Chapter 8
Ihsanak Anso
Sendoma woke up with a disgusting taste in his mouth. He went to look out the window and noticed there was no window. He had no idea what time it was, but he felt wide awake so he went out into the hallway and continued to the main hall without his sword.
When he reached the main hall, he saw his father standing there. Grishtog turned and said, “Ah, Sendoma, ready to begin your training?”
“Yea just I need to get this disgusting taste out of my mouth,” replied Sendoma.
“So what kind of drink do you want?” asked Grishtog.
“I like apple juice,” replied Sendoma.
“Apple juice,” said Grishtog and a clear glass with apple juice appeared in his hand. “Here you go, son,” said Grishtog handing Sendoma the glass.
Sendoma downed three fourths of the glass and asked, “So what type of training are we going to do?”
“Well it appears you are well trained in magical arts and physical arts. However, you are not trained in the magical arts of the gods,” replied Grishtog with smile.
“What’s the difference between magical arts and the magical arts of the gods?” asked Sendoma downing the rest of his drink.
“When you use magical arts you tap into the planets energy therefore making natural things like fire, water, or air move. When you use the magical arts of the gods you tap into a power that has no origin,” replied Grishtog.
“So you think I can tap into this power with no origin?” asked Sendoma.
“You can tap into it with a certain degree. It has a tribute you must give when you tap into it. It takes your energy and if you tap into to much it will take your life,” replied Grishtog.
“So when do we start?” asked Sendoma as he set the glass next to the wall. Like the plate, the glass disappeared.
“How about now, Ihsanak Anso,” said Grishtog as he “teleported” behind Sendoma.
“Okay, was that teleportation?” asked Sendoma.
“No, I stopped time and moved behind you. I think this is one of the spells you inherited,” said Grishtog.
“Ihsanak Anso,” said Sendoma but nothing happened.
“You need to put emotion into it,” said Grishtog urging Sendoma to try it again.
Sendoma thought of a way to put emotion into it and thought of when he first saw his father. Of the anger he felt.
“Ihsanak Anso,” yelled Sendoma with anger. The motions of his father began to seem slow and laggard. His father then seemed to stand still. He then moved behind him and then he thought of how to stop it.
“Ihsanak Anso,” he said again and his father seemed to move again. “So how’d I do?”
“Good,” said Grishtog laughing as he turned around. “Now try it again.”
Sendoma thought again of the anger and said, “Ihsanak Anso.” However, this time nothing happened.
“Not so easy is it,” said Valentine as he entered with a chuckle.
“How about you try it?” asked Sendoma challengingly.
“That would be pointless because it is your family’s power,” said Valentine.
“Oh really? Ihsanak Anso” said Sendoma, but again nothing happened.
“Try using the emotion you feel this instance,” suggested Grishtog.
“Ihsanak Anso,” said Sendoma and this time it worked. He went to move behind his father but it stopped working as soon as he was right next to his father. “Damn it,” he said with frustration.
“Why are you frustrated? When I was first learning it, I didn’t even get until at least my tenth time not to mention it just worked,” said Grishtog trying to encourage Sendoma.
“It stopped working before I wanted it to stop,” said Sendoma turning to his father.
“It could be that you’re running out of energy to supply. Are you feeling tired?” asked Grishtog.
“Not really. More hungry then tired,” replied Sendoma.
“Oops, I forgot about your breakfast. What do you want?”
“I really like crab meat and some strawberries,” replied Sendoma thinking about both.
“Crab meat cooked and strawberries,” said Grishtog and a plate with crab meat and a bowl with strawberries appeared in his hands. He gave them to Sendoma and said, “Eat up. We will need to wait for this to digest before we try again. The spell gave out because you were out of energy.”
“Okay so what do we do for a while?” asked Sendoma while he ate a strawberry.
“I was going to explore Pire Island. Do you want to come?” asked Grishtog
“Yea just let me finish,” replied Sendoma pretty much shoving the food in his mouth now. He finished and asked, “So how do we get there?”
“Same way you came here with Valentine,” replied Grishtog. Sendoma stood right next to his father. His father closed his eyes and soon after the light appeared. Then it faded and they were standing on a hill overlooking a small town with a palisade wall built around the perimeter.
“So where are we?” asked Sendoma, not recognizing anything that he saw.
“We are on the northwestern tip of Pire Island,” replied Grishtog as he started walking down the hill toward the town.
“So what’s the name of this town?” asked Sendoma following Grishtog.
“Its name’s Kadora, I think,” replied Grishtog.
“So why did you choose this town?”
“I have never been to this town before.”
A few minutes passed where they didn’t say anything. They reached the gate and the guard positioned there stopped them. He said, “Business in Kadora?”
“We are trinket collectors and I heard that there were unique trinkets here,” said Grishtog.
“Identify yourselves,” he ordered.
“I am umm…Thelos and this is my son Therios,” said Grishtog with a smile.
“Please continue,” he said as he moved out of their way.
Sendoma and Grishtog went through the gate and started walking to the market down the street.
“Why did you give him fake names?” asked Sendoma with a smile on his face.
“The guards of small towns aren’t very smart. They would probably allow an entire opposing army in if they said they were on their side,” replied Grishtog with a smile on his face as well. “Let’s split up and explore on our own and meet on the hill at midday.”
“Sounds good to me.” Grishtog took a left before the market, and Sendoma went into the market. He went to a table that had many trinkets on it. There were al sorts of trinkets on the table, but one caught his eye.
It was a necklace that had two horse heads going in opposite directions. The horse heads originated from a ring of stones including sapphire, ruby, amethyst, emerald, and topaz. The horse heads were also aimed down to the ground.
“May I help you?” asked the store owner to Sendoma after he finished with the customer that came before Sendoma.
“Yea, how much does this necklace cost?” asked Sendoma pointing to the necklace he was looking at.
“That one is…a hundred and thirty gold pieces,” replied the store owner.
“Mmm…not bad,” said Sendoma as he was looking through his pockets. He forgot that he had left his money at his house on the cliff. “Umm… I forgot my money so do you have any jobs I could do?”
“Mmm…yea I need you to deliver these to the people that ordered them. The people will hand you the money for them,” said the storeowner as he handed Sendoma a bag and a piece of paper.
“Umm…do you have a map? I’m new in town.”
“I don’t have map, but if you go to the guard at the gate, he knows where you can get one.”
Sendoma left the merchants table and put the paper in his pocket. He went to the guard and asked, “Do you know where I could get a map of this place?” The guard pointed to pile of papers on the ground. Sendoma grabbed one of them and looked at it. It was a hand drawn map of Kadora. “Can I take this?”
The guard nodded and Sendoma took out the list of addresses. He looked at the first address and found the road on the map. He went to that address and gave the resident the trinket that the paper said they ordered. He did that for every address and collected the money. He went back to the merchants table and pulled out the bag full of money.
“Well that was pretty quick. Good job. Here is the necklace and your cut. Pleasure doing business,” said the store owner as he gave Sendoma the necklace and fifty gold pieces.
“Pleasure,” responded Sendoma putting the gold in his pocket and keeping the necklace in his hand. He left the city and went to the top of the hill even though he had no idea what time of the day it was. When he was on the top of the hill, he lay down and looked at the necklace some more.
“That necklace is so beautiful,” said a feminine voice behind Sendoma.
Sendoma looked behind him and saw the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. She was about his height, but a little shorter. She had dark brown, long hair with brown eyes. She had a bow and quiver strapped to her back.
“It just caught my eye. The name’s Sendoma. What’s you name?” said Sendoma as he stood up.
“The name’s Tierna. Nice to meet you Sendoma. So where did you get that necklace?” asked Tierna with a smile.
“I got it from one of the merchants in the market,” replied Sendoma.
“Would you give it to me? I’ll pay what it cost.”
“You don’t need to pay for it. I pretty got it for free anyway. So here you go,” said Sendoma as he put the necklace around her neck.
“Thanks. Have you eaten yet? I was just going home for lunch,” asked Tierna as she felt the necklace.
“Sure, but I can’t be long. I am meeting someone here at midday,” replied Sendoma with a smile.
“Okay, follow me,” said Tierna excitedly. After they entered the city she asked, “So do you live in Kadora or are you just visiting?”
“I’m just visiting. I’m from Valeria,” replied Sendoma regretting the last part.
“That’s a long way from here. I heard something bad happened to Valeria.”
“Yea it was attacked and the populace slaughtered. I however lived on a cliff overlooking the city and was able to escape.”
“My god, that’s horrible. Any idea who attacked it?”
“Yea they call themselves the Ankishi, and they are tough.”
“You fought them?”
“Yea and I nearly lost my life.”
“I don’t see any bleeding or signs of battle.”
“There was a healer in my party.”
“Well there it is,” she said as she pointed to a decent house that was made of dark wood. He followed her into her house. She entered and put her bow and quiver of arrows on a hook on the wall. She then yelled, “I’m home and I brought home a visitor.”
“Lunch will take a few more minutes. So let me see this new visitor,” replied a feminine voice down the hall. Sendoma followed Tierna into the kitchen.
“His name’s Sendoma,” said Tierna as her mom looked around.
“Well doesn’t he look cute,” said her mom while she went back to cooking the stew in the pot. Both Tierna and Sendoma started to blush a little bit. “Stews done.” She grabbed a heat mitten and took the pot off the fire. She placed the pot on the stone countertop and got three wooden bowls and spoons. She set them on the table and poured some stew into the bowls.
Tierna and Sendoma sat down at the table and grabbed their spoons. They started eating. Sendoma then said, “What is this stew, I’ve never had it and it tastes very good.”
“It’s called pea stew. Peas are cooked right into the water and they dissolve,” replied Tierna’s mom.
They spoke small talk through lunch and spoke for a while after they finished. Tierna then said, “Sendoma, its about midday. You should go.”
“You’re right. Enjoy the necklace. Hope to see you soon,” said Sendoma as he stood up.
“Stop by next time you’re here okay,” said Tierna’s mom.
“I will,” said Sendoma as he opened the front door and left Tierna’s house. He left the town, went to the top of the hill, and laid down waiting for Grishtog.
