Chapter 4
The Dream
Rone woke up and noticed two things. First, his body was very sore, but he couldn’t feel any injuries on his shoulder or ankle like he remembered. Second, he was in another building that was made out of wood but had no furniture and not in the library. The last thing he remembered doing was finding out most of the translations of the scrolls at the front table. He thought he had a dream of fighting two Ankishi and losing until he was saved by a beautiful priestess, but now he’s not sure what happened because he has no idea how he ended up in this building.
“Good to see your up,” said Sisilia leaning against the wall in the corner.
“How long have I been out?” asked Rone slowly sitting up.
“Couple hours. Hey Rone’s up,” yelled Sisilia so the others could hear her. Wyvern came, then Alexandria , and then Sendoma came into the room. Rone thought that his dream was just a dream until Danara also came into the room.
“So Rone how’d you get so lucky?” asked Sendoma. After a while Rone hadn’t responded so Sendoma looked up. Sendoma saw Rone starring at Danara. He then looked around and everyone was looking at Rone. Sendoma whistled at Rone to get his attention, but Rone was still in his trance starring at where Danara had been. So Sendoma walked over to Rone, placed his hands on Rone’s shoulders, and said, “Something catch your eyes?”
“Uhhh….no I’m still tired from the fight,” said Rone knowing that they all probably figured out that he was starring at Danara.
“Well anyway we have to get out of here,” said Danara hoping that everyone was still concentrating on Rone to not notice her slightly red cheeks.
“Why?” asked Rone confused.
“All of us were attacked as well which probably means they’re watching us closely. So we need to get to a populated area. There they can’t attack us that easily,” said Sisilia
“Well we’ll need some food because the closest town is a four days walk from here,” said Rone agreeing with the team about leaving.
“I already got food and water,” said Sendoma pointing to a stash of military rations and water gourds in the corner of the room.
“Then we should start heading off,” said Rone.
“Not now it’s dark out and they could ambush,” said Danara still blushing slightly.
“And your still tired from the fight, remember,” said Sendoma with an evil smile on his face.
That night they took shifts, but most couldn’t sleep. Since it is the first time they’ve really had to rest. All but Sendoma were thinking of the families and friends that were killed in the attack. Sendoma didn’t have anyone he cared for in Valeria at the time and fell right to sleep. Sisilia had been close with her two brothers and parents and started crying after a while. Wyvern went to her and hugged her with tears running down his eyes. Rone remembered his sister’s mangled corpse and started to cry about that again. Even though Danara hadn’t been in Valeria for long and had no family there she was crying because she thought of the other priestesses as her sisters. After Danara noticed Rone was crying she walked to him and sat next to him. Alexandria stayed up all night but didn’t think about friends or family lost in the attack. She was thinking of the chaos council and their offering.
While Sendoma was sleeping, he had a dream. He was alone in the woods looking up in the sky watching lightning strike. Then he heard a voice. He stood up and looked around but saw no one. Then a blue jay landed on his shoulder. He looked at the blue jay and heard the voice, but it seemed not to be originating from the blue jay.
“You are the Chosen that will banish evil that is rising, but first you will need the Sword and the Book that is hidden in the basement of the Valerian palace,” said the voice.
Right after the voice finished speaking Sendoma woke up. He
stood up and walked out to the main room. All were asleep except Alexandria.
“Alexandria I just remembered something. I’m heading out. I should be back before you guys leave but if I’m not go ahead and leave and I’ll meet you at Seiki,” said Sendoma right next to the door.
“Okay, I’ll tell the others when they get up,” replied Alexandria still in deep thought.
Sendoma walked for a while deep in thought. He was already in the flattened ground of the palace before he realized where he was. All that was left in tact of the palace was the area around the main hall. He walked into the main hall and looked around. He saw a room with stairs heading underground. He walked over to it and looked down. It was so dark he could only see a few feet down the stairs. He looked around, grabbed a torch that was on the floor, and lit it on fire using a fire spell.
He walked down the stair case but it seemed like a life time before he finally reached the bottom where there was a chamber. Inside the chamber there was a sword mounted on a stone table. Light was shining from the ceiling of the chamber but there were no holes or anything that the light originated from.
He walked up to the table and looked at the sword. The sword was a katana with the bottom of the hilt was a snake’s head. The snake’s head shined a bright silver. So bright in fact that it nearly blinded Sendoma when he first looked at it. The hilt’s diamond pattern was white and the hilt’s color was black. The blade’s silver was almost as bright as the snake’s head except Sendoma could see sparkles of gold.
Then Sendoma picked up the sword. The light from the ceiling disappeared and the torch blew out. Then Sendoma felt his hand burning and dropped the sword. He lit the torch back up and looked at his hand. He saw an indented scar like this:
(drawing will be here as soon as i found how to do it)
He touched the scar and it burned like before. He picked up the sword and walked back to the stairs. After he reached the top of the stairs he looked to the east to see the sun just peaking over the horizon.
Sendoma started to head to the old house but stopped at a weapons shop. He went in and saw weapons thrown around everywhere and the dead shop owner’s burnt corpse behind the counter. Sendoma looked around and picked up some string. He strapped the string to the scabbard of the sword he found in the palace. He then strapped the sword to his back and continued to the old house. He went into the house when he got there and saw that they had already left. He walked outside, looked up at the sky, and sighed. He started walking off in the direction of Seiki.
