[s]The Gray Reign.
The sky is a shadowed gray mass,
Shifting quickly and quietly with the wind,
And blocking all the warmth of God’s sunlight.
It brings forth only the cold November rain,
And the imminent sounds of war.
The earth is no longer fruitful,
Its once great cities lay still as toppled ruins,
Wastelands of jagged iron and steel, weathered and collapsed rock.
Where there was once stood a noble house of the lord,
There is now a place of war.
The oceans are dark, their waters black,
And their waves are filled with cold vessels.
The surf brings ashore infantrymen,
And the tide births war machines.
Even the spirits of the men have dimmed,
Souls weary with the images of war,
And emptied from a longing for home,
Their bodies tired of the perils and onslaught,
Fortitude wears thin,
Constitution dwindles,
And the sky continues to reign gray.

I rewrote it a long time ago and moved on. This is what i changed it to:
the sky gathered overhead
i saw lightning in the distance
the shadowed gray mass
rained harder every minute
and quickly shifted
it blocked all warmth
and brought forth
no divine light
as i heard
the sounds of war
the earth, was barren
great cities laid still
in toppled ruins
they were wastelands
of steel, the church
wrought with turmoil
men, what few were left
had grown tired
peril and onslaught
they corrode
fortitude wore thin,
constitution dwindled,
And the sky reigned gray
forevereveryday.
(never could fix the end of the second stanza. its crap)
