my little brothers wants to write, and I've found my parents to be really supportive. As to my friends, they live up in Scotland, so as I live in the South-East of England, there's no bother with showing them my work. They're not into reading, anyway. The only books they like are political/law/non-fiction/biographies of political figures. *shudders* Eww. Still, they're good friends, even if they don't read books!

I'm glad you have friends who support you writing. And it's not that theyd don't support me, they do, they're just not intrested.

As for family, my mom and dad, and brother don't really read anything. My sister will when she's home, and when I want help editing somthing, I have to send it to my Aunt in Colorado.

I've always wanted to vist Brit. Isles, I'm Stoc-Irish all the way down the blood line, with a tiny bit of English in there. One day...When I have the money...

You should, 'tis a great place! Has become very liberal lately. And with all the different religions around here, and the obsession the government has with political correctness, we don't really have any room for bible-belt type places. In fact, we can be a bit too PC sometimes. The government was considering changing Christmas to "Winter Holidays," so we don't offend all the non-Christians. *Shudders* Oh, and as to your Republicans and Democrats, we don't have those, but our political equivalents are Conservative and Labour, respectively. This is turning into a rather cultural and political discussion. How intriguing...?

Yes, well needless to say, before I go anywhere I have to have the money. Can you say: SUMMER JOB???
